Eisenman Materials Camp

Named after William Hunt Eisenman, the first managing director of ASM International, the Eisenman Camp is the largest and most elaborate Materials Camp® sponsored by the ASM Materials Education Foundation each year.

The Eisenman Materials Camp® is where the ASM Materials Education Foundation’s mission statement … to excite young people in materials, science and engineering careers … comes to life.

Students work on several group projects and experiments throughout the week-long camp and are instructed by “Materials Mentors” — professional members of ASM International from a variety of scientific backgrounds and industries.

Through research and experiments, students learn about materials science and how to operate distinctive and expensive laboratory equipment used in real-life materials science and engineering careers.

Who Should Attend?

  • Students entering their Junior (Grade 11) or Senior (Grade 12) year in high school in Fall 2024.
  • Highly motivated, inquisitive learners with math and science aptitude.

Why Attend?

  • This one-week, hands-on applied science camp features highly interactive, lab-based activities, leading small teams of students through an actual “forensic engineering investigation” complete with root cause identifications and recommended corrective actions.
  • Eisenman Materials Camp® offers a very unique team-based, intensive problem solving science experience under the direction of a distinguished world-class faculty and group of professional mentors.
  • Student attendees can expect a combination of mini-demonstrations, field trips, and extensive involvement in and use of ASM International’s world-class laboratory facilities to actively explore Materials Science and engineering principles.
  • Evening social activities include a materials “sub-theme.” Students also graduate during a ceremony on the final evening of the Camp where they will have the opportunity to meet and network with ASM International’s Cleveland Chapter, Foundation leaders and other Materials Science professionals.
  • Admittance is free of charge, including meals and hotel lodging.

“The ASM Materials Camp has been the BEST camp experience I’ve had. BAR NONE this camp is seriously something special and an experience I will forever keep close to my heart. After being at this camp, I now know what I want to do in the future. This camp has not only impacted my life, but it has most definitely impacted someone else’s life. I cannot express how grateful I am to have been a part of this experience.”

“I can’t even begin to express the gratitude I have for being given this opportunity to attend. I got more out of the camp than I ever imagined. Before this camp, I had no idea what field I would focus on. Now I may choose materials engineering!”
