Danish singer-songwriter Ronny Morris is maker of power ballads with a broad reach, as frequently about the state of the world as they about the condition of his heart.

Morris, who lived in L.A. for a decade and has since decamped to Spain, has a knack for getting his messages across in an understated manner. His 2018 single “Hey,” from the album “Sweet Silence,” starts with two gently posed rhetorical questions: “Hey, so this is how we do things? / Hey, so this is how we kill things?”

That innocence is stripped away in the video for “Hey,” as the song backs the images of award-winning Danish photojournalist Jan Grarup, who has documented horrors all over the world and in 2017 published the massive book “And Then There Was Silence.”

Morris’ collaboration with Grarup focuses on the photographer’s work documenting refugees. “The refugees’ stories are drowning in discussions about border bombs and whether they should be allowed to keep their wedding rings and mobile phones when entering our countries,” Morris says. “I hope we with this release we can inform the stereotype, bringing more compassion into this debate.”
