The government will place high priority to expand religious knowledge and teachings of Islam across the entire nation, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Taking the podium at the graduation ceremony of students enrolled at the National Centre for the Holy Quran, President Solih revealed that it is a pledge of his administration, to do so.

As such, he revealed that expanding religious knowledge and teachings in the archipelago nation is one of the key pledges under the vision of Solih’s “Jazeera Raajje”, going on to announce the government’s plans to begin sponsoring living costs for any students enrolled in a course to memorize the Holy Quran outside of their resident island, from 2022 onwards.

Congratulating the graduates, the president revealed that they have finished their studies in a major sphere, as Quran teachers, Imams and other religious guides had always played a key role in our society.

He went on to shed light on the significance of learning to recite the Holy Quran alongside understanding the feelings it induces within listeners and the lessons to learn from the holy verses.

Noting that the Quran teaches people on their strength in unity, Solih stated that the Quran also teaches people to extend a helping hand without bias or differentiation.

Those who abuse the teachings of the Quran to promote extremist agendas were condemned by the president, who noted that the Quran decrees that the society must treat each other with empathy, patience and kindness.

The president went on to express confidence that the graduates would prove themselves to be model citizens in the society.

The ceremony was also joined by cabinet ministers and senior officials from the government.
