Want to know what’s going on in the stock market? Look to the order book, also known as the application queue. You’ll find this in investment apps and online.

Using the order book, you can sell and buy many assets: stocks, bonds, currencies, futures, commodities, etc.

This guide has two sides. One with a green background and one with a red background. As you already know, it takes two to tango. For a trade, you need a buyer and a seller who agree to the terms. On the green pages, you can see the list of buy orders (or demand). On the red pages, you’ll see the sell orders (or supply).

The Buy and Sell columns show the volume in lots that is available at this price. You’ll see that the supply is called “bid” while the demand is called “ask” in the market. If you want to buy shares, look at the prices in the sell orders.

The market price is the one in between the bid and ask prices. You can suggest any price you like but the closer it is to the market price the more chances you have to fulfill your trade.

If you work with small amounts of liquid tools, you don’t need to present information in the Order Book. You might, however, need to see all the counter bids to plan your trade.
