CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — About 4 p.m. on Wednesday messages to Joplin News First let us know of a pair of military helicopters flying over the area.
More information revealed they were U.S. Marine CH-53K Stallions, the largest and heaviest helicopters in the US Military.
We barely caught them on our camera flying near 20th and S Main in Joplin. We tracked them on Flight Aware App to the Joplin Regional Airport.
“TheSikorsky CH-53K King Stallion(Sikorsky S-95) is a heavy-liftcargo helicopter designed and produced by Sikorsky Aircraft. The King Stallion is an evolution of the long running CH-53 series of helicopters which have been in continuous service since 1966, and features three uprated 7,500 shp (5,590 kW) engines, new composite rotor blades, and a wider aircraft cabin than its predecessors.” — US MILITARY
Last week a Baxter Springs native, who is now a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, performed two sweeps over SE Kansas in a C-17. Click 👉🏼 here to see the amazing video.
And today private sources confirm a 2011 Carl Junction graduate was piloting one of these Stallions.
We believe there is no reason to be alarmed. Stay tuned as we continue to learn more. Scroll below and sign up for our JLNews email alerts so you don’t miss an article.
