Kamala Harris pays tribute to fallen military after tone-deaf tweet

That’s more like it.

Vice President Kamala Harris posted a more fitting tribute to America’s military Sunday, a day after drawing online heat for telling her fellow countrymen to “enjoy the long weekend.”

“Throughout our history our service men and women have risked everything to defend our freedoms and our country,” read Harris’ message Sunday morning. “As we prepare to honor them on Memorial Day, we remember their service and their sacrifice.”

On Saturday afternoon, Harris’ official account bizarrely posted a smiling snap of the vice president alongside her earlier message, drawing rebukes from supporters and opponents alike.

The response to Sunday’s message from the vice president on Twitter was mixed, with some users saying it was too little, too late. Others took issue with Harris not specifically mentioning military members who had lost their lives in combat.

Former Trump 2020 campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh suggested that Harris had sent the Sunday tweet “24 hours after googling ‘Memorial Day.’ “

“Clean up aisle 5…” chimed in Fox News contributor Deneen Borelli.

The “enjoy the long weekend” tweet was still up as of Sunday afternoon.

Also Sunday, President Biden attended a Memorial Day commemoration ceremony in New Castle, Del., not far from his Wilmington home.

The president will also take part in the official observance of Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery Monday.
