Creative Thought Leader / Author / Raconteur / Solutions Architect... I drink espresso and design disruption!

This is what depression looks like. I'm happy right? Yup... and still live with this weird cloud that robs me of my energy and tilts my mood. It sux because I don't drink, smoke or take drugs, I eat and sleep well, exercise enough... I do all the right things... and still, my brain says... "Fuck you, we're staying in bed today". #mentalhealth is a tricky subject because it's relative to absolutely everyone. There is no real 'standard' and because of this, there is no standard 'fix'. For me, it's kinda like diabetes... something I'm unsure I'll ever be cured of, only something I can manage as best I can. Most days are ok. Few days are great. Some days are harder. I've only recently started taking meds to help support my system... the first brand wasn't great for me, so now I'm trialling a second... 🤞 Two things. I post this to open up awareness for mental health for other men, and for women to recognise it as valid in modern masculinity. Second, I deliberately chose this photo that I used in a 'happy post' a few weeks ago, to illustrate that, I'm the same guy. I'd love to open this up to you guys... how has your attention around mental health changed recently? Follow my content #appliedcreativity #thoughtleader #leadership

I like to use gratitude lists for all of the BS to put into a positive light. "House is a mess" - I'm thankful I have a sink to put dishes in "Got laid off" - I'm thankful I have an opportunity to choose another company and learn new things "It's raining" - I'm thankful that my herbs are auto watered and will make a fine dinner soon I struggle with depression myself (or used to), perhaps fueled from bad habits of the past or by broken mental wiring... Probably both. I know the feeling of having negative energy and you can't even get out of bed for glass of water for 2 days. I'm aware. I can say after writing these things down, every morning and every night, for about three months straight, I started waking up at 7. Then 6. Then 5. And going to bed earlier... At 12... Then 11... 10. I started reaching out to people despite not wanting to, and I've met some of the most fascinating people ever. I take dedicated time to hang out with my son and wife, as well as "me time". I am not scared to tell anybody "I have no idea what's going on" or "I desperately need some help please" without shame. This is not intended to belittle a condition, but rather share a strategy that was hard to get used to, but was highly effective for me.

Twenty years ago, my mom tried to commit suicide. It was unsuccessful. I was plunged into the world of mental health. If there was one thing I wish I could yell to the entire world, it is this: Every single one of us is a step or two away from (at a minimum) depression. It can happen to any of us and it is NOT OUR FAULT. Treat everyone with kindness and compassion. You really have no idea what anyone is going thru. Off soapbox now. I feel your pain Christopher. And happily offer you my wide shoulders to lean on any day you want.

Christopher. S. Sellers thank you for sharing. Our minds are tricky, even when we feel we are doing all the 'right things' and things are 'going well', it's not necessarily the case for our mind.

I'm big into the idea of mental health and digital health. If you don't feel like gearing up - don't. Burn out can come from so many things! Unresolved trauma. Dietary issues. Etc, etc, etc. People need time, sometimes, to sort through what's going on to get back up and keep on moving forward. When I just push through I tend to get worse. When I take time off to process, I process. I hope the second brand works good! Keep a journal of how it makes you feel. It will help if you have to do a third trial or a dosage modification.

Thank you for sharing. I just asked my doctor to increase the mg of my antidepressants today. I’m thankful I don’t have many days feeling like staying in bed lately. But it’s still definitely a one day at a time type of battle. I hope tomorrow is one of the feel-great days for you. 💛

Thanks for sharing Christopher. S. Sellers. You're right that these are topics that are not discussed enough so it's great what you're doing in this post. Building on those struggles. I hope talking about them and seeing how they matter and resonate can also help you, which is what's most important.
