Keep control of your money with the Releases report

The Releases report is a tool that you can use to keep track of the money to be transferred to your bank account.

When you create an account in Mercado Libre, you can access several reports that allow you to reconcile or cross-reference your accounting records with the money movements in your Mercado Pago account and with the charges we bill you for working with us.

To check the detail of your movements, such as payments, and transfers, you can use one report:

  • Releases: ideal to keep track of the money that has been released in your account and that is available to be transferred. It allows you to compare, for example, the released money with the money you got from the payments you received.

Let's see in detail how you can keep track of your money to be transferred with the Releases report:

1. Generate your Releases reports

Follow these steps to generate your Releases reports from your Mercado Pago dashboard:

  1. Go to Reports and select the option Reports
  2. Select Releases.
  3. Choose a date range to check the movements and click on Generate

Generating the report takes a few minutes depending on how much information needs to be processed. It will not always be ready immediately and, until then, you will see the status "In preparation" on the screen. Once available, you will find it on your reports box and can always download it as follows:

  • From your Mercado Pago account, in the Reports section.

2. Get to know the format of the Releases report

Once you have downloaded your report, there will be a spreadsheet with all the information about your movements and other details such as order IDs, item IDs, shipping costs, etc.

Here are the three key features you should keep in mind to make a proper reading of your Releases report:

1. Movements in chronological order

In this report, you can check the information about your movements in the order in which they have been made. It shows first the oldest movements and then, the most recent ones, taking into account the transaction date and time.
With such structure, it will be very easy for you to keep track of your money movements.

2. Basic information to reconcile

The information in the report is organized in columns and rows that allow you to easily identify your initial balance, the net amount debited and the net amount credited that allow you to calculate your balance, and the movements that took place during a specific period of time.

Each row of the report shows a transaction that you can identify by the transaction number in the Source_ID column. Once you have identified it, read column by column to check the related details and amounts.

These are the basic elements with which you can keep track of your money:

  • Initial_available_balance: this is the initial balance. You can find it in the first row of the file in the Gross amount column. It indicates the balance you had available on the initial date of the period you chose to reconcile.
  • Total: it is the difference between the total net amount credited and the total net amount debited.
  • Net_credit_amount: shows the net credited amounts, i.e., the amounts that have entered your account minus fees and discount coupons.
  • Net_debit_amount: shows the net debited amounts, i.e., the amounts that left your account minus and fees.
  • Record_type: indicates the type of record or movement. The amounts that can be shown in this field are: releases, initial balance and total.
  • Description: allows you to identify the name of the movements that have been recorded (payments, withholdings, etc.) in your account. For example, the money withdrawals or transfers are presented as "Payout", while all the mediations that arise when a complaint is initiated or resolved are shown as "Dispute".

You can use this glossary to learn about the description of other movements as well as the information of each column of the report.

3. Visualization of withheld money

If one of your clients reports a complaint due to a non-compliance or problem with the product you sold, we withhold your payment until the situation is resolved. The money withheld or blocked is shown in the Net_debit_amount field, while the money that is released or unblocked is displayed in the Net_credit_amount field. You can identify these movements by looking for the prefix "reserve_", as shown in the following image:
