2021-22 BH Handbook

Organizational Tools, Lost & Found, Messages and Telephone Use

Organizational skills play an important role in academic success at Branksome Hall. Students are encouraged to use the following resources to organize their studies and belongings while at school:

Lockers

There will be no locker use to start the 2021-22 school year due to COVID-19. Should the use of lockers become viable mid-year, students will be assigned lockers at that time.

Valuables

Money, valuables, personal items of significance or large sums of money should not be brought to school. Laptops should be kept in the student’s backpack, when not being used for class. Money and valuables should not be left unattended (e.g. in book bags) at any time.

Personal Electronic Devices

Cell phones and mobile devices should not be seen during class time, unless the teacher has specifically requested their use or they are part of a student’s Learning Strategies Plan. Students may use personal devices before and after school. Grades 9-12 students may use their devices between classes and during lunch.

Calculators

All students in Grades 9-12 will need to have a Texas Instruments TI-84+ calculator with them in every Math class. Students should purchase their calculators independently before the start of the school year.

Lost and Found

At the beginning of the year, there will be opportunities for students to come to a location in the school to collect items from the last two years that were left on campus. The Lost and Found will not be easily accessible this year; students should only bring what they need for the day to school and leave it in their bag, to take with them when they leave. All items should be clearly marked so they can be returned to the student if lost.

Messages and Telephone Use

Parents are discouraged from texting or calling their children during the school day. Reception will pass messages along to students on behalf of parents.

Messages for students in Grades 7-12 will be emailed to the student’s school email address. In an emergency, a staff member will visit the student’s classroom. Should students need to call home, they may ask permission to do so using their own cell phones.

For incoming calls, the school switchboard is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please use the automated line (416-920-6265) to leave messages at any time for teachers and staff on the school’s voice mail system.
