Connecting EU/UK companies to advanced manufacturing, tech, smart city & sustainability opportunities in Singapore/Asia

I often get the feeling in conversations with overly-humble European & UK entrepreneurs that they aren't aware of Europe being seen relatively positively by #Singapore and #SoutheastAsia (SEA) stakeholders. These #European and #UK corporates/#startups are also not capitalising sufficiently on goodwill & their good reputation when pitching for business & co-innovation opportunities in the region. Sharing some #Europe-related findings from ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS)'s The State of Southeast Asia 2021 survey (link to report in comments). Not sure if you observe the same phenomenon too? 🤔 ---- "The EU & Japan are the clear front-runners for ASEAN's most favoured and trusted strategic partners in the hedging game against US-China rivalry. "The EU comes in 2nd place after Japan (51.0%) with many viewing the EU as a reliable champion on issues such as the rule of law, global governance, free trade, sustainability and climate change." "SEA respondents (32.4%) view the ability of the EU to provide leadership in maintaining a rules-based order and upholding international law positively. "Respondents are equally split between the US (22.5%), the EU (22.2%) and ASEAN (20.6%) in the ability to champion international trade."

Zhilin Sim You are right about that "EU & UK not capitalising sufficiently on goodwill & their good reputation" most of the company leadership that we have seen (as a team) are humble, and some even think there is cultural, language etc as barrier. However that's the biggest overlap / advantage in cultural values. S E Asia - is wide open for collaboration and active business participation, young leaders of SMEs and startups in ASEAN region are amazing to work with. Also the largest market in terms of $ value is rapidly transforming into tech driven business. It has to be "One Europe" effort than each EU country based business group approaching ASEAN region to keep things easy, simple and faster for everyone.

Well said. Doing our little bit to move the needle.

Interesting for the French Tech ecosystem. If you can give some good advices, it will be interesting to act to improve the pitches .
