Posey

Rate this book
Posey Campbell couldn’t understand why her love life, or lack thereof, was of such interest to her family and friends. Having endured one ill-fated relationship, she resigned herself to living out her days as New Hope’s spinster schoolteacher . . . until an unkempt U.S. marshal with inviting gray eyes and a kiss me smile comes to town spinning her well-ordered life off-kilter. Glad for a temporary assignment keeping him in one place, Grayson Barrett never expected to find love, let alone a wife, a set of orphans, and a life he’d feared had passed him by. When a secret from Posey’s past comes to light will Gray’s steadfast love be enough to convince her he is the right man? Or will an old nemesis put an end to their love before it begins?

This is a well written, traditional, historical romance. I struggled to stay engaged for the first half, possibly personal problem with reading too many historical fiction books in a row. The opening scene is so... vulgar, is the only way I can think to put it. It was a little off-putting and thankfully didn't last long. It was one of the most vulgar scenes in the book and there were not very many of them. I really enjoyed the involvement of the twins and the connecting background stories. I was so annoyed when we were told the short timeline for Gray to persuade Posey to his side after his adoption of the girls. It's so typical to try and force a ton into a short time frame, so when the date passes and the book isn't over yet, I was thrilled! It was such a relief for it all to not magically happen in this ridiculous time frame. The discovery at the end, that her ex-husband was wrong all along was just the icing on top, he absolutely had it coming to him. I wouldn't say the book knocked me out of the park, it was consistent with the genre, but for me it was a pleasant middle of the road read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was one of those books that had to be read in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. Jo-Ann Roberts is definitely going places. I loved her descriptions of Posey's town. Her romance was beautiful. I loved how children played a major role. Many writers make the mistake of having their children be cliche or unrealistic, but Roberts does a great job of portraying real children. They absolutely captured my heart. I love how Posey was older than many romance heroines. I also love that marshall was not afraid to show and express his emotions. All in all, I loved this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

A wonderful western.
This was such a good book the first scene with the Marshal and Reed really set the stage for a true western. Bringing baseball into the piece was brilliant. The characters were great and I was completely captivated by the piece. Jo-Ann Roberts is a very talented writer and I am looking forward to reading more by her. High praise for this gem and I highly recommend the book. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Second chance at love.

This is a sweet story of love and restoration. Posey carries a secret that makes her believe she is broken and unlovable. When the new marshall arrives in town, he is immediately taken with the beautiful teacher. She tries to keep him at arms length, but he gradually breaks down her walls. This story is full of love, romance, fun, and danger. Although it is a little predictable, it is a good story.

A Posey for the Marshal

So, so happy to read this sequel to the first Brides of New Hope! It's not often a series keeps it's quality of characters and plot, but this one does. Looking forward to book three.

Posey (Brides of New Hope Book 2)

Just as entertaining and hard to put down as the first book, Lessie! I am so happy to have found this new author. Her words flow along in telling the story, without any of the gaps that interrupt the mood. I enjoyed Posey, sweet but strong and was a good match for our hero, Grayson who I loved. Their back stories filled my heart with sadness, so believable, which had me rooting for them. I enjoyed following them through all the ups and downs, from the beginning to the ending of their love story. JudyE
