PacWest Conference Announces Schedules for Basketball, Soccer

IRVINE, Calif. – On Wednesday morning, the PacWest Conference announced the recently approved league schedules for soccer and basketball for the upcoming season, with athletics resuming in January. Fresno Pacific will compete as part of the league's Northern California pod along with Holy Names, Academy of Art, and Dominican.

"We are excited to see this season finally be able to get off the ground with a conference schedule. So many people have worked tirelessly and diligently for months to create this opportunity for our students," Director of Athletics Aaron Henderson said. "Our staff and student-athletes have been patient and continued to work hard to meet and exceed expectations when it was not easy to do that, and we are really looking forward to seeing our athletes competing in a safe environment once again."

The Sunbird basketball programs have been in action for the entire month of December and are meeting all COVID safety requirements and protocols set forth by the NCAA, the state of California and the Fresno County Public Health Department. More information on FPU's safety and testing protocols can be found here, including specifics on how all participating student-athletes will be tested during the spring semester. Beginning in January, all teams will be consistently testing and following all recommended protocols put forth by the necessary governing bodies.

Basketball
Each of the pod's four teams will play one another four times in men's and women's basketball, making up a 12-game league schedule that features six sets of back-to-back games against the same opponent. The conference schedule is set to open on Jan. 22 with a visit to Holy Names before the Hawks make the return trip to Fresno the next evening. The final week of the regular season is still open, providing teams flexibility to add non-conference games or schedule potential make-up games.
