Leigh Centurions and Leeds Rhinos reportedly set for huge player swap as Rohan Smith and Adrian Lam make Super League decisions

Leigh Centurions and Leeds Rhinos are reportedly set for a huge player swap.

Leeds head coach Rohan Smith and Leigh boss Adrian Lam have been tinkering with their squads for a number of months with the former trying to juggle with a tough salary cap situation at Headingley and the latter currently enjoying a spending spree under owner Derek Beaumont.

The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed earlier in the week that Tom Briscoe could be set to end his affiliation with Leeds after almost 200 games – with Leigh his reported destination.

Briscoe was a graduate of the Hull FC academy and went on to make his debut in 2008, before making almost 150 appearances in six seasons.

From there he joined Leeds where he has been ever since, becoming one of the most impressive wingers in Super League and setting the record for the amount of tries scored in a Challenge Cup Final in 2015 when the Rhinos hammered Hull KR with Briscoe scoring five tries.

Previously, Leeds head coach Smith admitted that Briscoe has not been offered a new contract: “I’m not sure whether Tom has made a decision or not,” Smith admitted.

“He hasn’t been offered a new deal at this stage, but it’s always a moving thing.”

The Rhinos are, however, primed to sign Leigh’s Nene MacDonald.

Leading rugby league agent Craig Harrison of Show Me The Money UK linking the hulking centre with the Rhinos, despite the fact that the centre was said to have signed a new deal at Leigh.

“I’m hearing that Leeds have got a bit of an interest in Nene MacDonald,” Harrison said on The Full Eighty Minutes podcast.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Rohan has got an interest.”

That set the ball rolling for Rugby League Live to then declare that there was a possibility for the signing to add to an already-burgeoning Centurions squad featuring the likes of Edwin Ipape, Blake Ferguson and Lachlan Lam.

And, with Bodene Thompson leaving Leeds, that overseas quota spot is ready to be used.
