Job summary

In this role, you will have the opportunity to personally make a difference to our patients lives and the lives of their carers and relatives every single day. Our Healthcare Assistants work at the heart of our multidisciplinary teams who support our patients by assisting the Registered Nurses in planning, delivering and evaluating care. This will require you: to be able to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals, both verbally and in writing; to share our commitment to maintaining high standards in everything we do; and to demonstrate that you can work effectively within a team that behaves in accordance with our values.

The roles are varied and busy as you will be working a variety of shifts including long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. We will support you to achieve full training for your core duties including achievement of a national Care Certificate, and we will support your continued development.

To be eligible to work as a Trainee Healthcare Assistant, we expect that you hold a BTEC Level 3 in a Health-related subject or equivalent qualification, e.g. Access, 'A' Level etc and Level 1 in Functional Skills/Key Skills in Numeracy and English.

Main duties of the job

You will need previous experience in a health care setting. It is essential that within your application you are able to demonstrate an understanding of the role and responsibilities, able to prove how you develop and maintain working relationships along with basic understanding of the needs of the patient. Please refer to the person specification included in the job description.

We are offering a guaranteed interview to any student at an education provider within the immediate geographic footprint of the Trust, who has their Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English and has either just completed, or is predicted to achieve this summer, their BTEC level 3 in Health and Social Care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • At the direction of the Registered Nurse, participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care, using a wide range of clinical skills.
  • Participate in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in all aspects of personnel hygiene and toileting needs of patients.
  • Assist with the service of meals and the feeding of patients as needed.
  • Assist with the safe moving, handling and mobilisation of patients.
  • Involve patients and carers/relatives in delivery of patient care.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients, carers/family.
  • Preserve clients privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Following appropriate training and education, supervision and completion of competencies. Monitor patients vital signs, including immediate post operative, during blood transfusion and the monitoring of blood glucose levels.
