Cops looking for suspect who blew up JB restaurant


JOHOR BARU: Police are looking for a man to aid investigations into an explosion that occurred at a restaurant in Jalan Abdul Samad here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said police received a report over a video posted on social media showing a man throwing an object into the restaurant.

"There were two videos, each one minute long, showing him coming out of a vehicle and throwing an object into the restaurant.

"A police report had also been lodged by the 35-year-old owner of the premises," he said in a statement here on Monday (May 15).

"Based on CCTV footage, a vehicle stopped in front of the premises at 4.15am on Saturday (May 13), and a man was seen coming out of the vehicle.

"The explosion broke four windows, and no casualties or injuries were reported," he said, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire, which carries a maximum of 14 years' jail, or a fine, if found guilty.
