Description

Being able to talk about food is essential for children with language disorders. Use related vocabulary to build semantic skills with these file folder activities, task cards, and board games. These different activities work great one-on-one, in small groups, and would be an excellent addition to special education classrooms.

Depending on your students and their needs, Food Vocabulary is designed for kindergarten through second grade. The activities are differentiated with the file folder activities being the easiest and the boardgames cards being the most difficult.

Food Vocabulary works on a wide range of receptive and expressive activities. It is very versatile and can grow with your students. It focuses on categorization skills, associations, functions, similarities and differences, and describing with this group of activities.

Potential Goals:

  1. Increase food vocabulary knowledge and use.
  2. Increase the ability to categorize food in different ways.
  3. Increase the ability to group food and related objects by what is related (associations).
  4. Increase the ability to explain why two foods are associated.
  5. Increase the ability to explain how you eat different food.
  6. Increase the ability to name food in a category.
  7. Increase the ability to describe different food.
  8. Increase the ability to compare and contrast different foods.

Here's what you'll get: There are three main activities included - file folder activities, task cards, and board games with cards. The PDF file was designed to help reduce prep, and the board games cards are color-coded for ease of organization. Additional extension activities are also included to help further extend these activities.
