Alberta Government's proposed Assessment Model changes: Impact on rural communities
Alberta Government's proposed Assessment Model changes: Impact on rural communities
Why this petition matters
The Alberta government is proposing changes to the Assessment Model for regulated industrial properties such as wells and pipelines that will negatively impact the rural municipalities in Alberta by reducing revenues while potentially increasing taxes for its residents.
The Province is planning to proceed with changing the Assessment Model without seriously considering the impact on rural municipalities. Ms. Allard, the new minister, has indicated that a decision will be made by October 1.
Municipalities have always worked well with industry partners and support their work in our areas. Large oil and gas companies, however, will benefit the most -- and these companies generally have no interest in reinvesting in Alberta.
To Premier Jason Kenney; Hon. Tracy Allard, Minister of Municipal Affairs; Hon. Sonya Savage, Minister of Energy:
We the undersigned residents of Alberta:
Urge the Government of Alberta to cease with any proposed changes to the Assessment Model for regulated industrial properties such as wells and pipelines that will negatively impact the revenues and services of all rural municipalities in the Province of Alberta, and has the potential to significantly increase taxes for its residents.
