Roadworks on all highways to stop over Raya period

GOMBAK: Roadworks on all highways nationwide will stop temporarily from April 18 to May 7, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Works Minister said this was to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

The stop-work order is one of the initiatives taken for the safety and convenience of road users during the festive season.

"With the approval of concessionaires, I have ordered for all roadworks to stop from today to May 7," he told reporters at the Gombak Toll Plaza on Tuesday (April 18).

He said he had spoken to highway concessionaires such as Plus Malaysia and Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (Akleh) to ensure all road users continue receiving the best services.

"We have assigned the emergency response teams along the highways, the rest and service (R&R) areas are in good condition, and we are open to feedback or complaints about road-related matters," he added.

Meanwhile, Nanta gave his thumb-up to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement on Tuesday that all motorists will enjoy toll-free journeys from April 19 to 21 and on April 24.

"It is the first time the government is introducing the Tol Rahmah Percuma initiative on 33 highways nationwide for four days.
