Antiques Show to benefit hospital

The 46th annual Antiques Show hosted by the Catskill Regional Medical Center Auxiliary to benefit the hospital will be from 10 a.m-6 p.m. July 31 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 1. It will be at Cook School on Richardson Avenue in Monticello, under the direction of Shirley Hornbeck and Evelyn Haas. The annual journal will be dedicated to Haas, a young 82, who has been active with the auxiliary and numerous Sullivan County organizations and charities for more almost 40 years.

The auxiliary has pledged more than $26 million through the years to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for the hospital. This year's purchase will be a portable sonogram machine capable of bedside use for ob-gyn studies as well as vascular intervention.

- "Civil War Women: Their Roles and Their Legacies" will be the topic presented by Trish Chambers from 7-8 p.m. today the Middletown Thrall Library. The program is free and connected with the panel exhibit "Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation." For information, call 341-5461.

- Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County, headed by Nancy Koslowski, will be involved in a block-by-block inventory in the Town of Wallkill and the City of Middletown through Aug. 5. They will be seeking places, spaces, activities and services for youths enrolled in the nonprofit as well as for their families. Last year, the group collected more than 420 surveys in the town and city of Newburgh and the Town of New Windsor. For information, call 342-3939.

- Potter Barbara Brown and landscape photographer Greg Miller will attend the opening reception from 4-8 p.m. Saturday of their exhibit at the Catskill Artists Gallery, 38 S. Main St. in Liberty. Work can be viewed through Aug. 28. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 292-0310.

- Registration is being accepted for basketball and swim camps at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. The basketball camp for youths 7-17 will be Aug. 1-5 and 8-12. All sessions will be from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the college's Kaplan Recreation Center. Duane Davis will direct the camp. The cost is $265 per session or $450 for both. Lunch is included.

The swim camp will be Aug. 15-19. Swimmers ages 8-10 will be in the junior camp and swimmers 11-17 in the senior camp. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Kaplan Center pool. Gene and Mary Damm are the coaches. The junior camp is $225 and the senior camp $245. Lunch is included.

- Jane Shuback, president of the Hudson Valley Polonaise Society and editor of the group's excellent newsletter, will be conducting another tour of Poland Sept. 11-25. The guided tour, which is called "a grand circle of Poland," was requested by the membership and is open to the public. For information, call 343-6198.

- Watercolorist Jack Yelle of Roscoe frequently has his work on display at Gander Mountain in the Town of Wallkill. The outdoors and wildlife artist also paints animals on a popular set of china that is sold at the store. An exhibit of his artwork is planned for the fall. - Winners in the recent 30th annual Artists on the Campus Show at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh include Richard Ochs, Sister Francis Joseph Egan Best in Show Award; Kitty Fabrico, Bethlehem Art Gallery Award; James Amore, Wildlife Award; P.K. Eagleton, Gayle Clark Fedigan Gallery Award.

Also, Fred Dahl, first in oil/acrylics; Brian Rapp, first in black-and-white photography; Cynthia Papaleo-Seeley, first in color photography; Michael Gancarz, first in drawing; John Kruppa, first in water media; Diane Roach, first in pastels; and Robert Getz, first in sculpture. Congratulations.

- Scott Lindner has been elected chairman of the board of Junior Achievement of the Hudson Valley, a nonprofit for students in grades K-12 that teaches business, economics and free enterprise. Lindner is a senior vice president with the Bank of New York. The bank has offered leadership to the organization for more than 25 years.

- Community leader and World War II veteran Anthony Buccieri collected 400 pairs of eyeglasses for the Newburgh Lions recently. The glasses are recycled and used in Third World countries.
