Bengaluru: On Tuesday, a 56-year-old woman, a resident of Udayanagar has filed a complaint against her daughter-in-law and a jeweller. The old woman claimed that both allegedly misused her Aadhaar card to get 80 gm gold from the shop. When the old woman complained about it, her daughter-in-law threatened to file a dowry case against her.

The Karnataka police said that the woman has filed a case against her daughter-in-law who has been identified as Alekhya and a jewellery store owner.

Geetha (name changed), the woman who raised the complaint said that her daughter-in-law had separated from her son a year-and-a-half ago and had returned to her hometown in Andhra Pradesh.

Geetha said that, “Without my knowledge, she used my card at the store in Hyderabad and submitted my Aadhaar card copy along with a fake letter stating that I was not keeping well and she would collect it on my behalf,” as quoted by the Bangalore Mirror

The old woman also claimed that when she tried to talk to her daughter-in-law, she threatens to file a harassment case.

According to a senior police officer jewellery shop involvement, in this case, is not important as all the process is done once it was verified using an Aadhaar card. After the documentation process, the shop owner handed jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh to Alekhya.

The police officer also added, "We are taking statements from everyone and the case is under investigation."
