Amr Selim Born 1960 Graduated from Taha Hussein Secondary School in 1978 He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Department of Philosophy, Cairo University, in 1982. He won the award for the best pianist in the primary, preparatory and secondary levels in the East Cairo Educational District. He was a student of Mr. Youssef Clarian in western music playing and Mr. Ahmed El Mahalawy in eastern music playing. He won the award of best keyboard player for four consecutive years across all Egyptian universities. He founded a band to re-introduce Egyptian and Arabic songs in 1978 with different instruments and flavor. The band then grew to become a full musical group with its own songs. Through it, he introduced different young talents to the scene such as Maha Kamal and Sherif Abdel Wahab. By doing so, he brought back the idea of a “duet” into the music scene, which was absent at this time. He composed the soundtracks for a number of films such as “Al Horoub Ela El Kema”, “Al etehad al nesaey” and “El wazeer gaay” as well as the soundtracks for a number of theatrical plays such as “Al hadsa”, “wagaa demagh”, “magd w gholb” among other works. He composed and orchestrated many Ramadan Fawazir for Nelly, Sherihan, and Sabreen. Furthermore, he played countless Arabic songs on the Western instrument “piano” in his own distinct and unique style. Collaborated with several singers such as Mohamed El Helou, Ali El Hajjar, Iman El Bahr Darwish and currently with Medhat Saleh.
