Rock ‘n Fun 2020 FAQ

Thank you for your help with our effort to raise funds for Stratford!

You may have heard about our biggest fundraiser in the past that has been called the Rock ‘n Run, but this year with the Stratford Community teaching and learning in a different way, we had to add a bit of a twist to our annual fundraiser. This will still be a community event that will bring all of our school together, but this year we are focused on all the good things, so it will be Rock ‘n Fun!

The event is right around the corner, and here are a few things you need to know to help the PTA make this event a success!

What are the key dates for the Rock ‘n’ Fun?

 Kick Off Event: November 11th

Campaign Dates: November 11th - November 23rd

Prize Pick Up: November 20th

 Event: December 1st

What is Rock ‘n’ Fun?

Instead of constantly fundraising, the PTA organizes a huge event that gets the kids excited and meets the financial needs of the school all at once. Students will collect donations online that will contribute to the overall school goal of fundraising and the school will earn fun prizes along the way! All students will be working toward earning the same prizes as One Stratford school, and there will be lots of fun along the way. The end result will be a fun community-building event that will raise money for the PTA to go toward programs that support student enrichment.

How is the Rock ‘n Fun similar to the Rock ‘n Run?

The PTA has been hosting the Rock ‘n Run for the last 7 years, and why we are disappointed to not be able to hold that event, we’ve worked to bring some of the fun from this event into our new event, the Rock ‘n Fun. Some of the things that will remain the same:

• All students can participate

• All students will receive a t-shirt

• All students will benefit from the prizes distributed

• Stratford Landing will come together as ONE to support and cheer for each other

• Funds raised will go to meeting the needs of our Care and Share students, our classrooms, our teachers and school as a whole

• 6th grade will still raise money separately for all of their activities

How is the Rock ‘n Fun different from the Rock ‘n Run?

Because of current events, we’ve had to change up our fundraiser this year, so you will see some differences from years past. Here are some of the things you will see that are different.

• Funds raised will be raised as a school, rather than as a class

• All donations will be collected ONLINE through the PTA site

• Prizes will be distributed school-wide, based on school totals

• There will be a prize/ t-shirt pick up for students

• There will not be a school run, but rather the entire school will be treated to a week of voting for fun activities, asked to participate in physical challenges and everyone will participate in one big ROCK ‘N FUN event at the end to celebrate!,

We look forward to celebrating with our school community on the morning of 1 Dec 2020. Check out our SLES PTA’s budget priorities, make a donation or join the PTA at https://slpta.org/.

How are communications handled?

The PTA works hard to spread the word for the Rock ‘n’ Fun. The PTA will be sending out information and news through the PTA channels, but will also put together fundraising information that the teachers and staff can share with students and family members. The PTA will be asking teachers to help us get students to respond to surveys that will help us with the Rock ‘n Fun event. This survey will help us choose music and fun events for the pep rally.

How are donations handled?

Donations will all be done online this year through the PTA website. We normally have one page for each class, but keeping with theme One Stratford, there will only be one donation page where the whole school will raise money as One. The PTA will be sharing the link through various communications channels and will also encourage teachers to share the link in weekly communications. Prizes earned will be announced daily and there will be a daily community spirit challenge to help excite the school community during the fundraising time frame.

As like years in the past, the 6th grade will have a separate money raising campaign at the same time to raise money for their activities.

What will be on the daily Community Spirit Videos?

The PTA will work in advance to create a daily fun activity to help excite the students and challenge them to do something fun. These may include a fun run, a dance move, or something else during the campaign. These videos should be part of the morning meeting each day to help make the event fun for the school community.

What are the prizes?

We select prizes the students earn that often benefit the classroom! Here are just a few examples of prizes we are looking at this year:  $200 Book Fair credit for Classroom; Therapy Reading Dog Session that can be offered online; t-shirts for the whole school; enrichment programs for the classroom and many other fun ideas!

How will the PTA use the Rock ‘n Fun donations?

One of the best things about this fundraiser is the donations and money raised go directly back to the school and students. Students will benefit from many of the prizes that include enrichment activities and fun! Every dollar counts and the PTA is committed to providing tangible ways to support families who are learning in the school or virtually, and resources and programs to look forward to when students return to school. This overarching goal includes 1) resources to support outdoor education, 2) support for teachers on virtual platforms and in-person classrooms (i.e. classroom libraries), 3) non-screen learning tools for families, and 4) mindfulness initiatives.

6th grade will use the funds they raise this year to cover their expenses and will have some special activities for 6th grade throughout the year.

What happens on Rock ‘n Fun Day?

The PTA is planning to create a video for the Rock ‘n Fun event that we are asking to be played by teachers the morning of December 1st. This video will have dancing, special shout outs, and some principal “would you rather” challenges that are part of the prizes the students will earn during the event.
