About this event

Eleos Justice Conversation Series brings together brightest thinkers and sharpest minds—academics, practitioners, advocates — to weigh in on topical issues pertaining to the death penalty in the Asia Pacific region.

Session title: Return of the death penalty in the Philippines?

In our first seminar, Dr Christopher Ward SC will offer his analysis on the possible reintroduction of the death penalty in the Philippines.

How likely is it that the government reintroduces the death penalty? Can international law prevent the reintroduction of the death penalty in the Philippines?

What is the Australian government’s role in preventing the reintroduction of the death penalty in the Philippines, if any? Can we learn anything from Australia’s diplomacy in other jurisdictions such as Indonesia?
