From the collaboration coalface

John Dengate

I was working with a client recently where the intended collaboration on a long term contract was not working effectively, with relationships and key project outcomes both deteriorating. The teams were discussing the implications of a report that outlined some of the findings, and the issue of trust came up. One person reported what happened for them when they faced a couple of questions that emerged from the report: Do they trust me? Do I trust them?

The team member said "I struggled to answer both questions and don't really know why". While this realisation did not 'fix' anything, they were relieved that at least the issue was on the table, providing a platform for further work together on the relationship. A first important step in the journey....

At least the boss is honest…
