  • ✨ A Tribute to a Legend, Claudia Jenkins ✨ Today, we honor the incredible legacy of Claudia Jenkins, who recently passed away at the age of 86. Dr. Chad Johnson, our Lab Director, shares his heartfelt memories of his mentor and colleague. Claudia was a trailblazing scientist, leading the endocrine and dairy testing labs at The Ohio State University's Dairy Science Department until 1981. Junior scientists were often intimidated by her brilliance and directness. "Tough but fair" perfectly described her. Claudia's sharp sense of humor and strong opinions, always backed by solid reasoning, made her truly unique. As an African American woman, Claudia's scientific career was particularly groundbreaking. In Ohio, she collaborated with Dr. Johnson and Dr. Bill Baird to perfect techniques like embryo culture, cryopreservation, and ICSI. Claudia was both a diligent scientific mentor and a moral compass. Together, they designed labs and developed embryology programs across Ohio, Georgia, and North Carolina. Working alongside Claudia in Atlanta was a privilege. She was a beacon of stability, quality, and wisdom. Dr. Johnson often recalls how he trained new andrologists and embryologists: “I turned them over to Claudia and, if they survived her 3-week tutelage, they were great.” We regret not having the chance to host Claudia at Bloom Fertility to see us work with the INVOcell. Our many successes are a testament to her enduring influence, and we hope she would be proud of our efforts to provide accessible care to all patients. 🌟 Rest in peace, Claudia.   • Spotlight #2! Mikesha J. Middlebrook, BSN, RN Mikesha was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan but is really a southern girl at heart from spending summers with her grandparents in South Carolina. She received her undergraduate nursing degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and has been a women's health nurse for 20+ years and an infertility nurse for 12 years. She is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Nurses Professional Group and in 2020 was appointed to ASRM's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force. As a young girl of age 12, Mikesha experienced being in the birthing room when her sister was born. It was there she observed the difference between doctor and nurse, how they each cared for her mother. Fascinated and excited by this, she decided then, that she would pursue a career in medicine and work in women’s health. She loves helping families reach their dream of expanding their family. Mikesha knows firsthand what her patients are going through. An infertility patient herself, she understands the struggle, desire, pain, sadness and joy that comes with the journey. Married, and mother to two beautiful children, Mikesha enjoys the time she spends with her family. She loves to cruise and travel with them. On her off time you may find her delving into her favorite books – The Harry Potter Series or anything sci-fi/fantasy related. When you meet Mikesha you will understand why she lives by her favorite quote: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” by Maya Angelou. #nurses #huganurse

  • In honor of our nurses, we're shining a spotlight this week on our #bloom team! Cynthia was born in Richmond VA, and raised in Hinesville, GA. She comes to us with vast experience in the women’s healthcare space serving previously as a labor and delivery nurse. After seven years she began to focus more on patients who had begun their journey to parenthood, with infertility treatment. Being part of the delivery process, particularly in those scenarios made an indelible impression, motivating her to learn more about the fertility process, and learning to guide patients on their journey. She loves caring for patients and is truly humbled each time a fertility patient delivers their new baby! She attributes her desire and motivation to be the best that she can as an RN, and furthermore, a more caring, loving person, to working in infertility. In her downtime, you may find Cynthia Netflix-binging, hanging out with friends and family or exploring new restaurants. She loves reading, journaling, and playing with her pets. A long walk or planning her next travel adventure is also at the top of the list for self-care and fun!
