Establishment of the Miriam Yusoff-Carmelita Bardelosa Distinguished Research Professorial Chairs in Malay-Polynesian Studies

De La Salle University established the Miriam Yusoff-Carmelita Bardelosa Distinguished Research Professorial Chairs in Malay-Polynesian Studies last March 10 in a virtual ceremony.

The event was spearheaded by the Executive Director of DLSU Southeast Asia Research Center and Hub (SEARCH), Dr. Fernando Santiago and generously supported by businessman, philanthropist, and advocate of human capital development Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Razali bin Dato’ Mohamed Yusoff. DLSU Science Foundation President Br. Armin Luistro FSC was also instrumental in the establishment of the professorial chairs.

The research professorial chairs were named in honor of Dr. Razali’s mother, Mrs. Miriam Yusoff, and, Carmelita, the matriarch of the Bardelosa, who he considers as his second family.

In his message, Dr. Ghazali shared that “once you get wealth from your business, give it back to knowledge.” Believing that real wealth is knowledge, he supported knowledge generation with the establishment of the professorial chairs. He also emphasized the important role of knowledge in Asean connectivity, for one nation to easily connect with the other.

DLSU SEARCH will supervise the professorial chairs that seek to promote the study of Southeast Asia with focus on the Malay-Polynesian people and encourage solidarity between Christians and Muslims.

Three professorial chairs were created on each of the following research areas: Arts and Education (Liberal Arts, Education and Law); Science and Technology (Science, Computer Science and Engineering); and Business and Entrepreneurship (Business and Economics).

The Professorial Chairs will also highlight the following research themes:
a. interfaith dialogue towards peace and prosperity

7th One La Salle Night of Excellence

De La Salle Alumni Association honored outstanding alumni in the bi-annual One La Salle Night of Excellence (OLSNOE) Awards last April 22 via virtual ceremony. OLSNOE recognizes alumni, from among the 16 La Salle District Schools in the country, whose distinguished career and achievements as well as service to the country highlight their Lasallian qualities.

There are three categories bestowed by the De La Salle Alumni Association and these are the DLSAA Lasallian Achievement Awards, DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame Awards, and DLSAA Lasallian Sports Achievement Awards.

The following are the honorees of this year’s 7th OLSNOE Awards:

DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame Award

The DLSAA Sports Hall of Fame Award honors athletes who have shown outstanding performance individually or as part of a team in representing DLSU in officially recognized competitions or who have been members of Philippine delegations in prestigious regional or international sports events, such as the Olympics, Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games, etc. It also recognizes individuals who provide direction and honor to the school’s sports program.

DLSAA Lasallian Achievement Awards

The DLSAA Lasallian Achievement Award honors alumni who have achieved either industrial, managerial, professional, avocational, or public service distinction or series of distinctions. It focuses more on the singular distinctive achievements of the awardee in a single area and, accordingly, principally focuses on tasks rather on the persons.

DLSAA Lasallian Sports Achievement Awards

The DLSAA Lasallian Sports Achievement Award recognizes the athletic achievement or contribution of Lasallian athletes who have not yet exhausted the 20-year prescriptive period. This award almost exclusively focuses on a noteworthy school, national, or international athletic achievement or series of achievements and does not, because of the absence of a time test, necessarily honor both achievement(s) and person.

Lasallian Celebration of 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines

DLSU joins the Philippine Catholic Church in celebrating 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines. Our country continues to be the largest Catholic and Christian nation in Asia. Our customs, language, and history continue to be influenced by the Philippines' Christianization that happened in 1521.

DLSU wishes to be part of this celebration through activities and events that will help Lasallians reflect and examine how the faith has grown over the centuries and how we can keep nurturing this faith in the current context of post-secularism, pluralism, and diversity.

The year-long celebration started on April 7, 2021 and will conclude on April 7, 2022. Coinciding with the 302nd anniversary of the Transitus of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the festivities were launched last April 7 with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and with a message to the community from the University President, Br Ray Suplido FSC.

ONE LA SALLE

Looking back and moving forward: A year with kada-uno

Can you believe that it’s been a year since we started providing temporary shelter for the homeless, healthcare workers, COVID-19 patients, and refugees? What began as efforts to provide momentary refuge through Project Safe Shelters has grown into a more extensive pandemic response -- kada•uno.

kada•uno, which means "each one" or "bawat isa" in Filipino, integrates the efforts of Lasallians and partner institutions in the country and abroad in their shared efforts to aid the most vulnerable in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s been a year, but we're not stopping here. We are currently fundraising for a two-story, twenty-bedroom extension in the hospital annex of the De La Salle University Medical Center to address the continuing congestion of COVID-19 cases in healthcare centers.

Should you wish to make a donation, you may do so through the donation channels found in the poster below.
