Wilder Valley #2

Wild Mistake

Rate this book
Sarah Baker was the first girl I ever loved. It didn’t matter that we were high school sweethearts, our bond was unbreakable. Or so I thought.

I enlisted in the military to make a life for us and she promised to wait. Only, she crushed my heart, along with our dreams, when she married someone else.

Every inch of Wilder Valley is etched with memories of her, so I stay away, building a career for more than two decades.

But I can’t stay away forever.

When I return home, nothing is the way I expect it to be. My family has changed, but most surprising is discovering that Sarah is back too.

Separated from her husband, she’s raising her two teenage boys, living with her parents, and waiting tables at the diner.

Curiosity draws me to her, but that’s not what makes me stay. From the moment our eyes meet, the feelings I’d long forgotten come rushing back.

I’ve never loved anyone the way I’ve loved her. Maybe fate has brought us together again for a reason. Maybe finding each other too young was our only mistake. Maybe this is our second chance.

Aiden and Sarah’s book is the next standalone in the Wilder Valley series. This second chance, small town, single parent love story features a couple in their forties reconnecting after almost two decades apart.

Let me start off by saying Aiden is everything. There is NOTHING wrong with that man. He is perfect and did everything he could for Sarah and her boys.

Sarah on the other hand drove me absolutely insane. I understand she dealt with heartache but she never stood up for herself and let her ex husband AND son walk all over her. Then, she decides to push Aiden away when he is the only GOOD in her life? Why? Don't get it.

This definitely had potential, I just think the fmc ruined it for me sadly.

I am always leery when I start a second chance romance, I am stubborn and I completely hold grudges against characters who do the main character wrong… luckily that wasn’t really the case here! Sarah and Aiden were both young when they made decisions that led to them walking away from each other. While they both broke the other’s heart, they willingly gave in to the attraction and friendship that was always there. Aiden wanted Sarah from the second he saw her again and he had no problem admitting that, it’s always great reading books where the male is the determined character that knows exactly what he wants! The petty and grudge holding side of me really wanted something to happen with Sarah’s ex… I thought for sure the kids would realize what a d-bag he was being, but no, Kacey Shea took the high road with her writing. I read the book when it first came out but listening to it now just made it so much better. Robert Hatchet and Samantha Brentmoor did a great job narrating, they really added something extra that brought the characters to life.

This was small town perfection. A second chance romance between a single mom and an ex-ranger, both Sarah and Aiden stole my heart from the very first page. Loved it!

🎧🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧🎧

I jumped right into Sarah & Aiden’s story as soon as I finished listening to Wild Hearts and it was honestly one of the best listening experiences I’ve had in a while.

Sarah & Aiden’s story continued the feel-good vibe started by Val & Ryan and it made me feel so much happiness that I honestly thought I was just reading one long story! Kacey didn’t miss a beat with this small-town romance journey! GAH, all of my favorite things were wrapped up in this beautiful package! The story itself was very well developed. The reconnecting and developing of their relationship were very relatable and realistic. My heart broke and soared with these two but that rollercoaster was well worth it. I just cannot wait to dig deeper into this series!

About the narration … Samantha Brentmoor is one of my all-time favorite female narrators because she is always so versatile, and she makes me feel the characters deep to my bones. She is just perfection and I absolutely LOVE HER! I am becoming quite enamored with Robert Hatchet’s voice and I’m already on the hunt for more of his narrations!

I Need to Move to Wilder Valley!!

Sarah and Aiden are high school sweethearts. Because of how their birthdays fall, Aiden graduates a year before Sarah. He enlists in the Army for 3 years, and asks Sarah to wait.

The action starts about eighteen years later. We know Sarah and Aiden “didn’t happen”. Aiden is just retiring after years as an Army Ranger. Sarah has moved back in the process of a divorce with her 15 and 17 year old sons.

These are wonderful characters. Wilder Valley is great, unless you are a newly moved teen. We get glimpses into the past which slowly tell the story of why these two special people didn’t end up married.

So relatable as each main character is going through a change, dealing with a father with dementia, unhappy teens, and a small town with high expectations and wagging tongues.

Literally could not put this down - such a terrific read.

Great job done by the narrators. They brought the story to life. A small town young love and second chances. When Aiden joined the service after highschool. Sarah said she would wait. Life has a way of making its own plans.
Aiden’s time serving is over and Sarah is back in town after a failed marriage. Can they just be friends or will all the feelings from the past come back. But can they make it work or will their past keep them apart. A great second change love story. Has been a great series and can’t wait for the next. Small town, second chances, my kind of story. Wilder Valley, a place Sarah never thought she would return to; too many missed chances and memories. She has returned, a failed marriage and two teenagers in tow. She did not expect Aiden to return as well.

Will they get their chance? Did their love withstand the twenty-year separation?

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Wild Mistake by Kacey Shea captured my heart so easily. This small town, second chance romance is all about heartaching feels, epic chemistry and beautiful love you won't be able to resist even if you try. Aiden and Sarah take me through an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every second of it!

Aiden Wilder has come back to Wilder Valley after twenty one Years of military service. And the girl he loved and was engaged to and who broke his heart..is back too. Sarah has just separated from her cheating husband. Two teenage sons , a challenging painful illness, monetary problems..she has a lot on her plate. The last thing she needs is the heartbreak from the past. But Aiden is determined to mend their hearts. It won't be easy.

This story encompasses many different kinds of love. Once Aiden and Sarah were young and the beauty of their dreamy love made me swoon. Then came the heartache and pain. And finally, they tackled their issues as adults. Now, being adult doesn’t mean they had everything sorted. Sarah is full of anger and betrayals and rejection and hopelessness while she tries to make everyone happy. Often at cost of her body and heart. Aiden is adjusting to post military life and he regrets missing so much of his family issues. And his biggest regret is the way he disappointed Sarah all those years back. He is so swoony and charming and just the perfect book boyfriend. He is insanely protective and love his alpha personality. He is super sexy and demanding in bed too! A perfect example of gentleman in street and rogue under sheets! Sarah is really strong and fierce and she fought constantly against all odds. She just needed someone in her corner. And that was Aiden. Even all these years later, their electrifying connection is strong. They have to deal with their issues but they complete each other.

Sarah has been crushing on Aiden for the longest time, so it feels like a dream when Aiden finally returns her feelings and they start dating. But her dreams were shattered when Aiden decided to enlist in the military. Aiden proposed and asked her to wait for 3 years to come back and marry her. Fast forward 20 years later, Sarah is now divorcing her husband (not Aiden) and going back to her parent’s home with 2 teenage boys, just as Aiden decided to retire from the military….

The book picks right up from Wild Hearts, when Aiden suddenly shows up at the family dinner. Just around the same time, Sarah came back to town after divorcing her cheating husband. We slowly learn the snippets of their relationship while Aiden was in the military for the first time through their letter exchange. Because I have no idea what made their relationship crumble years ago, I was curious the whole time until it was revealed later in the book.

I will always pick up a second chance romance book, it’s one of my all-time favorite tropes. I love the grovel that is usually involved, and Aiden did a top-notch groveling, and I love that. He’s definitely the one in the wrong, and it was hard listening to the flashback of their breakup years ago. But he did make it up in my opinion, especially what he did at the end. A big grand gesture from the hero always gets me! Poor Sarah, she went through so much in her life, from Aiden’s selfishness, her cheating husband, and her chronic pain, this woman just cannot get a break. But she is such a good mother to her boys, and she worked really hard for them. So she deserves everything, and Aiden is ready to give it to her. This is how a second chance romance should end, and I love their story so much.

I love both narrators, they have done a great job delivering the characters into life, it’s so easy to listen and I enjoy my time with this book. Samantha particularly did such a great job portraying other characters with her voice, I could feel the distinction from one character to another, well done!

Kacey Shea has done it again with the characters in Wilder Valley. I don’t know what is in the water, but I want to be drinking it lol

Sarah and Aiden’s story kept me intrigued. They were high school sweethearts when Aiden decided to enlist in the miliary. Sarah was kept waiting and then drama ensues. We get past and present versions of their stories which helped make the ending full of tears. I did find this to be switching from Hallmark vibes to HBO vibes. Aiden would be sweet, but dirty talk like a champ. I was all here for that.

I found the present to be relatable in terms of aging, parenthood, and body image. Sarah was nervous about her age and how her body has presented. All things I can relate to after giving birth and life happening. Her ex-husband wasn’t someone who helped her gain the confidence either. I loved how Aiden embraced her changes and made her feel beautiful when she didn’t feel beautiful.
Wild Mistake has it all. All the feels, angst, drama, and the spice level I’m a fan of.

ARC Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was so excited to return to Wilder Valley with Aiden and Sarah and Kacey Shea did not disappoint.

Aiden Wilder and Sarah Baker were high school sweethearts. Aiden being a year older then Sarah enlisted in the Army after graduating high school. He asked Sarah to wait for him to come back and they could start a life together.

After 3 years Aiden comes home to Wilder Valley and Sarah is excited for their future to get going. The only problem? Aiden decided to resign for another 3 years.

Fast forward 18 years, both Aiden and Sarah are back in Wilder Valley after living apart for 18 years. Sarah is back with her two teenage sons after leaving her husband and Aiden is back following retirement from the Army Rangers.

The two reconnect and the sparks fly as if they haven’t been apart for 18 years. But is it enough or will Sarah push him away once again.

I absolutely binged this book, the story was just so sweet and the way Aiden treated Sarah was heartwarming.

If you’re a fan of small town second chance romances with characters in their 40s this is one story you don’t want to miss !

This book! I was not ready for the emotions I felt with Aiden and Sarah’s story.
Sarah was such a strong character that I absolutely admired. Not only did she have the strength to walk away from her marriage and move back home with her two teenage sons but she also suffers with fibromyalgia. I’ve seen how difficult it is for someone who has this condition and Kacey Shea did an outstanding job dealing with it in such an empathetic and caring manner.
Aiden! Well he snuck in and took me by surprise. He knew what he wanted and was nothing short of determined.
He was extremely caring and supportive of Sarah, always knowing what she needed.
There’s no denying the chemistry these two share that’s for sure, their connection is just as strong after all these years.
This was a fantastic enjoyable read and I look forward to more in this series.

I absolutely love a second chance romance and this one stole my heart and soul. Aiden and Sarah were destined to be together, however decisions made as young adults has their future taking a different path and promises being broken. As circumstances have these two crossing paths back in the same small town again it might just be fate telling them that it is never too late. Their story touches your heart and at times has you holding your breath. The chemistry, love and passion between these two is nothing short of beautiful. However it does have its ups and downs and love doesn't run a smooth path the second time around. Aiden needs to learn to stand up and fight for love the same way he did for his country and Sarah needs to finally put her needs and wants first. A beautiful and heartwarming story that has the most magical ending.
April 16, 2023
Second chance and small town are two of my favorite tropes to read. Add a single mom, a retired army ranger, high school sweethearts, a meddling family, and all the feels. Could it get any better?

After 20 years as an Army Ranger, Aiden Wilder is back in Wilder Valley. He avoided going to his hometown for years because everything reminded him of the one who got away. But destiny is knocking as Sarah has moved back also with her two teenage sons. She is figuring out what to do while waiting to divorce her cheating husband.

The connection between these two is insane. She is not ready to be in a relationship and still hasn't forgiven Aiden. But he is so swoony! He caters to her needs and is protective. Yet, he is not overbearing and understands he must show Sarah she can rely on him. Sarah needs to heal and doesn't trust easily. Can they have a second chance at love?

I adored that their young-love story is told through the letters they exchanged after Aiden enlisted. While Sarah is feisty and strong, it got on my nerve how much she doubted her love for Aiden and her worth. I wanted to shake her! I'm in love with the Wilders and their small town, so I'm curious about what will come next.

This is a brilliant second chance romance.
Sarah is back in her home town with her two teenage boys after finding out her husband has been cheating on her. What she didn't expect was that her high school boyfriend was also back living in town.
Aiden had left the Army and was back home and couldn't wait to see his ex Sarah. As soon as he saw her the feelings of love her had for her were back.
I loved how they were together but could they really get back the love they once had when so much had changed for them.
Plenty of drama with so much emotion but also lots of love with a perfect ending.

Wild Mistake

Aiden and Sarah were high school sweethearts and had a bright future ahead of them together. Then Aiden decides to enlist without talking to Sarah, and they go their separate ways. Yeara later, Sarah is now divorced with two teenage sons, and Aiden is out of the military after twenty-one years of service. Can the two reunite and get back that spark that made them so good together?

This was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. You can't help but feel for both of them after the struggles they went through and the miscommunication that happened to break them apart. Seeing them back together was sweet, and you just find yourself rooting for them. Their story is one a lot of people can relate to, so it's very easy to connect with their characters.

I didn't really believe in the reason why they separated to start, and felt like if they were truly as close as we're lead to believe then this situation wouldn't have actually happened.

This was cute, but the end felt super rushed AND the past chapters seemed incomplete. I feel like there needed to be more about their original breakup and how her marriage started.

I loved Aiden. He was sweet and so wholesome. It made me emotional to read about his love for Sarah, as he never fell out of love with her. She was the one that got away, even if it was his decision that pushed her away.

I felt so bad for Sarah, but miss girl really messed up during the third act. I understand her thought process, but it was the wrong decision—ESPECIALLY with Aiden saving Gabe and standing up to her ex!

Kacey Shea the author knows how to grab your heart with her love stories. This is book 2 in the series. It’s a great second chance romance with high school sweethearts.

Hero is Ryan
Heroine is Valeria

You meet both Characters in book 1 at the end .
Ryan had some news for Valeria that he dreaded to tell her. At a field party Ryan decided to tell Valeria the news. Valeria thinks Ryan is going to ask her to be his wife. But once Ryan tells her the news ( grab it and see ). He also tells her to be patient he will return within a few yrs.

But life throws both of them a turn till they reconnect.

This second chance romance truly does a number on your heart. The feels are major, the emotions huge and the heartstring tugging intense as Sarah and Aiden's story unfolds. This couple's romance seemed so incredibly honest and genuine that I couldn't help loving them even if I found them very frustrating on occasion. Still, these two give off extreme meant-to-be vibes that have you fiercely invest and desperate for a long awaited happy ever after for them. This is my independent, frank review.

Anyone who has loved and lost that first love will feel the resonation from Wild Mistake, this amazing second-chance romance! Sarah’s reminiscing of her first love, Aiden, hits home when she returns to her hometown after a nasty separation and pending divorce. Reconnecting with Aiden is the last thing on her mind and yet somewhere along her healing, she finds herself again.

It was amazing seeing both their emotions out to play, and scary at how easy it was to empathize with Sarah and Aiden. Both have them had grown in the 18 years they’d been apart in such different ways.

Great second chance romance!

I love second chance romance and also reading about characters that are older and Wild Mistake was a great love story.
I loved reading about Sarah and Aiden's love story when they were younger through the letters and today almost 20 years later.
They both changed and the road to happily ever after won't be easy but the love and connection between them is real and strong.

There are so many things to love about this story. First and foremost, I appreciated Ms. Shea for portraying an MC with a chronic disease so realistically and not in an idyllic view. Sarah has fibromyalgia; how Sarah accepts and controls her condition was dealt with care and respect.
I also enjoyed that the characters were older as the MC has teenage children.

Aiden is a new book boyfriend for me. He treats Sarah with respect, care, and love. He's not afraid to show Sarah his love and goodness the spice in this one was HIGH. Not only does he love Sarah with all his heart, but he comes to love her children as much as Sarah.

Overall, this book was fantastic! This second chance story had loads to offer and Ms. Shea has done it again.

Wild Mistake is another wonderful, second-chance, small-town romance in the Wilder Valley series! The characters, the setting - everything about this world is absolutely addicting, and Sarah and Aiden were just an amazing couple to get to know. And listening to this book for a second time, Robert Hatchet and Samantha Brentmoor did a fantastic job bringing Sarah and Aiden to life! This was my first time listening to Robert, and his voice was just so smooth and I loved listening to him. And Samantha Brentmoor, I just love her narrations as she just embodies whatever character she is playing. Spot-on casting for both characters!

I just really enjoyed watching these two fall back in love, even if the love never truly went away. Yes, Sarah had been married and had two children - but Aiden was the love of her life. Seeing how things went wrong and what broke them apart absolutely broke my heart. But luckily these two found themselves back in Wilder Valley at the same time, at the time when Sarah needed someone more than ever. Loved how supportive Aiden was with Sarah, especially after seeing how her ex treated her. Plus, seeing how Aiden was with her boys - he truly was incredible.

My only issue with the story was how similar the storyline was in a sense to the first book. Even though I absolutely loved both stories, just wish there had been a little bit more of a difference.

But it's not going to keep me from reading more in this series - because it really is amazing! Definitely looking forward to the next book in Wilder Valley!
