About

Home. It's a word that is full of resonance for all of us. DREAMS OF THE DEAD explores the loss of a family home in Richmond that was demolished to make way for new houses, for new families. The place became hyper-charged with meaning and memory in the wake of my grandmother's death; in exploring this part of my personal history, I am exploring how all of us relate emotionally to place, and how places become a repository for memory, especially when they are lost to us.

- Marlene Rodgers, Co-Director

Join filmmaker Marlene Rodgers for a screening of the film, followed by a discussion. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences of memory and place, especially in the ever-changing community that is Richmond. In advance of, or after the screening, participants are also invited to contribute to THE MEMORY PROJECT, a forum for sharing photos of places or objects that connect people to a home from their past — whether it is in Richmond, or in a place that was left behind, in order to migrate elsewhere.

For those unable to attend the screening and discussion, the film is available to view at any time on-line.

This documentary was filmed in Richmond, which is on unceded lands of the Coast Salish People, including the Musqueam, Tsawwassen and Kwantlen Nations.
