Man dies after being gored at Spanish bull-running festival

A man bled to death after he was repeatedly attacked at a running of the bulls in eastern Spain, authorities said.

The 55-year-old Spanish man, who was not identified, gored by the bull at a festival in Onda, resulting in a wound to his left thigh that perforated his artery, the town council and emergency services said Saturday.

He died later that day in a hospital in the nearby town of Villareal after hemorrhaging blood from a wound, officials said.

The town’s council canceled the rest of the bull-running events at the festival in the wake of the injury.

The incident was the first bull-running fatality since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted this summer.

Critics in recent years have called for bull-running festivals to be abolished, citing safety concerns.

In 2019, a father of three was gored to death after he tripped and fell at a festival known as Torico de la Cuerda.
