Production and Management encompasses research related to the management and production of various livestock and poultry species, including but not limited to growth and efficiency, health, reproduction, and maternal/paternal and offspring performance.
Nutrition includes studies on the dietary needs of domestic animals, including the impact of different nutrients and energy, feed ingredients and additives on animal performance, health, and nutrient utilization.
Forages and Feeds focuses on research related to the selection, production, management, and utilization of forages and other feed sources, including the impact of different feed sources on animal performance and health.
Genetics and Breeding is comprised of applied studies on animal genetics and breeding, including the development of genomic selection tools and identification of genetic markers for economically important traits.
Health includes research and findings on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various diseases, disorders, and health conditions.
Physiology involves studies on the structure and function underlying animal growth and development, metabolism, immunology, and reproduction.
Sustainability and Integrated Systems focuses on research related to the sustainable management of animal production systems, including holistic integrated strategies to reduce environmental impacts and enhance animal welfare.
Welfare and Behavior includes studies on the behavior and well-being of livestock, including the impact of management practices, systems, and housing on animal welfare and behavior.
Extension and Teaching encompasses research related to the development and implementation of educational programs and outreach initiatives aimed at improving animal production and management practices.
Food Science includes research on the production, processing, quality, and safety of animal-derived food products, including meat, milk, and eggs.
Determine Your Article Type
When submitting to AAS, authors should identify their submissions as one of these article types.
Original Research articles report and interpret unpublished research with animals or plants grown for feed and forage for livestock, economic analyses, research station or field studies, scientific literature-based meta-analyses, or a combination thereof. The majority of articles in AAS are original research articles.
Reviews and Invited Reviews integrate information and provide well-founded recommendations from research for application in animal agriculture. Evaluation, insight, and critique of the current knowledge in the area and proposed future needs for research and application are expected. Authors can contact the editor-in-chief or an associate editor to write a review. Editors also will invite reviews.
Short Communications report results and interpretations of relatively limited or narrowly focused research that is properly designed and analyzed to provide well-substantiated results. They may be case studies that provide new, novel, or unique information.
Technical Notes describe well-designed research of novel (or the improvement of existing) methods or processes in the laboratory, field, or system.
Perspectives and Commentaries provide a forum for authors to address important topics in the animal sciences related to industry opportunities, issues, practices, and applications or those related to research investigation and applications. The editor-in-chief may invite commentaries from experts in the field in response to articles published in AAS, or articles with perspective and commentary may be submitted for review without invitation.
Letters to the Editor may be submitted by anyone with comments or questions about articles published in AAS, or any aspect of animal science and production. Letters will be reviewed by the editor-in-chief and opportunity will be given to authors of the original article to respond to the letter in the same or next issue of the journal.
Articles from symposia and conference presentations are invited. Contact the editor-in-chief before submitting these manuscripts. The meeting organizer may serve as guest editor. Articles may be of any article type, and published in a regular issue, or in a completely separate issue as a set.
