The Bone Scroll

Rate this book
Finding it could cost them everything. Wielding it could mean their end.

It’s a secret lost in time, a myth among immortals, a relic of such power that vampires around the world have quietly harbored the hope that it doesn’t really exist.
It’s a mystery that Tenzin and Ben cannot resist.

But to obtain the Bone Scroll, they’ll need leverage over the most powerful and mercurial vampire in the known world. Saba, oldest of immortals and mother of the vampire race, has returned to her homeland in the highlands of Ethiopia, searching for the scroll with a cadre of elders. In order to outsmart them, Ben and Tenzin will need to walk a literal and figurative edge through a maze of vampire loyalties, shadowy motivations, and ancient secrets.

If Saba wanted them gone, she could command the earth to swallow them whole. But the mother of vampires is playing her own game, and both Ben and Tenzin are no more than pawns.

Can they outsmart and outmaneuver the most primeval beings in their race to find the Bone Scroll before it lands in the possession of those who care only for their own selfish gain?

The Bone Scroll is the next supernatural mystery in the Elemental Legacy series by Elizabeth Hunter, USA Today bestselling author of the Elemental Mysteries, the Irin Chronicles, and the Glimmer Lake series.

Words cannot express my excitement to see the next Benzin novel sitting on my kindle a little early! Below is my honest opinion of The Bone Scroll.

This book was such a complex and alluring development in the Ben and Tenzin storyline. We finally see them back together on a job, and with that comes the comfort of working with a partner you’ve worked alongside for years…like a well oiled machine, only with shenanigans and Tenzinisms. What I found to be a particularly delightful detail was watching the contrasting aspect to that in their personally relationship as they learn each other in this new intimate way. Oh Tenzin, I will never be bored with your one liners!

We see SO many old friends in this book! It made my heart swell with happiness. So much Gio, B and SADIA!! And you know how Elizabeth is famous for writing side characters that end up stealing the show? (I’m looking at you, Gavin and Chloe!) Well she has done it again with DANIEL. PLEASE. PLEASE WRITE MORE DANIEL!!!!!! I want alllll of the Daniel stories.

As we’ve come to expect this book is full of mystery, sizzle and plenty of action (both personally and professionally 😉) We get long awaited answers and are left with a few more questions lol The Bone Scroll certainly does not disappoint! And I was pleased with the ending and the potential for more Benzin in the future. It felt honest to the characters which I feel is super important.

And just to make sure this is noted enough times to draw attention to it….more Daniel please 😉

I feel like this book really, really redefines the idea that Ben and Tenzin like a challenge. After all, what better way to mark the start of a new chapter in their lives and relationship, than by going up against literally the oldest and most powerful vampires anyone knows? But with rumors circulating that a new and dangerous artifact has surfaced in Ethiopia, Ben and Tenzin might be the only ones up to the task of finding it before it falls into the wrong hands…assuming they don’t end up burnt to a crisp. Or buried alive. Or…well, you know what? There are really infinite ways things could go wrong this time, and that doesn’t even begin to include the issues in their personal relationship that still need to be resolved.

Ranging from the glittering mansions in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights, to some of the oldest corners of the Amhara region in Ethiopia, The Bone Scroll is a fantastic adventure, full of heists, fun schemes, a host of secrets, several skirmishes and at least one debatable dog-napping. It’s also clearly a love note from Elizabeth Hunter to Ethiopia, and a wonderful close to the Elemental Legacy series (for now!). Absolutely loved it - 10/10 would recommend for any fan of the Elemental series!

"Careful. You're going to want to play with that later."

If that is not the best description of Ben and Tenzin, in all facets, I really don't know what would be!!

I'm at a loss for the right words to describe the beauty of this story. Not only do we get the flourishing relationship of our favorite thieves, and all the fun that entails. Plus Gio, Beatrice and Sadia! Who said that family vacations were boring?!!

We also get the most extraordinary scenery descriptions I have ever read. Every word that illustrates Ethiopia brought me there and made me feel like I was stepping into their shoes. I could feel the air and smell the trees and dirt.

Hunter's intense research feeds my soul and my hunger for knowledge. Her world building just takes these delicious morsels and explodes them across the pages.

Another masterpiece that will live in my heart forever.

I am gutted and devastated that after three novellas and five full novels, Ben & Tiny’s journey has finally come to an end. Well for now at least. It has been an amazing journey with ups and downs. Twists and turns at not everything being as it seems and with these two it is a journey I shall gladly take again and again. The world building is as strong as ever vivid, unique and beautifully done.

The Bone Scroll is no different. Ms. Hunter takes us on a magical journey to Ethiopia to search for a myth. Even this myth happens to be true then it could be fatal to all humans and vampires alike. A scroll where you can control all five elements. But not everyone can read the scroll where another legend comes into play. You don’t get ordinary with Ms. Hunter you get outstanding and flawless.

I have adored Ben & Tiny right from the beginning and here it is no different however Ms. Hunter as a concession to Tiny being who she is and her opening herself. One ILY wouldn’t have hurt now would it? But then it wouldn’t be true Tenzin. So torn. They are trying to figure out what eternity will mean to them. These two truly belong together.

For me all was not roses and sunshine it was a tad slow at times and somewhat political because there were a lot of heavy hitters what with Saba and Arosh being involved. So there was more dancing and less action but when there was action it was awesome.

Personal interests to when it comes to different civilisations the continent Africa and the country Ethiopia have never been on my radar but this has now changed. I shall need to fill the curiosity that has been piqued.

With one of my all-time series coming to an end. What am I to do? It feels like I have left a tiny part of my soul with these characters. I still have Carwyn & Brigid. Sigh.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

I love these characters so much. As soon as I finished this book, I wanted to read it again. Ben and Tenzin are together now, and they are… working things out. I love that they’re back to their playfulness with each other, and there’s this extra level of intimacy to it that is beautiful and heartwarming. But they both have things to overcome to build a future together.

Now they are searching for an ancient object of power, to keep it from the power hungry Arosh. There is vampire politics, thousands of years of rumours, and ancients with mysterious intentions to contend with. And of course, some thievery and treasure hunting.

And Sadia, Ben’s little sister, with the cheekiness with Tenzin and straight up adorable love of the whole family. I love that we get a little more Gio and B time in this story, and seeing how the family is growing and evolving.

The way Elizabeth Hunter writes about Ethiopia makes me want visit and see it for myself, and the world of ancient vampires she has created is both complex and interesting. I think I could happily read a hundred more of these stories. Seriously, it’s the Ben and Tenzin show. 💜

Full disclosure: I managed to get my grubby hands on an ARC!

Exiting exotic Urban Fantasy set in Ethiopia

The long-awaited and for the time being last Ben and Tenzin adventure. This is the fifth and final book in the Elemental Legacy series, which is a spin-off of Elizabeth Hunter’s hugely addictive Elemental Mystery and Elemental World books.

The title-giving Bone Scroll is this mythological object of vampire lore that is supposed to confer the power to control all four (five) elements on the one that holds it (or rather, the one that manages to decipher it). After it has lain hidden and mostly forgotten for centuries, now rumors of its existence suddenly abound. Tenzin is alerted by her sire who fears for the balance of the vampire world, if any one vampire should gain so much power. Though several obstacles present themselves right from the beginning, like the scarcity of reliable documentation about the scroll, the fact that they are not the only ones looking for it and the fact that its most likely hiding place is somewhere smack in the middle of Saba’s territory, Ben and Tenzin have never been able to resist a good treasure hunt. But the stakes have never been so high, as the holder of the scroll would become more powerful than even Saba, who is the oldest vampires of them all…

As a bookish reader (that sounds a bit like a tautology, but you know what I mean) one of the pleasures of this series for me derives from the way of how the stories are driven by research, on the one hand on the level of the plot, where the protagonists follow references painstakingly gleaned from historical documents and by consulting specialists, and on the other hand from the research the author has undertaken to imbue the story with a rich historical, geographic and cultural fabric. Although it might sound a bit contradictory, it’s this attention to detail that makes Elizabeth Hunter’s books appear so real/realistic; despite the fact they belong to the realm of the paranormal, the fantastical, they read almost like magical realism. But never fear; there aren’t any lengthy place descriptions or large information dumps, rather Elizabeth Hunter succeeds in weaving it all seamlessly together, so that for instance you feel the night in Addis Ababa pulse around you as Ben and Tenzin step off the plane or you feel awed by the sublimeness of the rock churches in Lalibela, even as our protagonists are in a race to find the Bone Scroll first.
On a meta-level you come to realize that Africa has a rich and long cultural history which contradicts the view historically held in the West of Africa as a mostly white (empty) spot on the map, without a history and culture of its own before the European colonizers arrived (a view that is being challenged by a post-colonial approach in various fields of study, a critique that also subtly underlies the whole book…)

It was exciting to see favorite characters from the series pop up, as well as have new characters introduced that hopefully in the future will get their own story. And I loved that Beatrice, Gio and Sadie got to accompany Ben and Tenzin on this adventure, mostly to lend them an air of respectability, though Sadie did provide an instrumental clue.

At the conclusion of Dawn Caravan Ben and Tenzin were actually in a good place in their relationship, but it was good to see how they were still growing together and settling into each other’s lives and habits as a couple. This is not “and they lived happily for ever” (because eternity after all is a rather long time), but they are happy for now and the ending leaves open the possibility for more stories in the future, though the story arc of how they found to each other is finished.

I devoured it, loved it, so 5+ stars.

When I finished the last Elizabeth Hunter book I was scrolling through her catalog in GR and realized that I somehow missed this book when it came out. So I immediately purchased it and I am so glad I did.

I had said in my review of Bishop’s Flight that Carwyn and Brigid were my favorite pairing in the Elemental world. That may be true but the Ben and Tenzin stories (in the Elemental Legacy series) I think are by far the best reads in the Elemental world.

This is perhaps the best of them all.

Ben and Tenzin are hired to travel the world searching for lost ancient artifacts and treasure. The stories have a deep archeological and anthropological backbone that is always so interesting (in addition to the vampire world and politics and the love stories that also play a key role).

Elizabeth Hunter does an amazing amount of research when she writes these stories and it shows. She spent months in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in preparation for this book.

This story is set there and although the missing object is a fictional ancient mystical scroll of incredible power, Ben and Tenzin (along with some other fan favorites like Giovanni and Beatrice who are along for the adventure) traverse through the villages and ancient ruins of real Ethiopia. It’s a perfect blending of the mythical with the real ancient world and culture of Ethiopia.

Ben and Tenzin have a rocky and volatile past and lots of issues to resolve in their personal lives along the way as well.

There’s something that I find really gripping about Hunter’s stories and writing (particularly in this world and the Irin Chronicles world) that I just never get bored with even about 10 years after reading the first Elemental book.

She has a new time travel based mystical world (also set somewhere in Africa I believe) that I’m looking forward to diving into next.

This book my me so happy and sad at the same time. Happy because finally more Benzin and Sad because obviously, this is technically the last book in the series.

For everyone who has been on this ride of Ben and Tenzin’s adventures, this one will not disappoint you at all. It has all the adventure and the complications that come with it.

It also has more of them together and all their gloriousness. They way the banter and argue is my favourite. Tenzin’s hilarious misunderstanding of things and the stuff she says and Ben dealing with her haha. I love it all so much! Plus their chemistry is off the charts. Them together = happy heart.

If you have not read this series then I definitely recommend it especially if you love paranormal romance + adventuring treasure hunting junkies.

Ben and Tenzin's last hurrah, for now, was as thrilling, steamy, magical, and mysterious as I've come to love from these recovery adventures.

Going after an immensely powerful scroll, the suss out the clues with the best of pacing. Sometimes the next step is hard won, sometimes a breakthrough is made, and the varience makes it interesting and captivating to read.

Add if Gio, B, Sadia, and their entourage and it was a tale to remember for sure. There were schemes on top of schemes and lots of secrets revealed, and at the end, the fate of our heros seems quite happy and lovely. It was a wonderful end to one of my favorite series. I'm glad they will still be around. I love their dynamic so much.

I love Elizabeth Hunter and I love this series. The whole shebang. And I love the relationship between Ben and Tenzin and how it's changing. That said, I feel like this last book just didn't quite get there. The ending was not as strong as others have been. But I do appreciate that she noted "for now." Even if it's just a novella, the relationship here isn't completely resolved. I know it would have been too convenient and wrapped up with a bow, but I'd have liked some solid change and expression from Tenzin. The ending just felt incomplete.

The series is best read in print. Sean William Doyle is a good narrator - but for this series, he's just badly cast and does a terrible job.

THE END (for now) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I loved the story and the setting. It was great seeing so many of the characters that I love. Sadia is so precocious and so fun. I would love to see more of Daniel. Ben and Tenzin, oh how I love you two together! I can't wait to one day read more of your adventures.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of The Bone Scroll. I can't say enough about this book. Thank You Elizabeth for making me feel like I was right in Ethiopia with everyone. The details made me feel like I was right there with Ben and Tenzin. The Bone Scroll takes place in Ethiopia. When Tenzin find out about the Bone Scroll, she decides they need to go and find it before it lands in the hands of the wrong person. The Bone Scroll is an ancient artifact that is very powerful and in the wrong hands is could be dangerous. So with the help of Chloe, Gio B, Sadia, Dema and a few others they all go to Ethiopia on this hunt for the relic. I have to say that the journey to find the Bone Scroll was just as important as finding the scroll. It was a journey for Ben and Tenzin to finally understand what they mean to each other. When in Ethiopia, they are on Saba's turf and it makes you wonder what part she has played in the hunt for the scroll. I just love Tenzin and Ben and all the adventures they have shared over the years. And I wonder how many more shiny objects can Tenzin find in the future, and what crazy adventures they will go on together.

A Love Letter to Ethiopia!

What can I say?! This book has everything I've come to love about Ben and Tenzin. From the moment we met each of these characters, their journey has been absolutely crazy and fun. Maybe not always for each of them, but for the reader? Definitely.

This book is a love letter to Ethiopia! I almost wish it came with illustrations, but the beautiful descriptions leave such vibrant images in my mind, it's almost like the world jumps off the page. If you know anything about Elizabeth Hunter, you know she has a special place in her heart for Ethiopia and she shares so much with the readers in this fantastic book.

As always with Ben and Tenzin, adventure is on the menu and this caper leaves nothing out! Mystery, capers, treasure and shenanigans! You will be drawn in from the very beginning.

While this is possibly the last book in the Elemental Legacy series, I can always hope we get to see Benzin again soon. They're a fan favorite for good reason. But if it is, our beloved Hunter has done her characters true justice and I don't think any of her readers will be disappointed in this tale.

Indiana Jones meets vampires!
What a ride this series has been...3 novellas...5 novels. Elemental Legacy has taken us all over the world on adventures and has given us one of the most intriguing, complex, and wonderful characters of all time: TENZIN. (She has her own novella too.) Also, Ben...what a sweet boy we have seen grow into a man and more. I don't know how to put into words my feelings about this series that has come to an end (for now). Thank you Elizabeth Hunter for "Benzin", I can only imagine what you are feeling right now. Having poured out all your love for these characters onto paper all these years so we can be swept up into their world with them. It’s a very magical thing and there are tears in my eyes and my heart is full. Thank you for the ride.

I was given the opportunity to read an early copy of this book and it was amazing!! First of all there was so much depth and so many descriptions of the country that you could visualize it. The ancient churches fascinated me especially the Angel churches.. oh and the bakery up in it.. the smell of the bread!!
Then there is Ben and Tenzin!! I absolutely love them both and to be able to see their relationship grow was awesome. They are and will always be one of my favorite couples!!
This story was so interesting to me not only because they were looking for the Bone Scroll but because of who else was looking for it! It made for a very interesting and very intense search! Thank goodness they had an amazing team with Daniel, Giovanni and Beatrice. At the same time they got to have much needed family time! Sadia is absolutely precious and I love it every time we get to read about her!
This was another perfect example of the excellence of an Elizabeth Hunter book!! They never fail to blow you away!! I can not recommend this enough!! Excellent book!!

I love this book. After finishing, I immediately started back at the beginning to read again. Ben and Tenzin's relationship continues to develop in a very satisfying way. I loved the mystery and am intrigued by unexpected twist. The pacing is excellent, both with regard to the plot and the character development. I can think of at least five other things off the top of my head that I'd like to mention in my specific likes, but each one is a bit too spoiler-y. Elizabeth Hunter always delivers the best, but this time she delivered the best with bonus mention of The Repair Shop (the show is an absolute delight, just like this book).

I was so excited to receive an ARC of this book!
I'm loving being transported back to Benzin! The writing is so vivid, I can smell the dry earth, hear the sounds of the locals in the restaurants, and feel the winds in my hair!
Although EH has said this is the last in the series of Ben and Tenzin, I feel she will absolutely have more to add at a later date! Was totally worth the 2am sneaky reads when I woke during the night, and I was sad to finish it this morning!
This is another masterpiece from Elizabeth Hunter, I totally recommend it to anyone who reads the Elemental Legacy series!

Oh Benzin, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

1. They are adorable together. Beautiful, tragic, and heartbreaking apart, but A-DOR-A-BLE together.
2. Their beginning, stretching way way back in Elizabeth Hunter lore is one of my favorite prequels of any story ever, cementing Elizabeth Hunter as a literary genius for me forever and ever.
3. Their shenanigans have kept me quite literally on the edge of my seat, with so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming, mystery for days, and DID I MENTION A-DOR-A-BLE?
4. EH, please keep us updated every 500 years or so, please and thank you.

Even before reading the afterword to this book, I could tell that Elizabeth Hunter had spent a great deal of time researching the ancient history of the horn of Africa and wove wondrous historical acts about Ethiopia and its ancient people and places into the wild tales of vampires, curses, and magic - I have been fascinated by the idea of the rock churches of Ethiopia for years and the story brought them alive in the best way. Turns out she lived in Addis Abbaba for an extended period while writing this book which she calls the final Ben and Tenzin adventure. That moniker leaves me sad because this series is exceptional, even for Elizabeth Hunter, whose every word has been exceptionally good, imho. More, More, more we want more- pick up the chant so she hears us loudly and clearly.

Wow! Another great adventure for Ben and Tenzin. Each adventure is always unique, and I loved seeing characters from the Elemental Mysteries like Saba. She was such a mystery, it was great to get more of her. No one does Vamps and mystery like Elizabeth! Can't wait to see what's next!

The highly anticipated final book in the Ben and Tenzin series, The Bone Scroll both satisfied my desire to wrap up some story lines and left me wanting more Ben and Tenzin.

I have absolutely loved following the journey of these total opposite characters. Their adventures, their interactions, and their conversations have made me laugh, cry, and yell (my dogs didn't appreciate the last part). The Bone Scroll is an almost-perfect ending to their series while leaving a little space for more possibilities.

Elizabeth Hunter introduced us to Ethiopia in A Stone-Kissed Sea, but after reading The Bone Scroll, I want to visit more than ever. Her descriptions of ancient places and details of the rich history of the country are highlighted in a way that shows her love of the country and makes we want to experience it for myself.

I'm sad the series is over, but look forward to the next ones. Thanks for the journey, Elizabeth.

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from Author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Elemental Legacy series (Ben / Tenzin)  builds upon the very beginning which is Elemental Mysteries (Original series)and then the Elemental World. (Expanded World)   I would classify Elemental Mysteries and Elemental Legacy as urban fantasy as they deal with one couple primarily, whereas Elemental World is more paranormal romance with a different couple or character in each book.

You could read just Elemental Legacy but being the OCD reader I am, I would start with Mysteries, then World, then Legacy.   If that's too much, you could probably just do Mysteries,  the Bronze Blade,  and then Legacy,  or possibly just Bronze Blade and then Legacy.  But I would really just read them all as they are great!

Now we are getting to the heart of the relationship of Ben & Tenzin, as they make choices and adjust to their lives together. They learn of a new magical artifact, the Bone Scroll, and make plans to find it. As they go along, we get more time with Gio, B and Sadia,   Chloe and meet Daniel, Carwyn's youngest son, an earth vampire.  So it's enjoyable to catch up with these characters as they go on the hunt.

One of the most compelling aspects for me, was the lush descriptions of Ethiopia. It made me want to know more of its history and current situation.  I'd also like to travel there and learn more about their food.

There is a real progression and learning between Ben and Tenzin.  They have always had complimentary skills.  Tenzin knows a lot of history and about vampires.  Ben has better people skills and strategy and modern knowledge.   They've worked together for about ten years but it's odd now to see their sexual relationship.  Tenzin is used to hiding her thoughts and feelings, not used to sharing.  Ben is still learning how vampire things work and is still feeling young and vulnerable.  They want to share blood but what will that mean?

There are complications because it is in Saba's territory.  Ben & Tenzin plan to find some things Saba wants to "trade" for the bone scroll.  The bone scroll is not originally from her area, and is too dangerous to leave any old place.   Ben is honorable about only "stealing" things from people who originally stole them, to give back to the original owners. Tenzin is a little more clingy to treasure.   I enjoyed their smart strategies in finding and acquiring items.  Their plans are good with an accurate take on the negotiations and the dangers.  Saba just makes everything more complex than it needs to be.

This adventure helps the couple learn more about themselves and their connection.  There is also a path opened for how they will spend some of their time in their future.  I look forward to seeing how that goes and particularly how Ben grows into his new vampire capabilities.

Elizabeth Hunter's final book in the Elemental Legacy series, The Bone Scroll, is one for the record books! I was fortunate to receive an ARC copy. This is a completely spoiler-free review.

In this most recent Ben and Tenzin adventure, Ms. Hunter gives us a deep dive into her extravagant mind and proves that she is the MASTER of the long game. So many threads were unanswered after Dawn Caravan that I wasn't sure one more book would be enough. This book is beautifully imaginative, with plot lines so long in the making only a vampire could remember them all. Ms. Hunter answers all of our questions with ablomb in this final book of the series, while still leaving plenty of room for potential spin offs in the future.

Every time I open an Elizabeth Hunter novel, it feels like I'm visiting cherished family members who live halfway around the globe. Her world building using some of the most beautiful places across the world is unmatched. I can't get enough of Ben and Tenzin! We've watched Ben grow from a street savvy tween into a powerhouse of a young man, with Tenzin always being a constant in his life. Tenzin is a ruthless survivor who learns to love another more than she loves her pride and independence. The pair are magic on the pages- no other characters throughout my lifetime have ever been more endeared to me than these two and their extended families. I'm sad to see this arc conclude, but am hopeful that Ms. Hunter will grace us with their presence in future books!

If you haven't read the other books in the Elemental Legacy series, do NOT start with The Bone Scroll! You will cheat yourself of the incredible journey the reach this conclusion, and will misunderstand exactly how complex this storyline has been. Do yourself a favor and go all the way back to the beginning of the Elemental series, starting with A Hidden Fire and read through.

If you like vampire romance or mysteries, this series will keep you engaged. Fans of K. F. Breene, Shannon Mayer, C. N. Crawford, Kelly St. Clare, and more will find something to love in The Bone Scroll.

This book reaches all the way back to groundwork laid in ‘A Hidden Fire’ and proceeds to string together so many aspects of the subsequent plot lines within all the Elemental series into the most beautiful bow. Or, to put it in terms that Ben and Tenzin might prefer, it feels like the reader is picking a lock: carefully listening as all the tiny-but-important parts click into perfect alignment so that you suddenly can unlock an amazing and unexpected treasure. The evolution of Ben and Tenzin (both individually and together) is such an incredible journey to witness. The details about the cultural significance of the settings and the homage paid to restoring historical artifacts really gave that extra touch to the book that is truly Elizabeth’s speciality at this point. But I think my favourite part was all the little “Tenzin moments” which added a delightful humour throughout the story. Honestly, to quote Tenzin, “English needs better words” to express how much I loved this book. It was THAT good. I pondered how to even review it for way too long and I hope I have done it justice. I was given an early copy to read and I am happy to say that it was everything I needed and more. Despite reading the whole of the Elemental series of books/novellas this one still hit me with some unexpected surprises and made me love all these characters even more. I absolutely, positively recommend this book.

I impatiently waited for this book, and was THURRRILLED to have been fortunate to receive an ARC and here is my unbiased review.
Ben and Tenzin, Gio, B, Saba, Arosh, Chloe, Sadia....OH it was like getting the invite to my dream party!
Hunter is a master at transporting her readers to these ancient, mystical lands filled with history, beauty, mystery and shenanigans! I often find myself stopping and googling the places she takes us to, so I can place myself even deeper into the story! :)
There is a dangerous object, The Bone Scroll, and Ben and Tenzin want to ensure this legendary object (if it actually exists) does not fall into the wrong hands.
Hunter treats us to the brilliance the roles of research, treasure hunting, politics along with a maze of intrigue play in this latest installment. Ben is coming into his power, his role in the Elemental World, while Tenzin learns to accept the changes of having a family and love have brought to her life.
This book moved so well - just right for me - there was action, there was suspense, dramatic moments, and quiet passages.
Not sure if this review will help you or not, but just want to share how much i enjoyed it without giving it all away!

I was highly anticipating this last scheduled ride with Tenzin and Ben. I am so thankful that I was not disappointed in any way, (to be honest, I actually don't think that is possible from Elizabeth Hunter).

This is Tenzin's and Ben's last official mystery, and there are some plot twists I really don't think you'll see coming. One is rather epic, and is spoken by Saba. Daniel is a character I would like to see more of, and the history between him and Dema is a short story in the making. It was wonderful to see Sadia, B and Gio too, and that they were a part of this story.

It was one hell of an emotional ride with these two. Tenzin's inner voice is truly something to listen to. She is a very deep character, and hysterical at times too. Ben has much on his mind too, especially in the Tenzin department. Their barter near the end of the book will most definitely put a smile on your face.

It is very hard to write a review for this book without giving anything away. It was an escape into a world of make belief that just seems so alive when told by Elizabeth Hunter. Her way with words is something to behold, that you just feel everything the characters are feeling and thinking. You laugh and cry with them. The descriptions of Ethiopia are amazing, and you can just imagine yourself there and/or makes you want to visit. It was a ride I didn't want to end. I think they'll have more mysteries to unravel as time goes on.
