About this ebook

Hugh

Having spent more than twenty years as an emergency medicine physician in war zones around the world, I barely have a home to speak of. A daughter I didn’t know about has died and left a child behind, so I must get to Gaynor Beach, California to claim my granddaughter. Her temporary guardian is the first man to spark my interest in a very long time, but it would be inappropriate for me to have a relationship with this much-younger man.

Oscar

Gutted by my best friend’s death, I take solace in the daughter she left in my guardianship. I’ll protect this precious baby with all I have, and no one is going to take her away from me—least of all the man who turns up on our doorstep claiming to be her grandfather. Despite the resemblance, I plan to keep him at arm’s length. I’m going to show him how capable I am. But I might also lose my heart in the process.

This is an 85k word, hurt/comfort, interracial, age-gap, MM romance novel with a moderate amount of angst.

I’ve loved every book I’ve ready by Gabbi Grey and Hugh is no exception. I think it’s a bit longer than the other books I’ve read by her so she really had time to explore the characters and the circumstances that brought them together. The cast of secondary characters includes a not-so-nice social worker named Anthony. I love it when a character finds redemption so I was very happy to learn that Anthony will get his own book in this series. I’m very much looking forward to reading it.

Hugh finds out he has a daughter when she dies and he has a granddaughter seven months old. Hugh finds out his daughter left his granddaughter care to her friend Oscar. When he meets Oscar he knows he's doing what best for his granddaughter but Hugh wants to be part of her life too. The more they're together the more they have feelings for each other but Oscar has a secret that might tear then apart. I really enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed this single dad book. It is so completely different from the general single dad books. This one was more centered about the care of Marilee, the child of Hugh his daughter who died and he did know existed. Oscar, the guardian, and Hugh seem to have insta attraction, but the have a slow bitn attraction and how the relation developed. However the timeframe of the whole story is a just a couple of weeks. I also found the plotline how CPS can have the best intentions, but still do the wrong thing a relevant one. For me Oscar felt like a demi sexual character and Hugh is a bi sexual man with a historically low sex drive. I appreciated the fairly low heat in this book, which makes sense with so much going on and establishing a relationship and a whole new life for both. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
