A JST special conversation with Robert Moore
'Inside the insurrection: journalism as a first draft of history'
We are delighted that Robert Moore, ITV’s Correspondent in Washington DC, has agreed to give a masterclass for the Trust. Robert was in the Capitol building as it was stormed by Trump supporters on 6 January 2021 and filed gripping reports as the mob attacked. In this exclusive masterclass Robert joins the JST from Washington to describe how he reported on the violent scenes which shocked the world.

Our 2021 online mentoring scheme for sixth formers is well underway. We run schemes in four socio-economically disadvantaged areas: Cardiff, Cornwall, Nottingham and Sheffield.
Sian Gaston teaches English at Truro and Penwith College in Cornwall and her students have taken part in the scheme since it was set up. She has written an article about the benefits of our online mentoring scheme to her students. Sian writes: 'in my 34-year career as an English teacher it has been one of the most transformational enrichment activities I have been involved with'. You can read Sian's full article here.

Events and masterclasses
In normal times, we hold a welcome reception for our new mentees and mentors and our outgoing cohort. Last month we did this online and it was fantastic to meet so many of you, plus hear from outgoing mentee Rosetta Fourlagawo, mentors and mentors Mark Daly, Roohi Hasan and Simon Vigar.
We are busy planning more masterclasses over the coming months, including events on sports journalism and resilience for journalists. Next month, on Thursday 18 March at 1930 GMT, BBC Presenter, Reeta Chakrabati and BBC Political Correspondent, Chris Mason, will give a masterclass on on live-presenting.
For more information about upcoming online events and to be added to our invitation list, please email us.
We are hugely indebted to our speakers, all of whom give their time for free.

Each month we ask past and present mentors to share their top tip for mentoring.
Current mentor Nina Dos Santos, Europe Editor for CNN (pictured) has these recommendations for mentees:
'Never be afraid to pick up the phone or drop your mentor an informal message each week with the highlights of what you have been doing. Encourage them to look at their mentor's current story coverage, learn how they approach a story or interview and follow their social media activity and re-tweet posts for extra visibility. Discuss story ideas with your mentor.'
