Growing up in a house full of brothers, it’s not a surprise that Alana Ashton is the princess of Hope Crest.

Being the only female of the small town’s founding family means that while she usually gets her way, she has to work doubly hard to earn and keep respect. Veering from her expected path to follow crazy dreams, like opening her own shop, not only isn’t in the cards, it’s also not taken seriously. So when her best friend, the ex-high school quarterback with a smile of gold and a traumatic past, proposes marriage out of the blue after years of Alana not-so-secretly pining after him, the answer isn’t an automatic no.

Marrying him, and the fortune they’ll both inherit if she specifically says I do, could be just the thing to set her vision in motion. But can she keep their decades-long relationship strictly business, or will those long unrequited feelings fool her into thinking this union will be for life?

Warren Teal is the orphan no one wanted but everyone speculated about.

After his father tragically took his mother from him, Warren’s story has been broadcast in the media for years. Cue the Ashtons, who took him under their wings the first time Alana brought him home in middle school. Years later, Hope Crest’s royal family offered him a job at their renowned restaurant, and Warren thought he’d found the quiet, under-the-radar life he’d always been searching for.

Until the day he received a letter leaving him a fortune. There was just one catch; he must marry to receive it. And not just anyone, but the gorgeous, stubborn woman he’d always loved in secret but never felt worthy of. Knowing he could return the favor and grant her wildest dreams, he popped the question.

But when his past comes for the future they’re building, she gets caught in the crossfires of the danger and darkness meant for him. Divorce, and breaking his own heart, seem like the only options to keep her safe.

Even if doing so means he may never get to confess that their fake marriage is the realest love he’s ever experienced.

Being the only girl in her family, Alana Ashton has to work twice as hard to get respect and earn the things she wants. She’s worked for her family’s business for years and has dreams of spreading her own wings. Unfortunately, that just doesn’t seem to be in the cards for her. That is until her best friend presents her with an offer that’s impossible to refuse. The only catch, they have to get married…

Honeyed is an unforgettable best friends to lovers, marriage of convenience romance that will capture readers' hearts instantly. Warren and Alana have amazing chemistry and it’s no wonder that they are best friends. I loved that both Warren and Alana secretly pined for one another, but never acted on it until fate intervened. It was at that moment that I knew I was in for a real treat and I couldn’t wait for their story to play out.

Honeyed is a fabulous small-town romance that completely captivated my heart. I was hooked from page one and found myself unable to read fast enough. If you’re looking for a small-town, best friends to lovers, marriage-of-convenience romance that’s filled with heart and family, you won’t want to miss this read. I had the best time getting swept up in Alana and Warren’s story and can not wait to see where the Ashton Family series will go next.

Honeyed is the second book in Carrie's Ashton Family series.

Alana and Warren's is a slow burn in some ways. Alana and Warren have known each other since they were young but never really acted or talked about their feelings for one another. And as adults they find themselves in a situation they never could have imagined.

I will state that it took me a bit to really get into this book as Carrie did her best to lay the groundwork of the background of these two characters. Warren made decisions as a young adult that has been weighing heavily on himself.

As I stated, this is a slow burn romance between Alana and Warren. Their emotional connection is much stronger than their physical and you see that throughout this book. The passion between one another is there, it's just not as prominent as their emotional one.

Overall, I did enjoy this book and it has stuck with me way past after I finished it. While I didn't feel the hot passionate love, I could feel their emotional connectivity and I enjoyed Alana and Warren's story.

Thank you Carrie Aarons and Grey’s Promotions for this ARC.

I wanna yell from the rooftops about how much I enjoyed this book. This is my second book of Carrie’s and the second one of her Ashton Family series and this series just keeps getting better for each book it seems.

Being the only girl in a family of boys Alana has always had to work double as hard to earn the respect and work for the stuff she wants more than her brothers. With her family seeing her as the little girl of the family, she truly wants to step out of that shell and be her own person for once. When Warren her best friend who she has been in love with for a long time presents her with a proposal that’s almost too hard to refuse and that would give her that freedom she desperately wants, she says yes, but the only catch is that they have to get married to do so.

The marriage of convenience trope always hits for me and pair that with the childhood friends to lovers and the small town tropes then I’m completely sold. The fact that Alana and Warren who have been secretly pinning for each other for ages, finally get together in some type of way by getting fake married just made my heart burst. The tension and the banter was just incredible and the way they finally let into all the pinned up emotions they had been both holding onto for such a long time was done very well.

I can’t wait for the next sibling in the series to get their love story and I just know it’s gonna be as fantastic as the first two, because Carrie just knows her craft.

Another great story for this series!!

Honeyed is the second book in the Ashton Family Series by Carrie Aarons, featuring a friends to lovers, marriage of convenience romance with suspense for Alana and Warren. Alana Ashton has two dreams. One is to have her best friend Warren love her back, and the other is to open her own storefront, since her old-fashioned father refuses to take her ideas seriously. Both goals seem hopelessly out of reach, until Warren comes to her with a proposition. He’s come into an inheritance with strings, and he needs her help, and her hand in marriage. Can they maintain the charade, or will their feelings finally overwhelm the walls Warren has built between them? When danger comes calling, will they be able to weather the storm together?

I’ve been looking forward to this story ever since I read Bittersweet! Warren’s backstory is so tragic, and the way it continues to affect him broke my heart. As much as I felt for him, I wanted to shake him a bit, too, for showing more respect to Thomas than Alana for so long, and denying his own feelings as well because of it. I understand why he did it. He was a boy in search of a good father figure, but still it frustrated me. Needless to say, I was not a fan of Thomas for much of the book, but he added to the drama and interest, but that’s one of the things I love about family sagas. The dynamics are complex, and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows inside a large family. I admired Alana’s strength and the way she stood up for herself and Warren, and I loved the two of the together—both in that friendship connection, then in the romantic sense as well! They were definitely meant to be! The suspense aspect kept me guessing an on my toes throughout and was an intriguing layer to the story. I can’t wait for Liam and Gabrielle’s book!

Growing up as the only daughter of the Ashton family, Alana always had to work twice as hard to achieve her dreams. While she has worked for her family’s business for years, she now wishes to spread her own wings. But unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be in the card for her. Cue her best friend Warren, who proposes they get married to help both of them out.

I think the Ashton Family series has quickly become one of my favourites from Carrie Aarons. The first book was great, but I enjoyed the chemistry between the protagonists here even more. I've read a bunch of best friends-to-lovers stories, where one of the characters has secretly pined for the other but not vice versa. I loved that both Warren and Alana held feelings for each other for years but never intervened; to see the story unfold was so much fun.

Honeyed has everything going for it: it's a small-town romance with best friends to lovers who have swoon-worthy chemistry, which will put you up for a fun ride. I was hooked from the start and didn't put the book down. I can't wait to see where the series will go next.

Honeyed by Carrie Aarons is the second book in the Ashton Family series and is a friends to lovers, marriage of convenience romance that was emotional and touching and had me turning the pages. Alana wants to open her own business but has not been able to. Her family loves her, but do not always take her seriously. Warren, her best friend, broke my heart with his story. His life has been marred with tragedy. He has recently found out he has an inheritance, but it comes with strings. Now he can get his inheritance and allow Alana to achieve her dreams. But what happens when they can no longer hide how they truly feel for each other?

I truly enjoyed reading this small-town romance. I loved how much they cared for each other and had each other’s back. They were so strong together. Add in family, a bit of suspense, and a couple with steamy chemistry and a connection and I was captivated from start to finish.

Happy reading!

Honeyed is the second book in the Ashton series, and I was thoroughly satisfied with this story of Alana and Warren.

It is a wonderful friends to lovers and marriage of convenience story, that throws in some twists and turns throughout the plot and Alana and Warren’s journey. Take their friendship, a tension filled one with hidden feelings, and throw in a need to get married to receive an inheritance and you get Alana and Warren living in the same house as a married couple.

While it takes a while to figure out what they each want and how not to hurt each, you see Alana as a strong-willed woman with a desire to protect and guard the troubled Warren. Warren is extremely determined to protect Alana from her family and the world around them. Page after page you are drawn in to their love and passion for one another.

I would highly recommend reading this book, and it’s great because it’s part of a series but also acts as a Stand Alone. I absolutely love it and believe you will too!!

Honeyed is the second standalone book in the Ashton Family series and tells the story of Alana and Warren.

After reading the first book in the Ashton Family series, I was really looking forward to reading about the next sibling in the Ashton family. The second book, Honeyed, talks about Alana and Warran, Alana is the only daughter in the Ashton family. I really enjoyed reading Honeyed, it didn't take me long to finish this book. The story has a nice pace and you can easily read for hours in this book. I really enjoy a lot of Romance tropes and this one has a few like small town romance, childhood best friend, fake marriage, ...

Honeyed is about Alana and Warren. Alana and Warren have been friends since they were young but they never talked about their feelings for each other. Even when Warren suggests a fake mariage so he can inherit a furtune, they don't talk about their feelings... I love how they slowly opened up to each other and finally admitted what they've been hiding/feeling. On top of the romance, there's also some drama and suspense, which I really liked.

Honeyed was another great Romance read written by Carrie Aarons. Carrie Aarons is a talented author and she can write amazing Romance books. She can write different tropes, and she always creates interesting stories and characters. Honeyed was an amazing Small Town Romance and if you enjoy reading book series with standalone books, then I definitely recommend the Ashton Family  series!

Alana and her best friend Warren may be in a fight and haven't been speaking lately, but they've always been there for each other when needed. So when Warren's dad passes away, of course Alana's there for him, with him at his side where she belongs. Now he comes to her with a marriage of convenience proposal, which is a way for them to both get something they want. Can she really do this? Be in a fake marriage with the man she has always been in love with, but who refuses to step over the line of friendship with her?

Warren's always loved his best friend, but always knew he wasn't good enough for her. A discussion with her dad cemented it, and it's been in his head ever since. But when he needs a marriage of convenience from her, will she do it? Can he do it, be married to the woman he's in love with, but will inevitably have to divorce?

Oh Warren, sigh... Warren had so much eating up space in his head that it's a wonder he ever managed to get anything across to Alana. Honestly she must have been a saint to put up with his non-communicative ass, but he has a heart of gold so I can understand how and why she had always been in love with him. Friends to lovers can sometimes lack the passion a strangers to lovers or an enemies to lovers or even a second chance relationship can have, and that is and isn't the case here. I do believe they love each other, are in love with each other, but their chemistry at times feels a bit, I don't know...underwhelming? I'm not sure I'm saying it correctly, but let's just say the physical aspect isn't as strongly communicated as the emotional. But generally speaking, this is a sweet, slightly melancholy friends to lovers story. I really like both Warren and Alana, really, really felt for Warren and his backstory, and am glad to be back with the Ashton family again, even if the chemistry between these two friends isn't as strong as it could be.

This is the second book in the Ashton family series and this time we get the vibrant, strong willed daughter of the Ashton family.

As the only daughter, the so called princess surrounded by three brothers, Alana is not laid back nor is she docile. Alana is extremely hard working and has earned just as much respect as her brothers for running the family business, well at least among her brothers, her dad is still a work in progress. I was hoping for a little more progression with that man in this book, but he's still stubborn as ever.

As for Alana, I loved her hard working ethics and that she doesn't back down from anyone, except when it comes to her best friend Warren Teal. I was a bit crestfallen at times that she didn't speak her mind like she did with everyone else in her life, but I also think she was so used to the heartache around him as well. Sort of like a constant bruise she didn't even know she had so she didn't realize she acted a certain way, if that makes sense.

Everyone in the small town of Hope Crest knows Warren Teal. While he's had many labels during the time he's lived there and would like to forget most of them, the one that is his favorite is as Alana's best friend. As much as he wants it to be more, he's never crossed that line and there is a host of reasons why.

Alana and Warren have circled around the friendship line, just hovering at the possibility of feeling more than friendship, for years. There are a lot of things that have held them back from crossing that line, but when Warren gets an ultimatum that forces him to finally marry Alana, it's the push he needed, but is it the dream she wanted?

While I loved this premise, because I love a good friends to lovers story, I wasn’t completely sold on their chemistry. These two have been friends, best friends, for almost two decades, but there were so many times they acted like strangers. I mean, I understand some awkwardness, but these two have both wanted each other for years. They just ran hot and cold even after they should have been blazing, if you get my drift. Personally, it just threw me, especially for Alana who is such a strong willed character. Personally, I was stunned that she let the relationship simmer even a little.

As for Warren, I did end up understanding where he came from and why he held back so much as the story progresses, even when I felt frustrated initially wanting him to push for more. I realize it's not always on the guys end to make that jump, which is why I was expecting a little more from Alana, but digging deeper into Warren did help understand his deeper feelings vs. just hearing over and over that they weren't speaking again from Alana. She seemed to hover in avoidance land a lot. Come on girl, empower yourself!

Okay, moving on...If we move over the fact that Thomas seems to hold a grudge against anyone who is not already an Ashton, then everyone one else is fun, easily likable, and most of all I adore Nonna the most of all. She makes falling in love very cute and always brings a blush to everyone's faces. Do I wish these two would have pulled it together a little quicker, of course, but it wouldn't have been their story if they did. So in the end, I'm still happy they figured it out. A 4.5 read overall.

This is a new to me author and I am loving this small town series! The series portrays the Ashton family, who are like royals in this town, Hope Crest, located on the side of the Delaware River. They own a worldwide famous Italian restaurant called Hope Pizza. The first book portrayed the second oldest son Patrick with former actress Cassandra; this one is a best friends to lovers portraying the only daughter of the Ashton family, Alana, with Warren Teal.

Warren and Alana have been best friends since sixth grade and the family embraced him. He comes from a tragic past, where his father murdered his mother and want away to prison for a life sentence. He was adopted by an older, wealthy couple but they didn’t know how to deal with a traumatized young child, so enter the Ashton loud and loving family, who gave him all the love and acceptance he craved.

When his adoptive father died, he left all his belongings to Warren with the caveat he marry Alana. Read the book to understand why! They agree to marry but in name only. Warren is respecting a deal he made with Alana’s father and is keeping away from a marital relation.

These two certainly had a stormy relationship once they married! Full of regret, guilt, yearning, and simple horniness. They are so full of feelings that it’s hard to communicate; add in all the family dynamics and you have a hot kettle. There’s a menacing presence in town in the form of a videographer who wants to portray Warren’s family tragedy, awakening all of Warren’s buried trauma and bad memories.

I love that the family surrounds the couple like the circling of wagons in cowboy stories. The only negative in this is the patriarch, Thomas Ashton. He’s a pigheaded, stubborn man who adheres to old-fashioned values and he’s extra hard with Alana, making her jump through more hoops than he demands from her brothers. I found him frankly horrible, same as he was in the first book. His attitude with Cass was despicable, and in this case, he was just as reprehensible in his actions, both to Warren and to Alana.

I loved Alana’s and Warren’s road to fulfillment, to the culmination of their love story and Warren’s realization that he wasn’t alone, he had a woman who loved him above everything and was there for him for the good times and the bad times. I also noticed that this author writes strong female characters and not-so-strong male characters. Alana was a passionate life force, and Warren was more laid back and accepting. They were a perfect combination, like he was yin to her yan. It was passionate, stormy, suspenseful, super entertaining, with very nice and yummy sexy scenes. I loved Warren and Alana and all their family, even cranky Liam, except for Thomas. Now on to the next, hoping it’s cranky Liam!

I loved reading Alana and Warren's story, in the previous books they had some interesting interactions so I was really excited to read their story. They were best friends for years and they always loved each other but thanks to Warren's connection to Alana's family, he never wanted to take the next step and fight for Alana's love. Warren never really had good parental figures until Alana's parents so he didn't want to let them down, but after his adoptive father died and asked him to marry Alana he knew they could have a chance to finally face all the feelings they held back all those years.

Alana was the only girl among her brothers so she was the princess of the family but I still loved that she stood up to herself and knew what she wanted to do, her dad was hesitant at first but she never gave up and getting married to Warren allowed her to finally have the storefront she wanted. She loved Warren for years but thanks to his respect for her parents she only had to have him as a friend until he asked her to get married to get his adoptive father's inheritance. At first, things were awkward between them but Alana knew the money could help them and also help August, a waitress at her family's pizza shop so they finally decided to open up about their feelings and understand why they never had the opportunity to explore their relationship as more than friends.

Warren's past was a rough one so he did everything to be the good guy and prove to everyone that he wasn't like his father. He always loved Alana but he never allowed his feelings for her to be known, even though all of her family knew what they felt for each other. They had some time apart but they never really were far from each other and Alana always tried to be there for Warren when things got bad. When they got married they had some ups and downs but I loved how they acted out on their feelings and finally decided to take a chance on their love. Their friendship was wonderful from the start so it was nice reading how effortless it was for them to admit their love and just be there for each other.

Their story was very captivating and it was an easy read so I was hooked from the start, the story also had a bit of suspense that definitely made it more interesting and I loved how Alana's family was there for them whenever they needed it. I also loved reading how Warren and Alana's friendship finally grew into the relationship they always wanted and how despite everything, they still supported each other's dreams.

The Ashton family has been really captivating and I've been loving the banter between the siblings and reading about their family business, they all have been amazing so I can't wait to read Liam and Gabrielle's story next and just see more of all the Ashton clan.

Honeyed is the second book in Carrie Aaron’s small town romance series - The Ashton Family. This book is told in dual POV and is Warren and Alana’s story. While you could read this one on its own, I definitely recommend reading the first book in the series because we get a lot of background information on these two characters. I was immediately drawn to this couple from the get go. It’s so easy to see how head over heels in love they are with each other and I couldn’t understand why they weren’t already together. Alana is the pampered princess, the only daughter of an influential family in a small town. She could easily coast through life, but I love that she wanted more, that she wanted her own legacy. She’s a perfect mix of sassy and vulnerable. She loves hard, and is fiercely independent. She’s definitely a relatable character and you want all the good things for her. Warren Teal is that quintessential Hallmark character that has that golden retriever energy. He seems like he has it all, but his life has been more Crime Doc than Hallmark. My heart just aches for him and it’s so easy to have a soft spot for him. He is truly a good guy and deserves more than what he’s been given. Fate is a fickle thing and it seems determined to keep these two apart even though it’s easy to see they are end game. The chemistry is insane and I love how they are truly best friends before anything else. I loved seeing the layers pulled back to see how complex and complicated everything is for them. The marriage of convenience trope was done well, thank goodness for Arthur and his decision to push Warren out of his comfort zone. I will say that usually small town romance with the close knit family is such a fun read because of the love and loyalty that you see from the family. That being said, I do not like Thomas Ashton. He disappointed me in Bittersweet and he downright p!s$ed me off in Honeyed. He made me feel like there was more than one villain in this story. The mystery and suspense is done well in this book, it’s not a plot line I was expecting and it was done well. If you love small town romance mixed with a bit haunting suspense that will have you glued to the pages, Carrie has you covered with Honeyed. I’m super excited for Liam and Evan’s books, the breadcrumbs are leading to some interesting things! Very solid series and an emotional roller coaster!

Honeyed – Ashton Family #2 - Review

Author: Carrie Aaron

Couple: Alana Ashton & Warren Teal

Tropes: childhood friends, small town, insta-lust, soul mates, found family, dark family secrets, fake marriage

Review: A sweet and spicy read that will satisfy your romance needs. This book is all about the childhood friends to lovers themes and is a wonderful story of two people who are perfect for one another. Carrie Aaron gives us a feel good romance and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Alana and Warren are two adults who have always been best friends. I loved their friendship and the unrelenting trust and loyalty they had in one another. I found it funny how they both loved each other but also struggled with moving onto more. At first, I really wanted to dislike Warren since he had the issue with admitting his feelings but as his story unfolded, I ended up liking him more.

Warren’s character was unique and had a tragic past. I was riveted by everything that unraveled around him surrounding his father. I liked how Alana was always there to help him and remind him how amazing he was but also how he was not his father. The way Carrie developed his character and backstory really added to their story and all the tension Warren felt about taking that next step. I enjoyed how his stepfather’s will was what made him take the leap to marry Alana and loved how he instituted the scholarship to help out a friend.

Alana was a strong FMC and my heart broke for her at first since she is hurting from Warren not taking the risk to be together. Her character was a good fit for the plot and I enjoyed how her family was a strength for her. One thing I loved about Alana was how determined she was to obtain her goals. I loved seeing Warren support her and defend her to her father since it was pivotal in their relationship. I also liked how she was able to step back and enjoy her time with Warren once the admit their marriage had always been real.

Carrie delivers a perfect blend of spice and romance in this book and the buildup is worth the wait.  I loved how their story is based off a true friendship and loved how Alana’s family took Warren in. This book is a good feel good romance that will give you warm fuzzies as you read!

Rating: 4/5, Alana and Warren are a sweet and steamy story for first love!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥

Two friends who have loved each other more than anyone but have kept it to themselves. Suddenly, a chance of a lifetime comes their way to make their ambitions and dreams come true, but there is only one catch: they have to get married and stay married.

Alana Ashton and Warren Teal have been attached at the hip since middle school. It helps that her family welcomed her best friend with open arms. Now he works as a manager at their infamous restaurant, and they're both suppressing feelings for each other. When Warren's adopted father passes, he leaves his fortune with a stipulation: Marry Alana.

The choice is not as easy as it seems. Warren has promised Alana's father that he would not cross the line between friendship and love when it comes to her. But the money? It would allow him to help Alana and many others achieve their dream.

They pursue the marriage of convenience anyway, but would they be able to get through the consequences of their farce?

Just when I thought Book One set the bar high for this series, Alana and Warren's story moved it a lot higher. I love the push and pull between them as they navigate through their attraction and feelings. It brings such delicious tension that leaves us at the edge of our seats until we get the ultimate payoff, and boy, was the wait worth it. Carrie Aarons always delivers solid spice, and when it had been sizzling from the first chapter? So good.

I also enjoyed the mix of romance, drama, and suspense (which was a pleasant surprise).

This is the second installment in the series, and it can be read as a standalone. There are appearances from the couple in the previous read, but the Ashton Family just adds so much comic relief and flavor. I cannot wait for the next story!

** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Carrie Aarons and Grey's Promotions for providing an ARC. **

Alana Ashton and Warren Teal have been best friends since forever... and they've also loved each other for just about that long. But no one ever expected for these two besties to elope, least of all them...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Honeyed was a sweet, friends to lovers, fake relationship, romance read! Alana and Warren have been hiding their feelings from each other for many years, but when they agree to marry, giving into their attraction is nothing but inevitable...
When Warren loses his adoptive father, he knows he will inherit a great deal of money... but what he didn't count on was one very large stipulation. Marry the woman he has always loved, but has always been too scared to pursue...
Alana has an amazing family who she loves and adores, but sometimes she wishes for more than simply being a small part of running the family business. But when her dreams are met with disapproval from her father, Alana has to find a different way to achieve everything she wants in life...
This book was a wonderful read, and a truly heartwarming love story. Alana and Warren's long road to love was met with many hurdles along the way, but in the end, the priceless friendship they always shared leads to a love like none other.
I found Warren's backstory very interesting, and really enjoyed how the despair of his childhood presented itself in the plot. I loved the way that Alana has always stood by him, and when he *finally* realizes that a connection like theirs can grow stronger, every single day.
I adore the Ashton Family series so much already, and I am so excited to see what comes next for this close knit family, and which sibling will fall in love next!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Heartwarming page turner
I am really enjoying reading the Ashton Family series by Carries Aarons. HONEYED is book #2 and is a friends to lovers, marriage of convenience story which was heartwarming, emotional, and kept me rapidly turning the pages.
Alana Ashton is the only daughter in the Ashton family, and sometimes this can be a real negative. She feels that she must work harder to be recognized. Her dream has always been to open her own business, unfortunately her family doesn't take her dream seriously. Warren Teal has lived a life filled with tragedy; he has a complex background that endeared me to him even more than I thought. Through it all Ashley has been his best friend, the one who always stood by his side. Recently he came into an inheritance, but it comes with conditions. Warren has the opportunity to make Ashley's dream come true, will she agree with his plan?
Ashley and Warren have been friends since childhood, but they are so much more than that. There has always been something deeper between them, yet they haven't pushed their friendship any further. What will happen when they are finally honest about their feelings? I loved that they really cared for and looked out for each other. It was thoroughly enjoyable watching them navigate through the changes that occurred within their friendship and how they evolved into more. This is a couple who were definitely meant to be a forever couple.
I'm really loving this series, there is so much acceptance, understanding, fun and love within it. I can't wait for more from this wonderful family. Carrie's words always pull me in and make me want to move to her small towns. HONEYED was another terrific read.
When you finally get the girl, even if it’s faked
Warren has had a tough childhood, his father killed his mother, then his adopted parents were not ready to have care for a child emotionally. The only shining star was Alana, who he met while doing a project in 8th grade, she brought him home to her family and they loved him as one of their own. Growing up best friends with Alana while suppressing his love for her was always the best and hardest thing for him. But when his adoptive father passes and leaves him a letter stating everything in his estate is his, if he only married Alana, can he fake marry her and not let his true emotions show?
Alana has been in love with her best friend since before she ever knew what love meant. There was one time 10 years ago when she thought he might feel the same, but they agreed to never discuss that again. So when he tells her that they have to get married so he can get his father estate, she realizes that he will never feel the same way as she does, but she is willing to help him achieve his goals and he can make her dream of opening a storefront come true since her family does not support her.
Can these two continue to keep their love for each other under wraps while living under the same roof and having to act like a real marriage while in public of their small town? Can they kiss and hold hands without letting that spark they both feel turn into a full blown inferno? Would crossing that line into more really be that bad? Oh and don’t forget about Warrens ugly past that keeps knocking at their door.
The second book in Carrie Aarons’ Ashton Family series and Honeyed covers several of my favourite tropes such as marriage of convenience, friends to lovers and unrequited teenage love all combined into one great story. The hero, Warren has a tragic past, but he gained a family with the Ashtons treating him as one of their own and falling in love with the only daughter Alana but a promise to her father meant he never acted on his feelings which were shared by Alana, and they remained friends. Years later he’s the manager of the family restaurant and he and Alana dance around each other until a condition in an unexpected inheritance means not only does he have to marry, but it also has to be Alana.
I feel a bit let down by this book as I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to, and I think it’s down to the lack of chemistry between the characters. They just felt more like a couple who had been married for years and were comfortable with each other rather than a pair who had been suffering from unrequited love. I did enjoy the storyline which had a good flow with just the right amount of suspense and danger to add some depth to it. I also loved the characters especially Nonna and the strong family dynamics or I should say I loved them all except for Thomas Ashton, the patriarch of the family who, the further into this series I get the more I actively dislike him and right now I’m dreaming of someone finally giving him the punch he deserves.
Carrie Aarons gives us a winner with Alana and Warren's story! Things to look for in this book:
Marriage of convenience ✔️
Small town romance ✔️
Best friends to lovers ✔️
Found family ✔️
Bit of a mystery ✔️
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice level: 🌶️.5
Angst level: 💔💔
Alana and Warren have been the best of friends for decades, while both not so secretly had more than friendly feelings for each other. But after a promise to her father, Warren vowed to never cross that line with her. And over the years, he has kept his promise.
Now here we are in the present and Warren has lost the last parent figure in his life and in order to get his inheritance, he needs to marry Alana. And once Alana agrees, their journey to their HEA begins. The push and pull between these two was so present and I just wanted them to let their walls down so that they could really be together. And once they do, can they make it last long term? Or was it just a dream all along?
I really enjoyed this book and this family! Alana was a fantastic female lead and I loved how she stood up for herself when she felt that she wasn't getting what she deserved - from both Warren and her family.
Now, I am impatiently waiting for Evan and Liam's story - she has teased both of them and I am HOPING that I am guessing correctly as to who Evan's FMC is going to be!
Honeyed by Carrie Aarons
I was an emotional wreck while reading this book. I think I went through all of the emotional with these two characters. With Warren I mean gosh all of the guilt he had just for being in love with Alana. He get guilty of not being able to love her openly and out loud became of the stupid talk he had with Thomas. Which by the way I understood completely but Thomas should have seen knowing Warren so well that he would have stayed away just to honor his wishes and because I’m a way he was kinda integrating into him that he wasn’t in a way good enough for Alana which he knew would mess with a guy like Warren. Then the emotions he went through with losing his mom the way he did then loosing his dad because of his own actions and then to again loose his foster parents the way he does. It’s heartbreaking and still he is the amazing man he is. I love how much he cared for August and just how much he showed all of the Ashton’s how much they meant to him. I was so angry with a Thomas for being a jerk to both him and Alana not only about their relationship but about the Lily. I thought Mason was trouble since he showed up and I was glad he was stoped but it’s sucked that crap had to happen before. Absolutely loved this book and can’t recommend enough and absolutely excited for Liam and Gabrielle’s story.
Oh my gosh!! So many tears!!! I am so wrapped up in this family it’s beyond obsessed! I loved every moment of book one and I think I loved this one even more!!!
Alana and Warren were always an unknown and I could tell something big was coming!! I loved this book so much! So many emotions also came along with it though! I know I was so shocked at times, annoyed at both of them for their stupidity at not knowing how the other felt. I wanted to seriously ask them what was blinding them!?! So many moments I felt on edge for Alana and had so many hopeful moments that would fizzle out! I loved their banter so much and you could feel their friendship over everything else! About halfway through I started to feel this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach and worried for the dread. The moment you know something horrible is coming and you just hope it’s not the end of the end.
I’m an emotional reader and I’ve already fallen in love with this family and so this ending was so amazingly bittersweet! I cried so much for the last several chapters! The moments Warren lost from his childhood, the things that were said it him, the pain that Alana endured because of a broken heart and everything in between. This was something I needed to pull me out of a funk and I could read this book over and over! Amazing work!
After having met the Ashton family in “Bittersweet”, I was really excited to go back to Hope Crest and spend time with this gang again. They’re such a wonderful family and I love how Carrie builds a small town vibe—you really feel like you’re part of the fun. Between all the family drama and the fun they have at the same time, it’s a guarantee that we’re going to enjoy their stories.
Alana and Warren have tons of history. Between growing up together, losing virginities to each other and (secretly) being in love with the other—there’s a lot to unpack. Unlike Alana, Warren’s childhood is a little less than stellar and he doesn’t have much to call his own. Except for the Ashton family. So it’s not a surprise that these two have a bond as strong as they do.
Carrie weaves a love story with mutual pining and second chances into a marriage of convenience with a dash of suspense. All of that comes together so well in this book. Between the vibrant characters and the lush setting, it’s easy to escape into this book and forget to come up for air!
Thanks to Carrie Aarons for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
Honeyed is the second book in the Ashton Family series by Carrie Aarons. You can read each book as standalone but I recommend reading Bittersweet to get a glimpse into Warren and Alana’s friendship. You know…before they get married.
Alana has loved her best friend since she truly knew what love was. She has tried to date other men but they are not him. They have had their shares of ups and downs throughout the years but will always be there for each other. So when Warren out of the blue asks her to marry him… she knows it will confuse her heart even more but she agrees. For him. For her. For a friend. The money can make all their dreams come true.
Warren’s adoptive father knew exactly what he was doing when he added to his will that Will had to marry Alana to get his fortune. It was forcing Warren to get his head out of his ass to finally admit that he loved his best friend. But will he? He is one loyal and stubborn man but there is always a breaking point, right?
Carrie killed it with this one. I love Warren and Alana. I love her family even though I wanted to tell off-one of the members. In the end it’s an emotional, steamy, and fun story about two best friends who would do anything for one another.
Honeyed (ARC review)
Thank you to Carrie Aarons for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review
This is truly a beautiful book. I loved every moment of it. Alana and Warren were made for eachother. Denying their feelings was so hard to witness cause I felt how hurt they were by that. Wanting and yearning eachother but never crossing the line was probably the hardest thing they both had to do. Alana is definitely my favorite girl, so hardworking, independent, sassy and a dreamer. She has always been there for her family and for her it's time to explore herself a bit more. Warren has been the kid her family took in when they were young and Alana's best friend. He is her person as she is his. They support, love and care for eachother and they would do anything for eachother. The angst this book had was magnificent and the chemistry Alana and Warren had was out of this world. I couldn't get enough of them, the same way they couldn't get enough of eachother. The moment they crossed the line there was no coming back. They were meant for eachother and they proved that each time they came together. The epilogue was truly so perfect for them and I'm so excited for the next book!
4.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
As someone who is not typically a friends-to-lovers fan, I went into this a little nervous, but I have to admit that Aarons knocked this out of the park! I absolutely lovedddd this book!
Thoughts:
-Alana is such a spitfire and you can clearly tell she grew up around all boys. She was such a fiery and fun character to read and get to know. It was clear that she thought her love for Warren was a weakness, but it was actually one of her greatest strengths
-Warren. Oh boy, I just loved him. He was such a well-developed character. His tragic upbringing was written with such dimension and drove the plot forward in more ways than one
-Warren and Alana’s consistent support of each other, even when they weren’t talking to each other made my heart swell. It was so obvious how much they cared about each other
-Aarons did a great job of showing the complexities of falling for your best friend and how much can be at stake if you take that chance
-I loved the Ashton family dynamic so much more in this book. We got a glimpse into all of the siblings a bit more and you could tell how robust they are as a unit
This book was such a great small-town friends-to-lovers read with the right amount of chemistry, love, and drama! I highly recommend picking this one up!
Thank you Carrie Aarons and Grey’s Promotions for a #gifted copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
