HBO Max and Discovery+ will merge to new 'Max' streaming service on May 23

12 Apr 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

It's official. Warner Bros Discovery has confirmed that the new merged streaming service will simply be called Max. It will launch in the US on May 23. 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos will cost extra.

"Max is the one to watch", said Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav, and added that Max will have the largest TV library in the world, with more than 40 new titles or seasons per month.

On top of the content from HBO, Warner Bros and DC Studios, Max will offer content from HGTV, Food Network, Discovery Channel, TLC and ID. It will continue to produce original content, now branded "Max Originals".

- "HBO is not TV, HBO is HBO. It needs to stay that way, which is why we will privilege it in the product experience, and also not push it to the breaking point," said JB Perrette, President & CEO of Global Streaming, WBD.
