Managing receipts
At the end of a sales transaction, you can offer to print, email, or text the customer's receipt. You can also print a gift receipt, which is proof of purchase but doesn't contain the amount spent.
If the email account that your customer uses to check out is the same email that they use for their Shop account, then their receipt automatically displays in their Shop app.
If a customer loses their receipt, then you can reprint it for them.
Order numbers and receipt numbers aren't the same, and receipt numbers include the POS register ID as a prefix. For example, order number #1425 in the Orders list might have the associated receipt number of #1-1288. However, you can still search by receipt number in your Orders list. The Payment successful screen displays after you've taken payment for an order. From the Payment successful screen, you have a few options:
| To print a receipt: | Tap Print receipt. |
| To send an email receipt to the customer: | Tap Email receipt to enter an email address, and then tap Send. |
| To send a text receipt: | Tap Text to enter a phone number, including the area code, and then tap Send receipt. |
| To print a gift receipt: | Tap Gift receipt. |

Limitations for managing receipts on Shopify POS
Review the following limitations for managing receipts with Shopify POS:
- Gift receipts are for full orders only. To print a gift receipt for a specific item, create a separate order for that item.
- When a customer purchases a gift card, the gift card QR code automatically prints on a separate receipt. You can't deactivate this behavior.
Limitations for managing receipts on Shopify POS
- Printed receipts display a maximum of 50 line items. For orders with more than 50 items, only the first 50 items display on the receipt. The receipt subtotal also reflects only the first 50 items, but the order total and taxes are correct. To send a complete receipt, use email or SMS instead.

Customizing printed receipts
Depending on your Shopify POS subscription, you can customize your printed receipts using the POS editor. For locations that subscribe to POS Pro, you can add elements such as logos, display fields such as SKUs and discount codes, and select the type of barcode that you want to display at the bottom of the receipt. For locations that don't subscribe to POS Pro, you can add a custom message in the header and footer of your printed receipts.
