Vin Diesel is feeling very emotional before making Fast & Furious 10, which will be part of the franchise’s two-part finale. The first installment of Fast & Furious hit theaters in 2001, and although Diesel stepped away for the next two films, he has largely been the face and on and off-screen driving force of the Fast & Furious franchise. Since the star’s fully-fledged return as Dominic Toretto in 2009, Diesel’s helped take the franchise from a street-racing centric tale to a global action extravaganza that’s thrilled fans with absurd stunts, fun new characters, and the ever-present theme of family. Now, Fast & Furious sits as an over $6 billion franchise.

Diesel and co. are coming off the hugely successful F9, which finally hit theaters this past June after being delayed because of the global pandemic. F9 has proven to be one of the real success stories of the COVID-19 affected releases, as the film recently set yet another milestone by grossing over $700 million worldwide, more than any other major release since the pandemic began. Also, the latest film sets up plenty of possibilities for the franchise’s final acts in Fast & Furious 10 & 11, which Diesel announced will be filming back to back in January of next year. However, as filming for the final chapters in the Fast saga nears closer, Diesel is becoming quite emotional.

On his Instagram, Diesel shared an image of his son’s new hairstyle, which shows off an “FX” that’s shaved into the side, symbolizing the impending arrival of Fast 10. In the caption, the actor, as he often does, expressed his emotions freely by writing the “excitement is real… the emotions strong.” He continued to write that 10 is a “divine number” and “the completion of a cycle” before going onto praise Universal, the team, and all of the fans. Full post can be seen below:

Justifiably, Diesel is flooded with emotions as he looks ahead to filming the final chapter in what he has called a multi-generational saga. Not only has Fast & Furious been a huge part of the actor’s life and career, particularly this last decade, but add in the emotions of continuing to build the franchise while losing Paul Walker in 2013, and it’s very easy to understand why the star will be filled with such emotion. In addition to this, Diesel’s photo of his son showing off the “FX,which is perhaps an early hint at a title, symbolically ties in the ever-present family theme that the star has drilled into Fast & Furious since his return. The post is also likely hinting at a very emotional two-part finale for fans, with the Fast & Furious 10 releasing in April 2023.

Fans will certainly be curious to see how the saga will conclude. F9 delivered some of the most bombastic stunts in the franchise’s history, and with the next two films being their last, Justin Lin and co. will surely look to raise the already high-bar for action set-pieces. Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs will not be returning for the final two films, but after the post-credit scene in F9, Jason Statham may be making a return. Lin has even teased that Walker’s Brian O’Conner may make an appearance in the final two films, which would no doubt up the emotion of Fast’s two-part finale. Time will tell what Fast & Furious 10 brings, but clearly, Diesel is excited for this emotional journey to begin in January.
