A workshop devoted to free-motion quilting and collage

Using stitch in artwork begins with an expressive line. In this free-motion quilting workshop students learn to think in thread by translating visual stimuli into pathways. Experiment with stitched pattern to create new textures. Play with composition strategies to guide the viewer through the work. Learn to let go of expectations because sometimes what looks like a mess is actually a starting point for something new.

The first days will focus on simple-to-learn techniques to fill and grow a composition built on linework. Then, throwing caution to the wind, students will cut up quilted pieces to create expressive, textural collages.
