An overwhelming number of academics across U.S. colleges and universities are teaching classes and publishing papers that promote the sex trade as empowering for women. This approach is failing to recognize the systemic racism, sexism and economic inequalities on which the sex trade flourishes. The pornography industry is not an exception to this uncritical assessment.

Continuing our conversation around academia and its perspectives on the sex trade, the next virtual round table in CATW’s At the Edge of the Margins series will convene academic experts on pornography to examine the Ivory Tower’s viewpoints on this multi-billion dollar industry. Panelists will also consider the sociocultural, economic and political impact of this normalization of pornography beyond academia, including on our collective work to end sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Join us on Jan. 19, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. EST for At the Edge of the Margins: How the academy hijacked the feminist anti-porn movement.

This virtual event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
