The Beautiful Barringtons #3

The Marquess Method

Rate this book
Lady Theodosia Barrington is practically begging to be ruined.

That’s the assumption of the Marquess of Haven after spying Theodosia at a house party given by the Duke of Granby. After his father left him little else but a title and a crumbling estate, Haven is in desperate need of an heiress. Not only is Theodosia rich as Croesus and beautiful, but she’s also a Barrington. Her brothers are the Duke of Averell and Leo Murphy, the two men Haven holds responsible for his financial difficulties.

Theodosia is the solution to all of Haven’s problems.

Lady Theodosia has long been infatuated with the Earl of Blythe. In an effort to prove her affection and, perhaps, induce him to offer for her, Theodosia paints a scandalous self-portrait of herself for Blythe as a gift. The small token of affection is incredibly improper.

She regrets sending the miniature to Blythe almost immediately.

Desperate to save her reputation before it can be destroyed by her own stupidity, Theodosia makes another rash decision. Retrieve the miniature from Blythe's home.

Except, it isn't Blythe she finds waiting for her, but Haven.

And her own ruination.

Well, I think this author likes one of her main characters to be fools. In this case it was the heroine. But I didn't mind so much because I felt like she was acting very much her age. What I did mind was that it took her way to long to grow into herself and mature.

She made a terrible mistake right in the beginning of the story and did not own up to that mistake. Instead she blamed the hero for the aftermath, and I thought that was incredibly unfair.

She was so hostile towards him that I wanted to slap some sense in her. Everybody was looking down their noses towards him when he did absolutely nothing bad. On the contrary, if not for him she would have been ruined much earlier. Even in his revange mind the hero was honorable. Out of all the heroes from this series, this one is the most interesting and the most honorable one. He was a starving sweetheart.

Back to complaining about the heroine, she is the kind of woman that says one thing and experts you to do the opposite of what she just asked you to do. Very immature in my opinion. But thanks to the hero I found this book very satisfactory.

4 Stars

This is going to be a quick review, uncharacteristic of me, but really, I promise, because let's face it, my skills are limited, and I am running out of creative ways to describe how much I love Kathleen Ayers's work.

Things that I liked
- The Writing: I Love, love, love Ms Ayer's style.
- The Trope: Ruined/ Compromised, wedded in a scandal, marriage of convenience with underlying tones of revenge, enemies to lovers and unrequited love.
- The Plot: Lovely story, very angsty and emotional. Slightly ostentatious.
- The Romance: Very argumentative, sometimes punishing, but not always irritating.
- The Hero: Amazing, poor fellow. Your heart just goes out to him.
- The Heroine: Good character development (thankfully), artistic.

Things that I did not like
- The Heroine: For the most part, Theo was insecure and shallow without reason. She was constantly judging and jumping to conclusions about Ambrose. She was slow on the uptake for someone who is supposed to be intelligent.
- The Sub-plot: It was a little too dramatic, even for my taste. The reveal happened too late.
- The Epilogue: Meh

My Recommendation
I should have paced myself with this series and spread out the joy. Now I have to wait till 3rd Feb for the next one, and God knows how long until Phaedra and Olivia's books come out. No matter, there is still another series by this author I can read till then.

Lady Theodosia is infatuated with the Earl of Blythe...so much so that she paints a scandalous self-portrait of herself as a gift for his birthday. But, the miniature unexpectedly falls into the hands of Ambrose Collingwood, Marquess of Haven; and in the process of getting it back, the two are caught in a compromising position!

This is the third book in the Beautiful Barrington's series. I would recommend reading them in order to not miss out on the family dynamic. Also, this book begins at a house party from the second story.

Ambrose is in desperate need of an heiress. His family's fortunes were lost at Theo's brother's club and marrying Theo kills two birds with one stone: revenge and replenishing his coffers. Still, he likes Theo and has hesitated ruining her despite previous opportunities. Theo, meanwhile, is much less thrilled about being forced to marry Ambrose.

This was a quick, easy read but I just didn't connect to these characters the way that I did with the previous two books (which both earned five star from me). Haven's commentary of Theo's refusal to wear her glasses, and Theo's throwing her crush on Blythe in Haven's face, were meant to be light-hearted ribbing between the two but - for me - it fell flat. There was also a lull in the middle of the book as Theo came into her own, but Haven was relegated to the background. Things picked up at the end but I was left with questions. I don't know if they'll be addressed in Leo's story, but I'm really looking forward to it!

Tropes: Compromised, Revenge

Steam: 3

* I received a copy from the author and this is my honest review.

The Marquess Method, by Kathleen Ayers. I just want to stump and scream over this book. I need to send a shout out to the book gods for delivering such a wonderfully written, romantic book. The writer did a phenomenal job of bringing two characters together that exquisitely played off each other. I have never read a more truer two people that should be a husband and wife then Theo and Ambrose.
I was absolutely delighted at reading their unforgettable love story. Believe me when I say that I will always remember these two. I think that they are my favorite romantic couple of all time. The plot to the book was outstanding. I certainly didn’t see a number of the situations that Ambrose and Theo found themselves in, coming.
I enjoyed the pace of the book. The drama of the story I didn’t find overly dramatic. I definitely enjoyed Theo’s strong, independent woman character. Ambrose, character is a meticulously suave gentleman who stalks his prey at a birthday party. You will enjoy reading his character. There are a number of moments that I thought were humorous. I did giggle a few times. All the characters brought forward their own interesting personalities that add to this intriguing love story. Thank you to the writer for writing a love story that brings the joy of reading a story about love and complete happiness. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

Theo Barrington has always considered herself to be the plain one in a family of out of this world beautiful women. She retreated into her studio and her art until Lord Blythe catches her eye. While she is throwing herself in Blythe's way trying to win him, his cousin the Marquess of Haven finds himself entranced by Theo. He has a plan to compromise her for revenge, but he eventually starts wanting her for more reasons than that.

I love Haven. He is absolutely the kind of hero that I want to read about. Theo was frustrating in the beginning, but she did grow throughout the story. By the end I was really rooting for this couple. Kathleen Ayers writes such fun and entertaining stories. The characters and the plots are so engaging. They're steamy and full of emotion. I can read her books in one sitting, and I can't do that with a lot of authors. This was another strong one in the series, and I'm so excited for Leo's story!

Great book with so many prickly people. The H had loved the h for some time, she didn't like him at all. So when they are compromised, she's horrified and he's thrilled to get what he wanted. I loved the plot and the surprisingly good murder mystery.

Ooo this book was GOOD. I see why it’s most people’s favourite in the series 👀

Our impoverished marquess hero (his dad gambled everything away, even though our hero begged the gaming hell owner not to let him) needed an heiress. And who better than the legitimate half-sister of said gaming hell owner? Because the only thing better than money is when it comes with a side of revenge.

I was obsessed with these characters. Our heroine was a painter and described things in terms of pigment names (my pigment nerd heart was fluttering). And I loved how she made some major mistakes in the beginning.

And this hero! A strong character motif can really go either way, imo. And this “tomcat” hero was so so good. From his True Neutral alignment, to his unnerving gaze, his prickly yet calculating aloofness, he was such a vibe.

That said, this contained a (very random) pet peeve of mine—the ‘he originally pursued her for a bad reason but fell in love with her instead, now she'll find out and doubt everything’ romance plot. Yet the reason this didn’t drop down to a 3 star reading experience (like it did to the book I reviewed yesterday) is because the plot delivered so much angsty desperation that I was still having a darn good time!

4.5 stars, rounded up.

Desperate to win the affections of the Earl of Blythe, Lady Theodosia “Theo” Barrington, sister to the Duke of Averell, paints a very risque miniature of herself as a gift to the earl – but has second thoughts about giving it to him and tries to retrieve it before he can find it, but when she enters his study – it is nowhere to be found, but she is not alone, the Marquess of Haven, the last man Theo wants to see is there. A man she despises and the man she shared a passionate kiss with months ago, thinking he was Blythe.

Ambrose Collingwood, the Marquess of Haven is impoverished, thanks to his reckless, grieving late father, who gambled away his family's fortune, which included his sister’s dowry. But Haven doesn’t place all the blame on his father, he also blames Leo Murphy (Theo’s illegitimate brother) the owner of the pleasure club Elysium for not cutting off his father, even after Haven met with him and asked him to turn his father away. Murphy was unapologetic and even told Haven to find an heiress to marry. So he did – Murphy’s own sister! But much to his surprise, he actually likes Theo and while he has had plenty of opportunities to ruin her, he has held back. However, fate seems to have deemed it time, because he was in the study waiting for Blythe when Theo stormed in and threw herself at him trying to find the box he had taken from the chair – she had her hands under his jacket when Lady Blythe, the earl’s mother walked in.

To avoid another scandal, Theo knows she must marry Haven, but fights it tooth and nail – even though she finds him attractive and amusing – not that she would EVER admit that to another living soul. But by the time they marry, she has resigned herself to a life with him, and after an amazing wedding night, she is feeling optimistic, that is until he says something incredibly insulting and causes a rift that he will have to do some spectacular groveling to win her back. In the meantime, Theo is a bit overwhelmed by the magnitude of the work that needs doing at his estate but is willing to give it her best. She immediately makes friends with his sister but is a bit wary of his uncle – who is a drunk, but who Haven feels obligated to. Haven admits he has fallen hard for Theo and will do whatever is necessary to win her back, he knows he has to tell her the truth, but will she understand and forgive him or will she be lost to him forever?

This was a well-written, well-paced, amazing story that held my attention from the first page until the very last word and left me wanting more! The book has likable characters, witty banter, steamyish love scenes, secrets, lies, a twist or two that keep things interesting, surprising revelations, and finally a sigh-worthy HEA. I did find Theo a little annoying at the beginning, but she won me over long before the end of the book and I ended up loving her, and Haven had me in his corner from the first scene. This is the 3rd book in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone title. I am happy to recommend this title, I have not read the two previous books, but I am hooked and will definitely be checking them out ASAP!

3.5 stars. It's not a bad book, but I thought it could have been better. The first half was a tad tedious as it tends to get repetitive with Theodosia being referred to as brazen, reckless, etc (words to that effect, yes, I get it-she's reckless). The second half was much better as the story picked up. I thought Theo was immature and she only matured in the final 20%. The hero, Ambrose, was another misunderstood rake whose reputation was much worse than he actually was. So, an okay read, but I think her other books are better than this one (I have been under the weather these past couple of days, so it could have contributed to my lack of enjoyment of this book).

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Haven and Theodosia are one of those rare couples who can tear my heart out, then fill me with joy. This book had everything; revenge, intrigue, and off-the-charts soul-searing passion. The pull of these two was sensual and raw. The characters were well defined and had tremendous personalities. The plot was enthralling. It was an intricate, lovingly written journey.

Ambrose, the Marquess of Haven, is destitute and desperate for a large dowry. Lady Theodosia (Theo) Barrington is a be-speckled, free-spirited artist with an enormous fortune. Theo is in love with another man. Through a series of bad luck for Theo and providence for Haven, he sees his desires met, and Theo is sentenced to a fate that terrifies her.

Yes, Haven is a fortune hunter, but behind that façade, he is much more. His strong conscious surprised me; he held such depth. I fell in love with Haven; he is my new book boyfriend! Theo is adorable. Her creativity, impulsiveness, and giving heart endeared her. Although she views herself as an oddity, Haven’s strong feelings for Theo melted my heart! The physical connection was off the charts. Their attraction was primal and undeniable.

The Marquess Method is the third book in the Beautiful Barringtons series. All three books are brilliantly and lovingly written with such care. Kathleen weaves a romance in an organic way that resonates with the reader long after the book is put down. Every sentence is written strategically, ensuring the audience is spellbound. The plot is quick-witted, and I found myself laughing out loud; at other times, my heart ached for the couple. This is a rich, vivid world with backdrops and a plot that steals the reader’s heart. I cannot recommend this book enough!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this story more than the previous one.

I adored the awkward hero with the awkward revenge plot that failed before it had even begun.
Even the uncle was awkward. Poor family. Must be genetic.

I also liked the heroine being the silly chit that we read in the background of other books, acting stupid to gain the attention of the hero. Only her turns out to be a different guy.

I did have a few issues that bothered me enough to knock off a star.

What's with the uncle and the tree?

Also, the dislike the family first has for Granby and then for Haven, even after both sister have clearly fallen in love and are being adored right back bothered me. Granby was a jerk, but Andromeda forgave him. The book practically starts with Theo bad mouthing the duke. Haven had good reasons to at least dislike Leo. But the animosity runs deep all the way to the end.

Finally, I can't seem to grasp the social standing of the Barringtons. Sometimes it's 'her brother is a duke after all' and sometimes it's 'the barely tolerated brazen Barringtons'. Granby is also a duke. But it has no impact that two supposedly powerful dukes have formed an alliance. Society treats all the Barringtons with barely concealed disdain. They have status and money. That should be enough to at least keep the disdain hidden better.

The Review
The third installment of the Beautiful Barrington's series was a good read, but not my favorite so far.

Haven is out for revenge, but it felt like a weak excuse for him to want revenge for. His father gambled away everything in the wake of his wife's death, but there is nothing that implicates Theodosia's brothers as doing anything other than owing the hell where he lost most of it. So it felt like a bit of a stretch. But, Haven falls for Theodosia right away so its a win-win for him! Unfortunately, she is obsessed with his friend the Earl of Blythe. Even after Haven and Theo kiss and the sparks fly, she is still convinced Blythe is the one for her. And she doesn't let Haven forget it, even after they are married, which makes her kind of sound petty and mean. They get married because they were caught in a compromising situation, but their attraction to each other is obvious!

The story definitely was more interesting as the plot went along; some good twists at the end to bring the story together better; some I didn't see coming!

While the Marquess of Haven seemed like a grumpster, he was soooo swoony in love with Theo. Their story was just perfect. There were twists that I did not see coming that made this even better!

I'm looking forward to Leo's book 😊

Just finished Kathleen Ayers new book "The Marquess Method" . Now I will be chasing a book high for a bit.

Of all the books published this year that I have pre-ordered - this one was by far the best.

This is the third in her series "The Beautiful Barringtons". I thought my favorite in the series would be "The Theory of Earls" because it was a great book, but "The Marquess Method" completely steals the show for me.

While it can be read as a stand-alone- I strongly suggest you read the book prior to it- "The Design of Dukes". About 30% of the way in, I found myself pausing in my reading and searching through "The Design of Dukes" for any and all references to the Marquess of Haven. The character development begins in that book, and I adored everything about him.

I could go on and on, but I will end with two things -

1. Never have I considered spending $12.99 (!!!!!) on a paperback book - especially when I own the digital copy - but I am strongly considering it because I love the book that much. I suspect I will also buy an audio version should one be released. (Updated to add - I am now the official owner of all of Ayers' books offered in print)

2. The Marquess of Haven is making me reconsider Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent as my favorite hero. (I know. I'm also stunned by this!)

I know some will wonder about the heat level. I meant to keep up with it but was so dang engrossed by the story I forgot. I skimmed through when I finished it and I *think* it is 🔥🔥🔥.

Phew I'm glad that's done.

Theo is just...a trial. Haven is kind and noble and delicious. I expect I'll only re-read this to read his highlights and to wallow in Theo being taken to task by simply EVERYONE for stupidity, shrewishness, and ridiculous behavior. That part was awesome. She deserved it and more. The epilogue is dumb.

Caught in a compromising situation Lady Theodosia Barrington with the improvised Ambrose Collingwood Marquess of Haven. They are forced to marry.

We find out that Haven always loved and wanted Theo. There is a plot twist that I didn't realize was happening concerning Ambrose's uncle Erasmus.

The story is faced paced. Good banter between the couple and other characters.

But what I didn't like was the improvement of Ambrose. I personally don't like stories with improvised aristocrats. I thought when the truth was found out all his family's wealth should have been returned to him. I don't like stories where the villain gets off with a slap on the hand. Also, the quick way the story just ended. It needs more of an epilog or ending.

The Marquess Method is the third book in Kathleen Ayers’s The Beautiful Barringtons series. It can be read completely as a stand alone.
Lady Theodosia Barrington has been blindly infatuated with the Earl of Blythe for months. In a final attempt to get him to offer for her she paints a very scandalous miniature as a gift which she leaves in his study. When she realises that her affections are not returned, she is desperate to get it back before Blythe discovers it. But to her misfortune it lands in the hands of the very annoying and disturbing Marquess of Haven. Caught in a compromising position whilst attempting to retrieve it from his person, Theo now faces a lifetime with the last person she would ever have thought to tie herself to.
Ambrose, Marquess of Haven has been attracted to Lady Theo since he first met her. He has been left impoverished by the reckless gambling of his father - aided he is sure by Leo Murphy - owner of gambling hell Elysium and the illegitimate half-brother of Lady Theo.
Harbouring ideas of compromising her to exact his revenge, he is surprised when the lady herself engineers her own ruination. Despite not being able to go through with his idea of compromising Theo, Ambrose still grabs the opportunity to restore his finances whilst also having the lady of his choice. But when Theo finds out the connection between her brother and Ambrose’s reduced circumstances, will Ambrose be able to convince Theo that she is his first and only choice?
I truly enjoyed Ambrose and Theo’s story. I wasn’t sure I’d like Theo since she was at first so infatuated with Blythe and I don’t like stories where the H or h are hankering after someone else, but it was quickly apparent that her feelings for Blythe were just a girlish infatuation that were as nothing to the feelings that Ambrose raised in her. I liked that after her initial misgivings, Theo took on the daunting prospect of restoring Ambrose’s home, coped with his motley staff and dastardly uncle with grace and determination.
Ambrose was a different sort of hero for me. He wasn’t the supremely confident and wealthy Lord of the Manor type. He was proud and a little rough around the edges. He was impoverished but worked hard for his sister and tried his best to improve his situation. I loved his quirks, his being slightly unkempt all the time and his huge appetite!
As a couple Theo and Ambrose were always sparking off each other and there is a lot of teasing banter in their relationship as well as a huge smattering of passion. I liked that the banter always held an undercurrent of affection towards each other. They sometimes said hurtful things but each understood the other and even though there were a few misunderstandings it didn’t go on for too long.
As with all Kathleen’s books the writing is excellent and the secondary characters really well fleshed out. I loved Jacinta and hope she might get her own story down the line. Ambrose’s uncle was a very nasty piece of work and deserved his comeuppance although I felt he maybe got off very lightly compared to what he actually did.
The epilogue did feel a bit rushed and left me with questions rather than answers but I suppose it is leading to the next book in the series which will be Leo’s.
I was gifted an ARC of this book but the views are my own and I really recommend you pick this up.

The Beautiful Barringtons Series #3
✒️ Kathleen Ayers

Lady Theodosia Barrington is practically begging to be ruined.
That’s the assumption of the Marquess of Haven after spying Theodosia at a house party given by the Duke of Granby. After his father left him little else but a title and a crumbling estate, Haven is in desperate need of an heiress. Not only is Theodosia rich as Croesus and beautiful, but she’s also a Barrington. Her brother is Leo Murphy, owner of Elysium and the man Haven holds responsible for ruining his father.
Theodosia is the solution to all of Haven’s problems.
Lady Theodosia has long been infatuated with the Earl of Blythe. In an effort to prove her affection and perhaps induce him to offer for her, Theodosia paints a scandalous self-portrait of herself for Blythe as a birthday gift. The small token of affection is incredibly improper. Her behavior reckless.
She regrets gifting the miniature to Blythe immediately.
Desperate to save her reputation before it can be destroyed and escape humiliation, Theodosia makes another rash decision. Retrieve the miniature from Blythe’s study.
Except the miniature is gone. And the only thing waiting for her is the Marquess of Haven.
And her own ruination.

𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Will her shameful attitude blind her to his true and kind self …

I confess I was not much impressed by Theodosia in the previous book, she was such a dimwit and there were nothing to endear her to me. Why I much wondered how the author would redeem her and pull her up from the stupid infatuated rude ninnyhammer she impersonated until now.
So I was much relieved when she early finally shred her blinders. From there I thought I could really enjoy the story. Alas, my reservations about Theo’s persona lasted too long to really warm to her, for most of the book, she is a spoiled bratty girl, not much a grown up woman.
Ambrose is sure mercenary in his view of life but he is also himself the victim of some other greedy being, and he is drowning in a sea of debts, not even of his doing. He is also conscious of his own flaws. And while he would have willingly ruined Theo, he never took the step, his conscience forbidding him such a threat, until the lady jumped herself in, and made a show to do the deed herself.
Oh Theo did not move from a total fool to the clever young woman everyone in her family praised her to be in an instant. Once she made herself unsuitable, she has the nerve to be angry at him for her own illthougt action, when she needed no one else than herself to cause her perdition. And for too long she was a rather spiteful creature throwing her venom at him just to hurt him when she only ever had only one person to blame for her predicament, herself.
While I adored Ambrose, he is not to be absolved of faults, but he is only the victim of his circumstances, he did nothing to cause his destitute state. He scraped everything he could to salvage as much as he could, yet each time, his impoverished state is thrown at his face, and Theo is among those who hurle it at him. Gesture after gesture, he shows her how he cares for her, he is some times awkward with his words, but Theo instead of listening, prefers to see the wrong about him instead to truly listening to his words and actions even if they are fumbling. And at the first trial, she throws the door to his face.

I just think the resolution was too quick and easy with unresolved questions.
I do not understand how there is no real angst nor real comeuppance for the villain after all the wrong and hurt he did, there is also the unsolved dilemma about Ambrose’s lost wealth, will he get it back as after all he had been robbed of it, and Theo’s brother was a willing participant in his ruin.

The Marquess Methos is the third book in The Beautiful Barringtons historical romance series, however, each book can be read as a standalone. This is the first book I’ve read by Ayers and I will definitely be reading more! I will be immediately picking up books 1 and 2 of this series as I absolutely adored this read and I am dying to know more about the other Barringtons. We get to meet several of them in this book and I love that the characters clearly intersect between books and we get cameos of each character in other books in the series to give some insight into how the characters are getting on.
I was thoroughly entertained from the first chapter and couldn’t put it down from there. It’s rare for me that I’m so engrossed right from the start, but I couldn’t help but be captivated by the characters from their very first scene.

Theo was bold, brazen, artistic, stubborn and so wonderfully relatable. Though she feels as if she doesn’t stand out, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her right alongside Haven. And Haven was deliciously enticing and his banter with Theo had my laughing the whole way through, I couldn’t help but smile and laugh continuously throughout the book for how Haven and Theo made me feel.

And as someone who wears glasses and bumps into things when I don’t, I strongly related to Theo and really appreciated this aspect - not only was it hilarious to see Haven panic for her and Theo’s stubbornness but why do heroines never wear glasses?! They can’t all have perfect eyesight! I really appreciated that the author giving Theo an attribute not commonly seen in book protagonists.

Whilst I absolutely loved our two main characters and couldn’t get enough of their banter and flirting, the story also delivered some excellent side characters. Each character felt very well-rounded and layered and I can’t wait to see more of them. One that really stood out for me was Jacinda and I’m hoping we get a book for her one day as I love the disability rep and would love to see her get her own beautiful happily ever after to show not every heroine has to be typically perfect.
I was also incredibly curious about Leo Murphy as there were some strong hints as to what he’s up to so I’m assuming we’ll get a book for him very soon which I already cannot wait for!

As well as a full cast of diverting characters I also thoroughly enjoyed the setting. I thought that the amount of time before and after the marriage was perfect. Although I was very excited for the marriage to happen, I really enjoyed the run-up and it felt like we got the perfect amount of time for them to form an attraction and some sort of relationship before the marriage was sealed. And post marriage, the sex was delightfully steamy, and I thought the author put a good twist on it by having Theo be so brazen and more knowledgeable than the average historical romance heroine which was a nice change of pace.

The underlying plot was very intriguing, and I couldn’t wait for the truth to come out and to see how all the machinations would play out. The ending added some high-intensity drama and I liked seeing how all the hints spread throughout the story came together at the end.

Overall, it was an excellent read, I was captivated the whole way through and couldn’t put it down – definitely a read-in-one-session type book! The writing was well done and balanced out the story with a perfect blend of light and funny and full of angst with an underlying level of intrigue. I just adored the story and would highly recommend it if you like steamy historical romance with a guaranteed happily ever after.

A huge thank you to the author for the ebook ARC. All thoughts are my own and are not influenced by this.

This is my first book by Kathleen, but will not be the last. I planned to get books one and two of this series. This book can easily be read as a standalone.
The new Marquess of Haven, Ambrose is impoverished totally broke thanks to his father. After the death of his wife, he started drinking and gambling in his grieving. He lost everything to an Elite club called Elysium. Ambrose had gone to the club's owner, one Leo Murphy to get him to stop loaning credit to his father. Leo told him he better find an heiress to solve his problems. Which is exactly what he did. He found and started following Lady Theodosia Barrington, wealthy sister of a Duke and the sister of Leo Murphy !! Revenge is sweet or would be if Ambrose didn't have a conscience. He soon founds out Theo can't hardly at all without her glasses which she refuses to wear for vanity's sake. This makes for some hilarious situations. Ambrose and her are always bumming into each other. Ambrose is coming to care for Theo a lot. The attraction between is hard to ignore by either. Theo thinks she is in love with one of his best friends, The Earl of Blythe. Only one problem Blythe is a rake, and knows women fall at his feet due to his looks and title. He like using this to be able to flirt with many women. He finds Theo stumbling around funny in a cruel way. Theo will not listen to her sisters who tell her she is make a cake of herself over him. All try to her she is going to end up in trouble if she doesn't stop. Theo is a wonderful painter and comes an idea in her over the top infatuation of Blythe to paint him a miniature. A very revealing one for this birthday. She leaves it in his study but them she watches him with all the other ladies and knows how wrong she was. Now she must get the miniature back before anyone see's it or she is ruined. Unfortunately, or fortunately, Ambrose is in the study and they are caught in an embracing scene by the biggest gossip in the ton, Blythe's mother !
Oh my, now the plot thickens. How will Ambrose and Theo marriage turn out when many secrets start coming out. With strange happens at Greenbriar going one, the mystery of what happen to his sister. The remaking of the shell of what was once a wonderful home. Mixed in is the misunderstanding between Ambrose and Theo as they both assume or suspect what the other is thinking. This is the most wonderful romance between two people who have been wronged by so many. This is a book you will not forget for all time. I know I will be rereading it for sure.
I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

The Marquess Method by Kathleen Ayers
The Beautiful Barringtons #3

Intriguing, immersive, interesting introduction to an author I have not read before but would gladly read again. This book was all that I hoped it would be…and then that little bit more.

What I liked:
* Lady Theodosia “Theo” Barrington: a young woman that seemed foolish and besotted in the beginning but someone I grew to adore as the story progressed.
* Ambrose Collingwood, Marquess oof Haven: A man that was much more than he first appeared to be with fiery temper, a deep capacity to love, and more romantic than he would first have seemed to be. I really liked him.
* The way the compromising of Theo occurred – it felt believable and drew me in keeping me reading to find out how it would all play out.
* Jacinda Collingwood: sister to Ambrose and someone that deserved so much better than the lot life handed to her – hoping that she will come out okay in the future and have a story of her own.
* How Theo came into her own and grew from the first to the last page of the book.
* That Greenbriar, Haven’s estate, was given a new life through the infusion of funds that came to Haven.
* The relationship between Ambrose and Theo – though often dramatic and emotional it was exactly what I would expect of the two.
* The deep love that grew between the main couple
* That the supporting characters were fleshed out allowing me to “see” them.
* That I was able to understand the story without having to have read the previous books – although – I am curious what happened in those books.
* The unveiling of an unexpected culprit and the way that person was to be dealt with.

What I didn’t like:
* The culprit – so easy to dislike and be happy to see the end of!
* That there was so much that Theo and Ambrose had to work through BUT it also made the story that much better.
* Wondering what would happen next and who will star in the story.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to IndiePenPR and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The third Barringston sibling in this case Theodosia Barrington is short sighted but a gifted portrait painter and infatuated with the golden handsome Earl of Blythe. She is determined to marry him and concocts a way to ensure his affections for her and a marriage proposal.

Although the daughter and sister of a Duke, the Barrington sisters are looked down upon by some of the ton including the countess of Blythe (the mother) who loathes the idea of Theo as a prospective Bride for her son. (If you have not read the previous books in the series do grab them, it will make it all the more fun to read this book).

In comes the most improvised marquess, Ambrose L the Marquess of Haven, friends of Granby and Blythe and who seems to hold a grudge with Barrington Brother Leo Murphy (not the Duke Brother- both brothers run a gaming house Elysium). Théo has had some mishaps with Haven, from their very initial meeting. Without her glasses she flounders around which people mistake for clumsiness, well it is in a way, but she, Theo wishes to appear “non blue stocking-like” and ends up bumping into things and on one accasion spilling wine on Haven’s one decent evening coat; and he has no choice but to borrow Blythes’. The author creates humorous relationship even between the friends when Blythe can be at daggers with Haven but will still loan him his good evening coat.
Haven has set his eyes on Theo but he is somewhat confused when his initial plans to seduce Theo seem to topple, for he begins to genuinely like the blue sticking gal. He comes to her rescue, when Theo in one of her misguided adventures which involves a semi revealing self mini portrait herself, lands right into Havens lap and the inevitable scandal, compromised!! Haven and Theo are to wed and the adventures begin from there. The Barrington dowager duchess, (who has her own book btw), does not force her daughter into the marriage, but encourages Theo to see better reason. The Barrington family are all bewildered by the impoverished Haven with a huge appetite (for food), and his reasons to marry Theo. There is so much fun and romance in the book, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Once Theo reaches the ramshackle Haven estate the narrative gets even better. A definite must read Ayers book.
The sibling relationships is well drawn out and the romance is fun.

Mrs Ayers is a newer historical romance author and her books are engaging and writes for a readers who enjoy good narratives and strong characters and staying loyal to the regency era.

Pls pardon typos if any:)

Passionate, wickedly witty and deliciously engaging, historical romance readers will find much to enjoy in Kathleen Ayers’ latest novel The Marquess Method.

The Marquess of Haven is in desperate need of an heiress. After inheriting his title from his father, Haven found himself saddled with an estate that was mortgaged to the hilt that was hemorrhaging money! The only way he can reverse the estate’s dismal fortunes is if marries somebody in possession of a very large dowry – which makes Lady Theodosia Barrington the ideal candidate for Haven! Not only is she rich and beautiful, but she also happens to be the sister of the man Haven holds responsible for his father’s ruin. Can Haven convince Lady Theodosia to become his convenient bride?

Lady Theodosia has been infatuated with the Earl of Blyth for years. There is nobody in the Ton who can dream of coming close to the man she simply cannot stop herself from thinking about. The time has come for Theodosia to prove to Blyth how she really feels about him so she paints a scandalous self-portrait which she intends to give to him. Theodosia knows that this kind of behavior is not considered proper for an unmarried woman, but she decides to gift Blyth the portrait anyways – even though she regrets this course of action immediately. Theodosia vows to do whatever it takes to get the portrait back before anyone finds out and she is ruined – only when she goes to retrieve the miniature she is shocked to her very core when she finds it gone. But there is worse to come for Theodosia when she finds something infinitely more scandalous and shocking waiting for her in Blythe’s study: the Marquess of Haven!

Sparks immediately begin to sizzle between the two of them as they engage in a game of seduction and sensuality that might just lead them to the last thing Theodosia and Haven were expecting: everlasting love.

Kathleen Ayers’ The Marquess Method sparkles with desire, danger, heat and humor. The witty banter between Haven and Theodosia sizzles, the chemistry between them is electrifying and the passion so red-hot it will certainly get readers’ temperatures rising. With a spirited heroine, a gorgeous hero, twists and turns galore and plenty of emotional intensity to keep readers gripped, Kathleen Ayers is sure to delight historical romance readers with her latest novel, The Marquess Method.
