From the producer of The Lion King and Aladdin, Frozen, the Tony ® -nominated Best Musical, will play an exclusive 2-week Atlanta premiere engagement at the Fox Theatre through Sunday, June 12. Frozen is presented as part of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta 40th anniversary season.

“Disney’s struck gold! Sumptuous sets, gorgeous costumes, and plenty of special effects to wow the audience!” raves the New York Post. “With the magic, the dancing, and all those iconic tunes, Frozen was born to be a stage musical!” writes the Evening Standard.

Along with hundreds of little girls in Elsa and Anna dresses, my family saw Disney's Frozen last Friday night at the Fox Theatre and we agree, it's FANTASTIC!! The sets were some of the best I've seen, especially the ice castle scenes. The costumes ranged from the hilarious sauna outfits to Elsa's gorgeous blue ice crystal gown. And of course, Disney brings the magic to life through special effects as only Disney can!  Not only does it snow, but we watch Anna slowly freeze from her hem to her hair and Elsa's ice storm is spectacular! Speaking of spectacular, Caroline Bowman's (Elsa) singing was incredible! Lauren Nicole Chapman not only had a beautiful voice, but also perfectly portrayed Anna's naïve enthusiasm for life. In fact all of the actors in this extremely talented cast had fabulous voices.

The first pair of real-life sisters to simultaneously be cast for the theatrical production, 10 years old Natalie Grace Chan, (young Elsa) and 7 years old, Victoria Hope Chan (young Anna) were delightful, but Victoria's dancing with the Hidden Folk stole the show! They both said that because they were away from their parents for months while touring, that the best part of this experience was sharing it with each other.

One of the most beloved characters in this story almost didn't make it into the show! “We were not going to have Sven in the show,” said Thomas Schumacher, the president of Disney Theatrical Productions, “because we were afraid he would just occupy space onstage and be distracting.” But the company invited its longtime puppetry collaborator, Michael Curry (“The Lion King”), to experiment with ways the shaggy creature might be represented onstage.

He decided to fashion a reindeer suit that could be brought to life by a single actor within. “He is a compromise between the caricature of the animated feature and a real reindeer but also with human-like qualities,” Mr. Curry said. Sven is eight and a half feet long and the costume weighs about 14 pounds. There is a screen hidden in the animal’s neck, allowing the actor to see. Probably the most physically demanding character, Sven is onstage for about 40 minutes of the show. Inside, Collin Baja is on all fours, essentially planking for up to seven minutes at a time, with 11-inch stilts attached to his hands, and five-inch metal shanks attached to his feet. A cable connects his right hand to Sven’s eyes, to make him blink and another connects his left hand to Sven’s ears, which can be rotated or pulled back to express excitement or happiness. The costume is so hot that, in breaks from the action, Sven retreats to a “puppet corner” offstage, where an air conditioning tube can be inserted into the costume to lower his body temperature.

Staring Caroline Bowman as Elsa, Lauren Nicole Chapman as Anna, Mason Reeves as Kristoff,  F. Michael Haynie as Olaf, Collin Baja or Evan Strand as Sven, and Austin Colby as Hans (FYI: husband to Elsa, Caroline Bowman, in real life).

If you are only going to take your kids to see one Broadway show, Disney's Frozen should be it!!
