Jazmine Sullivan to Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl

  /  01.19.2021

Jazmine Sullivan is headed to the Super Bowl.

Fresh off the release of her new project Heaux Tales, the R&B singer has been booked to perform the national anthem as part of the Super Bowl LV pre-game festivities on Feb. 7, the NFL announced Tuesday.

She will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” alongside country star Eric Church, but it’s unclear if they will be trading verses or harmonizing. “The intended message of teaming up a white country singer with a Black R&B artist to sing the national anthem at a time of social unrest is clear,” writes Variety.

Jazmine’s “Girl Like Me” collaborator H.E.R. will also join the festivities, performing “America the Beautiful” during the CBS Kick-Off Show ahead of the big game at 6 p.m. EST.

Jazmine joins an illustrious list of artists who have performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl including Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, and more.

Earlier this month, Jazmine released her first project in six years, Heaux Tales, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

As previously announced, The Weeknd will headline the halftime show when Super Bowl LV airs live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. on Sunday, Feb. 7.

The Super Bowl is the most-watched U.S. television event of the year. Last year’s broadcast drew an estimated 102 million viewers.
