But in order to do so, she will have to make a deal with the devil...

Sebastian Colver, known as the Bastard of Baker Street, is feared throughout London as the city’s most notorious gambling den owner and undisputed king of the underground. His life is nothing but darkness and danger, so he is shocked when the petite lady gracing his doorstep seems anything but frightened of him. He agrees to be a silent partner in the publishing of the Gazette if she will use her connections to sponsor his sister and launch her into Society and away from his dark world.

But exposing the secrets of the rich and powerful can be dangerous. Almost as dangerous as a lady falling in love with the king of the underground.

Series: Secrets, Scandals, and Spies #1
Publication Date: 5/17/21
Period: Victorian
Number of Pages: 400

This was an engrossing, non-stop exciting, totally scrumptious read. The lead characters were scrumptious, the villain was vile, and the supporting cast was delicious. From the first words on the first page, you’ll fall in love with Sebastian, the bastard son of a vile duke, who now rules as The Bastard of Baker Street – or King of the Rookeries if you prefer. You’ll also love the feisty, determined, brave, and lovely Lady Olivia Haliford, the spinster daughter of a duke, who doesn’t let her pronounced limp hold her back from anything she is determined to do.

Lady Olivia (Livie) and her friends Henrietta (Etta) Merriweather and Lady Kaitlyn (Kat) Montrose are in deep mourning for their friend Alice. They had all been the best of friends – forever – and now Alice was buried. Everybody said it was by her own hand because she had been ruined, but Livie was sure she had been murdered. The three friends were determined to unmask the man who ruined Alice and took her life. Each of them has a skill that will help them bring the culprit down – and they’ll go further than that – their crusade will bring all of the men who prey on women down. It shouldn’t be the women who are the sole ones to pay for those indiscretions, but that is the way it is now. Their plan is to start a monthly publication that will expose those bachelors who are taking advantage of the ladies of society. Theirs won’t be a gossip publication – they will only publish names and information where they have actual proof. Emma is gifted with words and will write the articles, Kat has a huge network of informants who can find out all of the information anyone would want to know, and Livie has the social skills and instincts to elicit information from the highest echelons of society. So, all they need to set their publication in motion is the funds to finance it. Livie knows just the right person to approach. Will he invest in their project? She’ll convince him – no matter what.

Sebastian Colver rules his empire with an iron fist and trusts absolutely nobody. He can’t afford to have emotions because emotions will get someone killed in his line of work. He has worked many years to make his fortune and now, he is mostly legitimate and one of the richest people in England. He’s been ignoring letters from some woman who has been demanding an appointment with him. She is a very determined lady; he’ll give her that. Then, this striking woman walks into his office and confronts him. How did she manage to get past all of his men? She definitely has courage to show up, uninvited, at his office. She intrigues him, so how can he refuse to at least listen to what she has to say.

Neither Sebastian nor Livie knows the repercussions of the bargain they strike. There are enemies just beneath the surface – and they are everywhere. Is there one enemy – or more? Can Sebastian keep himself safe? Can he keep Livie safe? Is there anyone he can trust?

I loved watching Livie and Sebastian work together and separately. I loved Livie’s courage and determination and I loved Sebastian’s honor – and strangely enough – his honesty. I also adored Livie’s family. It was such a very refreshing change to have a loving and supportive family in a historical romance. I liked Livie’s godmother very much, but the family member I loved the most was Livie’s father. When he told her, “To love another is a gift. And when you find love, you must hold onto it dearly for as long as you can, no matter the consequences. For it can be taken away from you in an instant.” Another thing he said to Livie, “You must be brave with your heart, for true courage is taking a leap even in the face of your greatest fears.

I highly recommend this book and I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

3.5 stars. I really liked the way that this story started, but didn't really like the direction that the author took with the conflict and ending. I think the worst part of this story was that it took place over the coarse of a week or two and that short timeline was just unrealistic for the H&h to be declaring such strong feelings for one another when they really didn't even spend a whole lot of time together. I think, all told, the H&h spent more time apart than they spent together during this story.

Also, the ending was a little too... easy. I could not for the life of me believe that the heroine's father would be ok with the heroine marrying a man who has committed countless murders and all other forms of crime. It's just too wild, he didn't even sit down and talk to the hero first. He just gave his blessing. I really don't mind some aspects in romance to be unbelievable, but this just felt lazy.

While technically a HEA ending, this really felt more HFN considering how unstable the hero's life is.

Safe w/ exception; virgin heroine, hero's past not mentioned too much except to say he had been celibate for close to a year. There is one point when he decides that he needs to relieve his needs with OW because he thinks his attraction to the heroine is purely since he's been without for too long. Unfortunately for me, the story soon skips forward several days after he decides this, and it is never mentioned again. He never again says that it's been a long time for him, or that he didn't end up going through with it. I was WAITING for the confirmation that he didn't actually go relieve himself with someone else, but it never came. IDK if the author just forgot, or if she decided to allow the reader to believe what they want. Either way, this put a damper on the entire story for me. Besides this, there is no OM/OW drama, no scenes with OM/OW, no cheating.

TW: Ableist comments; heroine walks with a cane because of a childhood accident and she is discriminated against because of it, blood, death, gore, descriptions of torture

Very different

I really loved the idea of revenge for the cads that abused women in those days and got away with it. But when I found out who killed the girl at the beginning of the book I was very upset. I had an inkling but was a little off but what a terrible person. Also I figured out the traitor right away, or Orestes, as he called himself and I was bummed I figured it out. But Seb and Livie were amazing! I have never read this author before but I really loved this book. It was different. The heroine with the limp and the hero with his issues. There were some hard issues in this book and what the H did to his Mothers murderer was hard to read about but It was very an eye for an eye and the guy deserved it. There were parts that confused me a little but this was a very good novel and I can't wait to read more. The heroine is so different and so perfect for The hero. I cant wait to read about Kaitlin.. She stole the epilogue!!! Lol

I really suck at reviews and never know what to say but I don’t want to say nothing. Especially if I really loved the book. What I do know is, I hate when reviewers practically rewrite the whole synopsis in their review. I mean I just read the book...I know what it’s about. Geez..anyway, I am doing better about saying something to let the author know what I thought of the book.

I spend a lot of time researching the books I read. I read 415 books last year and 162 already this year and most were authors I know that will write a good story. Over the last few years I have really worked on discovering new authors. Maddison Michaels is one of those new authors. She only has 5 books and I read 2 in 2018, 2 in 2020 and now this one.

WOW, I wish she wrote more books. I LOVED this book. I loved this story. Actually, my favorite stories are just like this. Duke’s daughter or some member of the ton falling in love with a guy from the Rookeries, St. Giles, etc. It’s so taboo but makes for such a great love story. I couldn’t put this book down. Unfortunately I did have to sleep so couldn't finish in 1 day. I loved the characters and their personalities. They had such great depth of character. I read many books, even ones by my favorite authors, that are too short and even though they are well written, there isn’t a lot of time in the book to dig deeper. Sometimes I do feel like they’ve left more out there. Not Maddison…such a great book. She had me from the first paragraph. Can’t wait for Book 2.

A new-to-me author and not a bad read. I did find the hero's character, Sebastian to be a bit jarring though. He was supposed to have this mafia, godfather persona (he had no qualms about killing), an anti-hero, but the word 'love' was expressed to many times by him and he was a bit too lovey dovey with Olivia, the heroine. He kept winking at her and I don't believe someone with his character would actually do that. As far as anti-heroes go, I would say Kerrigan Byrne Victorian Rebel series has it hands down.
The premise of the story was different though (a whodunit mystery romance). The style of writing and the pacing were good. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.

This one started off very slow for me and took me a while to get into the story. I did definitely like some moments in here, but it did feel just too long and we don’t have the couple actually together for a lot of the story, which just wasn’t my fav. I did like that this is a historical romance with disability rep (heroine has a cane). I also liked the premise of this, basically the heroine is so fed up with men in society getting away with things (ruining women’s reputation, using them, discarding them, etc), that she sets out to end that after her friend winds up dead. The hero is a bit of an antihero and I loved how he has very much “touch her and die” energy, as well as gets pissed when someone dares to take her cane away from her.

This is available on hoopla via audio!

THE BACHELOR BARGAIN is an intriguing historical romantic suspense that features two compelling characters. Olivia (Livie) is a duke's daughter who, at an unmarried 25, is a spinster. She knows that this is likely because of her limp, but she is satisfied with being alone. With her friends of similar undesirability, they are content - that was, until Alice died. Although her death was ruled a suicide, Livie is convinced that she was actually murdered by the man with whom she was having an affair. To uncover the secret and expose this man and those like him, they are determined to start a gazette that will investigate and expose scoundrels.

To bankroll this idea, she must find someone who is willing to be a silent partner. She decides to go to Sebastian Colver, the non-legitimate son of a wealthy man who has risen to become the king of the underground, ruling all of society with the money he has earned, investments made, and the gambling dens he runs. When Livie barges into his office, he is taken off-guard by this attractive and bold woman and decides to make her a bargain.

As they begin their dealings, they are both ending up in the crosshairs, as people seem to want them dead. As they try to figure out who is behind the assassination attempts, everything seems to be escalating - including their attraction.

This was a delightful read with plenty of steam, the right amount of danger, and a fantastic romance. I loved seeing their relationship developed and appreciated the inclusion of both Livie and Sebastian's points-of-view. They both have mental/emotional obstacles stemming from their past that they must move beyond to really begin a relationship, and I appreciated the way that they talk and work through them, while also dealing with the assassins/rival gang, mysteries, and societal pressures.

Although the book does keep the historical context and some of the roles, I appreciated Livie's independence and her ability to decide and go for what she wants. I was also fully vested in the mystery of what happened to Alice and who might be behind the rival gang and threats in the present. The book ends up reading really quickly because of these elements.

Overall, THE BACHELOR BARGAIN was a quick and highly enjoyable historical romantic suspense. Highly recommend for people who like a steamy couple, plenty of intrigue, and mystery and danger around every corner.

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Livie and Seb’s story marks the start of a brand new series, ‘Secrets, Scandals and Spies’, and it really is a tale of two worlds colliding in late Victorian England.

It had so much fun writing their story, where there is mystery and action galore as they go through a whirlwind of adventure, to finally get their HEA. I truly hope you enjoy reading their journey as much as I enjoyed writing it 💕

3.5 stars for this HR series starter! Olivia and her 2 surviving best friends have decided to start a gazette devoted to exposing the missteps, social and criminal, of otherwise-eligible bachelors. Do do this, she needs a financial backer, and she thinks she knows exactly who to approach: Sebastian Calder, crime lord and successful businessman. Not only is he rich, he has a reputation for protecting women and has a chip on his shoulder about the society he was excluded from as the unacknowledged illegitimate son of a duke.

As they work together to begin the gazette, Olivia falls into the middle of a crime syndicate power struggle. she's also trying to solve the mystery surrounding the death of one of her dear friends. This, of course throws them into close proximity with each other. The chemistry between the leads is quite good and develops naturally. If the book feels a bit long at times (there are over 50 good-sized chapters), it's still interesting enough to keep your attention!

Note that the book touches on some dark themes: Olivia's whole reason for contacting Sebastian and starting her Bachelor Bounty Gazette is that one of her best friend's was seduced and abandoned by an unknown cad. Not only that, but the book begins at said friend's funeral. Sebastian, as a crime lord, is a hero on the darker side of the spectrum. He's quite violent and has done unspeakable things to maintain his power and in the name of revenge.

This objective review is based on a complimentary copy of the novel.

The Bachelor Bargain is the exciting first book in a new historical romance series, and I absolutely loved it! The story has a lot of action, intrigue, romance, and two fantastic main characters. I love Sebastian, the bad guy with a heart of gold. He is fierce and protective and strong, and though he has done some terrible things, he is a good man. Livie is smart, independent, and strong. I love her take-charge personality and her unrelenting determination to find out what happened to her deceased friend.

Livie is not daunted by the strict dictates of society, and she hates that there are so many inequities between men and women. I also love that she and her friends are so invested in exposing the hypocrisy of the upper-class men. She refuses to let them get away with using, abusing, and manipulating others for their own personal gain, and she and her friends create a newspaper that reveals all of the men’s misdeeds. Though she knows that what she is doing is dangerous and puts her life at risk, Livie is persistent and unwilling to stop.

Livie also sees past people’s facades to find the true person underneath. This is definitely the case when she meets Sebastian, who is feared by many. Livie sees past his reputation as the Bastard of Baker Street and finds the generous and good man underneath. That’s not to say she is unaware of his faults and misdeeds, but Livie sees the whole person, not just the small snippets that others see.

I adore Sebastian, the bad boy with a heart of gold. Sebastian is not afraid to get his hands dirty, and he is dangerous. However, he is also a man who helps and protects others. His intentions are not always clear, which makes him a bit mysterious and intriguing. What I really love is how he responds to Livie. He sees her strength and intelligence and wants to aid her, not constrict her. He embraces her uniqueness and encourages and supports her business prowess. He definitely has much admiration for Livie, even though (and possibly because) she doesn’t conform to the dictates of society. Most of all, he doesn’t treat her as less than because of her gender and disability, unlike most of the other people in her life. He, like Live, sees past her facade. They make such an amazing pair.

Though Sebastian and Livie are from totally different worlds, they are well-suited. Both are smart and savvy, both feel compelled to help others, and both fight the wrongs of society, albeit in very different ways. I think both feel like they don’t quite fit in and that no one really understands them. Also, Livie is one of the few people who is unafraid of Sebastian, and this unsettles and intrigues him. Though surrounded by people, both seem rather alone until they find each other. They have amazing chemistry, and I adored their flirty and querulous banter. Unfortunately, many obstacles stand in their way.

Sebastian and Livie are from two different worlds, which makes it near impossible for them to be together. Also, Sebastian and Livie are both afraid to love. They are both haunted by their pasts and things that happened to people they loved, and their fear holds them back. Sebastian also worries because he has a reputation that could endanger anyone close to him. He refuses to risk Livie’s life, even though he wants her. Of course, their connection is impossible to resist, and Livie and Seabastian must face their feelings and the threats on their life if they want to be together.

The chemistry between Livie and Sebastian is absolutely swoon-worthy, and the intrigue is suspenseful. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can’t wait for the next one in this new and addictive series!! Thanks so much to Entangled: Amara, the author, and Grey’s Promotions for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I just finished The Bachelor Bargain and the only word I can think of to write down is Wow! This was so good. Recently I’ve read a few historical romances with heroes that weren’t always good guys and sometimes they felt like anti-heroes. And then Sebastian Colver walked into my life and he is everything I didn’t know I wanted in my anti-hero.
Ok to start off this is my first Maddison Michaels book and it will not be my last. In fact, I’ll be starting The Bachelor Betrayal right away. But I digress, I was so invested in these characters. Lady Olivia is a fantastic, complex character with courage to spare. Sebastian Colver is the leader of London’s “underworld” and he has the power, money and intimidation to prove it.
The story starts off with Olivia grieving her friend and seeking revenge on the man that ruined her. She and her best friends decide to start a gazette and call out the horrible men who use and abuse women. But they need money and they can’t ask their male family members so Livie goes to the Bastard of Baker Street for the financing.
Not surprisingly she’s not afraid of him, he finds that super attractive and he’s the only man who doesn’t treat her differently because of her limp. Craziness ensues before the first paper is even published! There was so much drama that I couldn’t put it down.
I’m going to say it again, this was so, so, so good. It will live rent free in my brain for weeks.

dnf at 46% 🙃

It started of great, really really great - the banter was sizzling, the premise intriguing and the main characters interesting. And then, all of a sudden, it all turned into one big pile of meh.
I do remember someone comparing this to Stacy Reid's "Her Wicked Marquess" and I gotta tell you folks, that was a gross overstatement 😅

I have not really enjoyed the other books written by this author but this one was surprising.

The chemistry between Olivia and Sebastian was amazing. The sexual chemistry didn’t lose either. It was amusing to see them argue, be sassy to one another, kiss then argue all over again. I liked that despite the fact that both of them were so stubborn and drove each other crazy, their personalities were not annoying.

Olivia was a very strong and independent woman, and yet was a little careless with her safety at times, despite Sebastian’s many warnings. However, I liked that she was able to stand up to Sebastian and treat him so familiarly—something no one else would ever dare to do.

Sebastian was a great guy. Though he may be brutal in his punishments, he protects those under his “wing” and that included Olivia. It was heartwarming to see him let Olivia in and see Olivia let Sebastian in into each other’s hearts.

If I had to pick weak points for this book, it would be that the action took up a little too much of the story and bored me a little & that there was only one sex scene—too little. Nevertheless, it was a nice journey to be on with them. The epilogue wrapped everything up nicely.

The Bachelor Bargain is the first book in the series Secrets, Scandals, and Spies by Maddison Michaels. It’s a historical romance which is one of my favorite genres, so I couldn’t wait to dive in and see what wickedness awaited me!! Ms. Michaels did not fail to deliver.

Sebastian Colver, Bastard of Baker Street, is gorgeous, daring, and feared by all that know of him. His counter, Lady Olivia, thinks herself an unattractive lady that no one would want…but her attitude definitely doesn’t match what she feels her physical experience shows! And she is on a hunt to find who killed her friend. But with no money to help in the process, she comes along none other than Sebastian himself. Making a deal with the devil is the last think Olivia wanted to do…but she knows she needs money to help find Alice’s killer. And so what if Sebastian is gorgeous? He’d never be interested in her anyway?

The two together are dynamic. They feed off each other and the chemistry is sizzling hot. Twists and turns throughout had me engrossed through the whole read. Can’t wait for the next in the series!!

Its been awhile since I've read a historical romance and The Bachelor Bargain was fun, delightful tale that I fully enjoyed. This is the 1st book in the Secrets, Scandals and Spies series and my 1st Maddison Michaels novel. I loved the storyline. It was filled with intrigue, romance, action, suspense and some danger. The characters were well written. Lady Olivia and Sebastian made a incredible pairing even though they were from opposite places in society. I loved the witty back and forth banter between these two as it made for some entertaining reading . The story was well paced and flowed smoothly. I loved that we got both characters POV and I enjoyed seeing their relationship slowly develop while solving a mystery. This was an excellent read and I would highly recommend it to lovers of historical romance.

Maddison Michaels starts off this new series of hers, Secrets, Scandals, and Spies, with a fabulous and exciting first book, The Bachelor Bargain!! Honestly, once I started reading it, I had a hard time putting the book down because there's so much going on and you don't want to waste your time doing something else! lol The two main characters, Seb and Livie, from two different worlds in society, should never have even met but circumstances deems it necessary and from then on, their lives will never be the same again. I love how she stands up to him:)

This author's style of writing makes sure your interest is at an all time high throughout the book and not only do you get mystery, danger, traitors, etc, you also get a romance that will curl your toes and make your heart beat a little bit faster:)

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I just LOVE historical underground organized crime stories with mystery. Plus an added bonus for both main characters are handicapped for reasons you will have TO read to find out. Sebastian finds out he will do anything for Livvie. I just love the detailed scenes and all the characters are unique. I totally didn't see the "who done it" coming! I look forward to more in this series!

Olivia and her friends, Kaitlyn and Etta were not the usual ladies of their day. Kaitlyn, in particular has some very unusual skills and had been teaching her friends how to defend themselves. Olivia is determined to discover the truth about her friend’s death. Sebastian is the king of the underworld and is very much the darkness to Olivia’s light. Their romance was not without problems including the knowledge that they would eventually have to walk away from each other. I just hoped they would somehow have a happy ending. There are a number of things happening in this story, secrets to be revealed, mysteries to solve and dangerous situations. I really enjoyed this captivating story, so many things to discover that it kept my interest until the end. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

WOW this one is packed with so much action as well as a sensual romance, fabulous characters and I loved it from page one, I have been looking forward to another Maddison Michaels story for a while now and this one did not disappoint, wonderfully written it brings to life The Bastard of Baker Street Sebastian Colver and the beautiful strong Lady Olivia Haliford in a must read story that will have you on the edge of your seat at times, can two people from totally different backgrounds find love and happiness?

Lady Olivia (Livie) a Duke’s daughter is fed up with the way the bachelors of the world are getting away with literally murder at times and she and her friends Kat and Etta are determined to make it change by producing, anonymously, a gazette and dish out all the dirt on some of these bachelors to warn the woman of England, but first they need financial backing and Livie knows just the person to ask, Sebastian Colver the bastard of Baker Street.

Sebastian is feared throughout London as a man to stay away from leader of the baker street gang he has made a name for himself as well as a fortune and mixes with the ton these days, he is stunned when the beautiful lady Olivia makes her entrance into his office to request help with her gazette, she is not afraid of him at all where most people are and he agrees to help as a silent partner if she too will help him with sponsoring his sister into society, he has no clue that his life will change so much when his heart is in danger of falling for Livie.

This story is just so good I loved the pull that Livie and Sebastian had from their first meeting, you could almost feel the heat between them, they both feel strongly about the way woman are treated and even though Sebastian is a feared man I loved him so much he has a heart of gold where needed but believe me he can be very fierce as well and Livie my word what a strong beautiful caring woman she is and not afraid to stand up for what she feels. There is lots of danger in this one as the bad guys are after Sebastian and Livie and it had me holding my breath at times.

To see them find their much deserved HEA was sigh worthy after all they have been through, this is one that I would highly recommend to any lover of historical romance with a big side of suspense thrown in and I look forward to the next one in this series, there are so many fabulous characters in this one I look forward to getting to know them.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy to read and review

* Themes, imagery, and content may be a trigger for some readers. Discussion of physical abuse, rape, suicide, and death appear within the novel. Scenes depicting graphic violence/death also appear. they could be considered triggering to you, please take note.

The Bachelor Bargain, by Maddison Michaels. Oh wow! I can not say enough of how much I love this book. Maddison Michaels has written a splendid story of two lovers from different sides of the tracks. The author has given her readers a love story that has left a wonderful impact for my love of reading historical romance novels.
I was pulled in by the entertainment. The drama. The romance and the action. And let me say this, the action was wickedly awesome. I mean Livie, whose the love interest of Seb.
She was a beast with a cane. This woman is bold, fierce, brave, intelligent. I mean the list can go on on. Kate, her partner was the creator of said beast. Kate shares the same quality of skills that Livie masters with ease.
Seb, I mean the man is a rogue, whose powerful dominance and devil may care attitude was phenomenal. I absolutely loved his character. I can not say enough about this man. He literally ruled with an iron fist, but he loved and cared with the softest heart. Did I say the drama reads like a movie?
Well it did. I was totally glued to this book. From beginning to end the drama and action didn’t stop. Of course in between the flirting between Livie and Seb was a pleasure to read. It brought some good excitement to the book, which made the pacing of the book move with ease.
My fellow readers, I give this book this book two snaps and a twist. Until next time my my fellow readers… read on!

Lady Olivia Haliford has had enough. Tired of seeing women lose their reputations, futures, and sometimes even their lives to scandal while the men walk free, she is ready to take back power and stand up for women everywhere. Along with her two closest friends Etta & Kat, she plans to start an anonymous publication dedicated to dishing the dirt and exposing the secrets of society’s most eligible bachelors. But in order to do so, she will have to make a deal with the devil. Sebastian Colver, is feared throughout London as the city’s most notorious gambling den owner and undisputed king of the underground. His life is nothing but darkness and danger, so he is shocked when the petite lady gracing his doorstep seems anything but frightened of him. He agrees to be a silent partner in the publishing of the Gazette if she will use her connections to sponsor his sister Charlotte and launch her into Society and away from his dark world.
The start of an eagerly awaited new series by the author & it was well worth the wait. I was captivated from cover to cover. I'm an avid reader of historical romances but also love a good mystery & this wonderful book ticked both boxes add wonderful characters & I was one very happy reader. I loved both Sebastian & Livie, he’s the scarred, ruthless underworld boss & she's the duke's daughter who isn’t afraid to go head to head with him. I adored that he saw past Livie's limp & saw the strong woman she was, after all she's already tamed the Dragon Duchess. The chemistry between the pair was electric & they both fell hard & fast for each other, however their verbal bantering was a highlight. I also loved Livie's family & friends who were loving & supportive, I was in tears when they waltzed. Then there's the mystery of who is targeting Sebastian & especially Livie & I loved the twists & turns, all the time wondering who Sebastian could trust. I highly recommend this book & I'm now eagerly awaiting the rest of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

I haven't read a Historical Romance in a long time so it was a pleasure to read Bachelor Bargain by Maddison Michaels

Lady Olivia (Livie) Haliford has decided to set up a newspaper with her two friends, determined to expose the gentleman in society that hide dirty little secrets and expect to get away with it. However being women and wanting to do this anonymously they must find a silent partner and who Olivia has in mind in non other than The King of Baker Street himself 😊.
Sebastian Colver has worked himself up from the slums of London, he is now one of the wealthiest men around and has had to work for everything he has to make sure he will never know what it's like to feel hunger or desperation again. Being the illegitimate son of a Duke means he doesn't belong in society, he has seen and done things that most would be appalled by but that works in his favour because now he is feared by everyone and no-one would cross him. That is until he meets Lady Olivia, who is bold enough to barge through his office in hopes that he will become a silent partner for her newspaper.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts, they see past things that others may see as flaws instantly. Livie has never felt wanted before until Seb comes into her life and I'm so glad he did because she deserved to be adored. There some scenes that I had to re-read more than once because the put a smile on my face and made my heart melt. Olivia knew exactly how to break down Seb's walls and shown him that is it OK to love, even though he was stubborn at times.

I loved that while we got to watch their lvoe story bloom, we also had a murder to solve as well which lead onto so many twists and I couldn't get enough of it. I'm a huge fan of a thriller, this teamed up with romance and based in 1885 and I was in my element.
Would highly recommend and I am extremely excited for the next book that will be with us this year 🥰👌.

4.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌠

I'm not a big historical romance reader, but I love Maddison Michaels novels and was excited to get a copy of her new novel Bachelor Bargain to read.

Bachelor Bargain didn't disappoint, it was a great read with two main characters I really enjoyed getting to know. Lady Olivia Haliford (Livie) is a smart, determined and tough young lady who wants justice for her friend's demise and will go to whatever lengths necessary to get them.

Sebastian Colver, The Bastard of Baker Street is a feared individual and for good reason. He is also a good man, one who cares greatly about others, though he has trust issues even with those in his inner circle, and hides behind his reputation.

Olivia decides it is his help she needs to finance her paper which will call out no good bachelors and enable her to find the man responsible for her friend's death.

I loved the interaction between these two, both from totally different backgrounds, neither of them were prepared for the other in more ways than one. Sebastian certainly didn't expect to catch feelings for this beautiful, strong young woman who put herself in danger in her pursuit of justice far too many times for his liking. Olivia is also not happy about her attraction to Sebastian, but no matter what happens, these two can't fight the chemistry that is between them.

There was plenty of wheeling and dealing, twists galore, humour and of course romance and this novel kept me reading well past my bedtime.

Thank you to Entangled: Amara Publishing and NetGalley for a digital copy of this novel in return for an honest review.

I don't generally keep a top 10 of books that I have read in a year but if I did then I do not doubt that The Bachelor Bargain would be high in that list.
While this is very much a unique read, it does bring to mind Bridgerton and Peaky Blinders. This is great praise from me as I am a fan of both.
When one of Lady Olivia's closest friends, Alice is found dead it sets in motion an amazing set of events that make up this brilliant story.
I loved how each part of the plot fitted together to create a puzzle that came together as the story progressed. While this is a historical romance, it also falls firmly into the suspense genre too. There are several pieces to the puzzle that, while I did guess one piece, the rest kept me guessing and delivered some big surprises.
There are some great characters. Not only Olivia and on the other end of the society spectrum, the dangerously delicious Sebastian, but everyone that we get to know from around them. One of my favourite characters has a relatively small role in this book, but she made a huge impact and I hope to read her story. Lady Kaitlyn Montrose, one of Olivia's closest and loyal friends will definitely stay with me. The story is just packed with interesting characters who I cannot wait to learn more about.
For me The Bachelor Bargain delivered on all fronts and I am so pleased to have discovered this series.

The Bachelor Bargain by Maddison Michaels is the first in her new “Secrets, Scandals and Spies” series. This was my first read of the author and I was not disappointed. This romantic tale of mystery and suspense, with secret identities and a couple of twists is played out by a cast of truly intriguing characters. Sebastian and Lady Olivia come from opposite ends of the social spectrum and both have such strength of character. I enjoyed reading their story, as they found themselves struggling with their growing feelings, while trying to do what was right for their complex situation. I look forward to reading future installments and finding out what is in store for the rest of the group.

I couldn't put it down!

This is a different sides of the tracks story, with a who done it story that has real backbone and a natural growth of love between the two main characters. Lady Olivia is out to find out what really happened to one of her best friends, she has to go to the "dark side" and enlist Sebastian's help.. or wears him down until he helps?!? I loved the world building, and all the characters, I hope there are more books that include Olivia's friends. I had many guesses/ theories while reading about the mysteries in the book, and was wrong about all of my guesses, which makes that book more enjoyable.

A great read that doesn't slow down at all, and hoping for more in this series.

It’s been a few months since I last read a historical romance, and delving back into this genre certainly did not disappoint. Not only is this book an incredible love story, but it also treats us to not one but two mysteries, which will keep you on your toes right up until the very end.

And talk about opposites attract!! Sebastian Colver, known as the Bastard of Baker Street is the leader of one of the most feared gangs in London, and when he decides to help Lady Olivia Haliford, a Duke’s daughter who is somewhat of an outcast in society due to an unfortunate accident in her childhood that left her with a limp, the sparks that fly between them is addictive, and their undeniable chemistry keeps you wanting to read more and more.

Sebastian is first and foremost a protector - a protector of his underground world and The Rookeries, protector of his sister and his closest friends, and protector of Olivia, who very quickly becomes a permanent fixture in his head and in his heart.

Although he has a fearsome reputation, Olivia isn’t afraid of Sebastian and her baiting of him throughout the book leads to some absolutely delicious moments 🥰 The slow build of sexual tension between these two is scorching and this book has one of the best endings and HEA’s I’ve read in a long time. I can’t wait to read more of this series!

I really loved this book. So much so that all my distractions and stresses were more aggravating because I wanted to just get back to the book.

I loved the characters the most. Sebastian ( truly love that name) and Olivia are so engaging, in my opinion. I cared for Olivia from the opening pages. And Seb was just such a bad boy ( on the surface anyway) that I was pulled in.

Cried at the end chapters. Which is always a clear sign I loved a book.
