Sad news from the black-metal world. Stuart Anstis, a former guitarist of Cradle of Filth, has died at the age of 48. The news was posted by another ex-Cradle of Filth member, Richard Shaw, who shared his condolences in a brief Instagram post.

"Rest in peace, Stuart. It was an honour performing your music," Shaw wrote. "Thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time."

Anstis played in Cradle of Filth from 1995 to 1999, but during that brief stint in the group, he wrote and recorded on several of the band's most iconic albums, including 1996's Dusk and Her Embrace and 1998's Cruelty and the Beast.

As of now, there's no word on a cause of death or any other posts from other Cradle of Filth-associated musicians. R.I.P., Stuart.
