First responders, Front line and Essential workers in Newmarket were recognized as Honorary Citizens in the Town of Newmarket.
NEWMARKET, Ontario, October 9, 2020 – On October 9, the Town of Newmarket recognized its first responders, front line and essential workers in Newmarket with the Honorary Citizen Award.
A socially-distanced small ceremony took place at Fairy Lake Park to recognize representatives from each respective area. A permanent plaque was also unveiled to forever honour all first responders, front-line and essential workers for their dedication to keeping our community safe every day and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am proud to present the Honorary Citizen Award to all first-responders, front line and essential workers in Newmarket,” said Mayor John Taylor. “During these unprecedented times, it is these individuals who work hard day and night to ensure that we are safe, allow us to obtain our everyday essentials, provide us access to the health care we need and take care of our loved ones.”
The Newmarket Honorary Citizen Award appointment is presented in recognition of an individual / group for their outstanding service and commitment to the Town of Newmarket.
The Honorary Citizen Award is a nomination process in which Mayor and Members of Newmarket Council make appointments through a formal resolution. Awards are not given out every year and the last time an award was handed out was in 2017.
A presentation will follow the decision to award an individual/group of the Honorary Citizen designation. The unveiling of a plaque will permanently mark the Honorary Citizen’s achievements at the monument at Fairy Lake Park.
