BOYLSTON – Tahanto Regional High School boys track team senior captain Henry Lonstein, a three-sport athlete, who also captained his football and basketball teams, broke the school record in the 100-meter dash last Thursday afternoon in an 80-55 victory over Maynard.

Lonstein, who had been improving his time in the 100 with each meet this season, roared across the finish line in 11 seconds flat, establishing the new record.

“He (Lonstein) has been beating everybody in everything this year,” Stags co-coach Dan Ashman said. “In our three meets, he’s unbeaten in the 100 and 200 (meters). He has just been blowing everyone away.

“He has been on the team since the seventh-grade, and is quite the sprinter,” he said. “He’s just an incredible kid, too.

In addition to the 100 and 200 meters, Lonstein also competes in the long jump and triple jump, and has qualified for the District E Class Championships in all four events.

“Henry has been with the team for a long time and is one of our great leaders,” Tahanto co-coach Patrick Minihan said. “He is probably the best athlete on the team, and is a great mentor to the younger kids.

“The record had been previously held by Josh Tedford and, by happenstance, Josh was there at the meet when Henry broke his record,” he said.  “He was there to congratulate Henry, and I thought that was a nice touch.”

Lonstein is heading to Gordon College in Wenham, where he will be a member of the Fighting Scots track and field team.
