Donny Gerrard dead: Skylark lead singer known for hit track Wildflower passes away

THE lead singer of band Skylark has died, his niece confirmed.

Donny Gerrard, 75, was best known for his number one hit Wildflower that he performed with the Canadian band.

However, on Thursday the star's niece, Kimberly Christian confirmed that the singing legend had passed away.

“My uncle, Donny Gerrard,” she wrote in a Facebook post. Words cannot express my grief at this time. Rest peacefully.”

A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Gerard rose to fame with the band that centered around then-keyboardist David Foster.

The band was responsible for single Wildflower, which spent 21 weeks on the Billboard charts.

The track became an R&B hit and was covered by numerous artists including The O'Jays, Lisa Fischer and Silk.

He also recorded the 1985 charity single for African famine relief, Tears Are Not Enough, with the likes of Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.

His last known work before his passing was released in 2018 in the form of We Get By.
