After dnf-ing two books, this was JUST what I needed - wow!!
I was turning the pages for both the plot and romance! I do feel like a little more foreshadowing could have been done for who the vigilante was, but I also had a feeling it would be who it was.
Jumping right into book 2 - I already downloaded it from KU!

Secret Vendetta by Kathy Lockheart is the First book in the Vendetta Duet. This starts the story of Hunter Lockwood and Luna Payne. Luna is a criminal lawyer who seeks to free her father from prison for a crime he didn't do. Hunter is a prosecutor who is looking for his father's killer. These two meet when they have a court case together which Luna ends up winning. But her high from winning doesn't last long when her client is killed by the Windy City vigilante. Luna was a witness and now a target. Hunter felt a instant connection to Luna and has gone into protective mode towards her. This book does end with a cliffhanger.

ARC BOOK REVIEW
Secret Vendetta is the first book of The Vendetta Duet and is a muliple pov, first person book. We get the perspective of Hunter, Luna, and The Vigilante (I loved those chapters)
What a book this was. There was so much crime and murder, it was perfect. Luna is a public defender who witnesses her client get killed by The Vigilante just after she wins the trial. There, Luna also meets Hunter, who is a prosecutor on that same case, and he is instantly obsessed you could say with her. Also turns out that Hunter is Luna's landlord as she lives on a piece of land that he owns.
All Hunter wants to do is keep Luna safe and she refuses time after time and keeps getting herself in danger, finally Hunter manages to convince Luna to move in with him and things start to heat up between them.
I absolutely love books like this. We have the romance aspect and also a heavy amount of crime. In the book, The Vigilante also takes Luna into his protection in a way and is constantly protecting her and killing guys right in front of her, love that.
I had my theories about who was The Vigilante from the start and as the book progresses your mind changes with its theories and I'm glad that I noticed all the slight indications that proved this certain person was The Vigilante. Secret Vendetta ends on a cliffhanger where Luna finds out the true identity of The Vigilante, and I can't wait to see what this duet has in store throughout the second book.
I just love the characters so much, and this is definitely a contender for one of my favourite duets so far this year!

This story starts of strong and ends even stronger. Luna is a criminal lawyer and Hunter is a prosecutor. And the first time they meet, not only sparks fly, but fireworks fly. Their pull towards each other was undeniable and I just knew that they wouldn’t be able to stay away from each other. What I found admirable in this story is how both characters fight for justice for their fathers. Luna is desperately trying to get her dad out of prison for a murder she believes he did not commit. And Hunter is trying to find the killer of his dad. Than there is the thing about who the Vigilante is. A killer in the city who takes out bad guys. You will keep guessing who it is. This story had so many twists and turns that you will be amazed like I was.

let’s get into this book!
easily one of my favorites for the entire year! easily. if i could rate it 10/5 stars, i would.
so this is a duet book series, with Secret Vendetta being the first, and Silent Vendetta being the second… anyone who really knows me, knows i’m obsessed with true crime, famous serial killers/crimes, etc. like literally DEEPLY invested. BUT i’m also a true hopeless romantic when it comes to books, and love almost any version of a romance book. and here we have quite literally the perfect storm. i could SCREAM!
so in book one, we have Hunter, Luna, and this Vigilante with a hidden identity. we get the build up and backstories in this book that really makes us latch on and tune in page after page… i could not put this down at all; i was racking my BRAIN trying to figure out who the Vigilante was. and as soon as i thought i had it, some else would happen and throw me off course. i’ll just say this- you’ll be shook.
but fast forward- we get left on a cliffhanger in book one. it was a good 30 seconds in between, before i was trying to race through book 2. because everything was happening and i needed to know WHAT was going on. book 2 was chaotic in the absolute best way. and then ended with literally what i imagined to be a “wink.” omggggggg.
so without giving the whole plot away- between these two books, we’ve got murders (a LOT), romance/spice, hidden identities, forced proximities, kidnappings, parents being questionably imprisoned, an unhinged vigilante tearing the city UP. it’s like criminal minds, batman, love jones, and an edgar allan poe poem wrapped into one! this book is going to stick with me for a VERY long time.

Hunter works as a prosecutor incarcerating criminals as a form of atonement for failing to stop and then punish his father's killer, whilst Luna works as a public defender doing the exact opposite on account of her father being sent to jail for life for a crime she believes he's innocent of, two individuals polar opposite In backgrounds but so much in common.
After a case where Luna manages to get her friend a not guilty verdict against Hunters prosecution she believes she's done the right thing. When her friend is then murdered outside the courthouse by the windy city Vigalante a masked killer currently operating in the city and targeting those he believes have escaped justice, Luna is the only witness and she unexpectedly interrupts his latest kill. When the victims cousin then believes Luna has a piece of evidence that could put him away it's paints a target on her back.
Now Luna is trying to work on her father's case, trying to get him an appeal whilst she's also still in danger from Franco. She has also developed a stalker in the Vigalante who now sees it has his responsibility to protect her from her enemies. Then there's Hunter the handsome prosecutor who's also Luna's landlord and she's growing closer to him every day.
This was a good read it was well written and action packed throughout. The chemistry between Luna and Hunter was spot on and sizzled with intensity. It was very obvious who the vigilante was but It didnt effect my enjoyment and I was cheering him on from the sidelines.
I do believe Luna has a very simplictic and naive outlook and seems to be rather judgemental in regards to the Vigilantes crimes especially when he keeps saving her she also has very little self-preservation when it comes to her safety. I'm hoping that in the conclusion she opens her outlook and doesn't focus on her trust being broken. It's a small thing in the grand scheme of things like her life being saved multiple times.

Luna is a lawyer that is desperately trying to help her father. Luna has had things pretty tough and although she is a fighter it doesn't seem like it's going to get any easier for her.
Hunter is a hot lawyer on the opposite side but he has also been through so much. All he wants to do is keep Luna safe but she keeps repeatedly putting herself in danger.
The Vigilante wants people to pay for the crimes they have truly committed and makes sure they do no matter what.
This book is packed full of crimes and violence and will have you guessing who the vigilante is right the way through.
I love how this author writes and I loved Hunter. Luna grated on me a tad because she's smart but sometimes didn't act it. These two characters are opposites in alot of ways but they have a very strong connection and Hunter is very protective and a tad possessive and will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. This book will keep you guessing and the twists are awesome.

SO GOOD OMG. Once I stared reading i couldn't stop, the characters and story drew me in and didn't let go.
Sooo I took a wild guess before even opening on the book about who the Vigilante was and I was right, so I wasn't shocked when it was finally shown in the book. What shocked me was that ending. Bc now I literally have no idea whats gonna happen next 😭
Now Luna is a fighter. Even though she knew how much danger she was in she didn't let that slow her down. Hunter was so dreamy. That man was so in love with Luna it was adorable to watch. I felt like they had really good chemistry from the very beginning.
This book wasn't filled with spicy scenes but we did get a little bit of it to keep us wanting more. There was a lot of action and crime in this one that there was not one moment where I was bored. The entire book i was at the edge of my seat waiting to see what was gonna happen next. All Luna wants is to free her dad from jail and all Hunter wants is to keep Luna safe.
I need to go reas the second book asap bc I have a feeling Hunter, Luna and the Vigilante are gonna put me through it in the next book.

The first book in a thrilling new duet from Kathy Lockheart and Secret Vendetta had me engrossed from the opening pages. Both the hero and heroine are likeable, well-rounded characters who despite their mutual attraction, are complete opposites, Luna is a public defender, burdened with student loans and a father incarcerated for murder who she believes is innocent while billionaire Hunter is a district attorney whose father’s murder remains unsolved. On paper they shouldn’t work but somehow, they do even though both have abandonment issues and are wary of being hurt. There is some tension between them as the overprotective Hunter steps in to protect the independent Luna which she finds suffocating and to add to the turmoil, Luna finds herself strangely drawn to the vigilante who has declared himself her protecter. This is how romantic suspense should be with both elements perfectly balanced. I loved that clues to the identity of the masked vigilante are there but with enough doubts cast that I was like the heroine Luna and ended up suspecting every man she came into contact with. Told from dual points of view and with a steady flow to the writing, the tension builds throughout with plenty of twists and turns to the story as the danger against the heroine escalates especially when another threat emerges before culminating in a shocking cliffhanger.

Wow!! What a ride! This is told through a three peoples point of view. Our MFC Luna is a defense attorney. She is getting threats from a mob family who thinks she did them wrong as well as people who are upset she is looking into the crime her father was wrongly charged with. Hunter is an ADA prosecutor and her new boyfriend, who is trying to find out who murdered his dad when he was young. These two start out with a professional relationship that grows into an amazing love story.
Then there is the Windy City Vigilante who seems to always be there right when Luna needs them. Who could it be? Luna needs to solve her father’s case along with who is this masked vigilante who seems to be willing to burn the world for her and kill anyone who does her wrong. This does end in a cliffhanger and you will need to read book two!

This was phenomenal! I loved how fierce and determined Luna was. Hunter has some secrets and when they come out…mind blown! Luna is a public defender and she fights for clients she firmly believes that are innocent. This stems from her dad being found guilty despite him being innocent. When she win a case over the district attorney, who happens to be Hunter. She catches his attention. She also catches the attention of the Windy City Vigilante when she stumbles across him killing her client. Hunter and Luna have this intense instant attraction. And Hunter feels a connection to Luna that he has never felt before. It is not long before these two are in love. But what happens when dark secrets come out?

What. A. Read! Absolutely loved this one, although I caught on pretty quick. If you love a good plot twist then this is for you.
Luna is a public defense attorney hellbent on cracking her father’s case and setting an innocent man free. Hunter is a prosecutor hellbent on protecting her after she witnesses her client’s death and is accused of having something against her client’s cousin. Secret Vendetta is the ultimate suspense read.
While holding my breath with anticipation, I was melting for Hunter.
Luna is doing everything she can to be able to prove her father is innocent of murder.
She finds herself face to face with the vigilante that has been allusive to authorities for some time, and then on top of that, her friend just got murdered and she has her life threatened all in a very short time span.
To make matters worse, her growing crush inserts himself into the situation to help and protect her.
I was speechless. This is my first book by Kathy Lockheart, and I was hooked. Hunter and Luna kept me there until the last word. The suspense. The connection and the steaming heat between them were just that good. Luna is such a strong character, and I loved her. But Hunter is a contradiction of everything.
I absolutely loved the first part of this duet, and I'm definitely excited to get started on Silent Vendetta.

This book is beyond addictive. Kathy’s storytelling will grab your attention and keep you on the edge of your seat and second-guessing until the heart stopping cliffhanger ending. So thankful the second book in the duet is already loaded on my kindle ready for me to dive in again.
The mystery surrounding the vigilante is incredibly suspenseful. The clues will have you flip flopping on who he might be.

It’s giving thriller romance movie!
I could literally see this book coming to life. Kathy is a brilliant writer and had me guessing until the big twist was revealed. LOVED THIS.
Luna, little leopard is my kind of girl. Is she a little dumb? Yeah… but only common sense wise. And like, who hasn’t been dumb before? LMAO.
Hunter is a zaddy who makes me melt. He’s got a little bit of an edge and is a bit commanding. Literally… who doesn’t love that. Anyways..

Kathy Lockheart delivers a dark and twisty story that will pull you in from the very first page and hold you captive right up until the very last. Instantly, I was swept away into Luna and Hunter’s sinfully seductive and suspenseful saga, leaving me craving more.

While getting death threats on a case reopened for her innocent father, lawyer Luna, is also trying to figure out who the Windy City Vigilante is. He seems to have taken a liking to her and she is the only one who has seen him and lived to tell anyone. Although the vigilante is not out to kill her, or it seems, she’s also trying to get out from under the thumb of her last clients mob family. Her now dead client told the mob boss he gave her a USB drive and he’s out to get it from her.
Not only is she trying to dodge the vigilante and this mob family, but the men giving her threats for reopening her dads case. But at every turn there stands the vigilante. Is it her friend Sean or maybe her new boyfriend Hunter? Or is it her dads jailhouse friend that just got released?
Who knows…you need to read it to find out.

As always Kathy’s writing truly amazes me. From page one till the last word this book holds your attention. Hunter and Luna’s chemistry is fantastic to read. There are twists that you won’t see coming. The storyline is definitely a unique one that is true to any of Kathy Lockhart’s work. This book does end on a big cliff hanger but thankfully book two will be out at the same time to read. Absolutely a FIVE star read!

Secret Vendetta by Kathy Lockheart, is the first book of the Vendetta Duet, we begin by meeting Luna Payne, who is a lawyer who works as a public defender, she is determined to defend those who do not have the means to fight against a powerful system and ensure that the same thing that happened to her father, who had been unjustly convicted of a murder he did not commit, would not happen to them, is precisely where we find her the first time, awaiting the outcome of a trial where her childhood friend faces murder charges, against a powerful, handsome Prosecutor, who has lost very few cases. Hunter Lockwood, is a brilliant man, a millionaire, powerful and a force in the court, he works as a Prosecutor and his goal is justice, when he faces Luna in court he is surprised by her passion and ethics, when the trial ends there is a touch of curiosity towards her. Luna receives a call and goes to her car when she stumbles upon a body and in front of it the Vigilante of the Windy City, and although she presumes that he is going to attacked her, he simply disappears, she must go to the hospital and who ends up helping her at this moment of shock is Hunter, when events begin to unfold, Luna's life is threatened on more than one occasion, this leads Hunter to do what is necessary to protect her, they have wounds from their childhood that make them feel related, and although she does not belong to his status and although he tries to stay away from her it's impossible to fight what he feels and when they both allow themselves experiences what they feel they unquestionably end up in a relationship. But nothing will prepare them for what is to come. Hunter keeps a big secret and Luna will never imagine who is hiding behind the Vigilante's mask.
This story trapped me from its first pages. With a combination of suspense, drama, action and some completely unexpected twists (my money was on someone else as a possible vigilante) you won't be able to stop reading it, with an ending that will leave you on the edge of your seat. I'm completely captured by this story. Highly recommended!

This book was GOOD. The action, the twists, the turns, the hints, the constant questioning of EVERYONE. I was hooked from the bat.
First, the characters are pretty good. I love that the FMC is a take no shit spitfire of a woman. She is fierce and loyal. Our MMC is possessive and protective, traits we all love. And our vigilante? I did not expect to get his pov but LOVED IT.
I was constantly trying to figure out what was happening and what would happen next. I feel like we were lead in multiple different obvious ways. But then not. But then yes.
The spice was delicious. We love a MMC who loves to please, and is a take charge kinda man.
The book ends on a cliffhanger with us finding out who the vigilante is. I will say, my first thought was correct. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, and I'm super pumped part two of this duet is already out so I can dive right in!

This book was full of firsts!
The first book of this duet and it’s off to a great start!
My first book by this new to me author and I’m a fan!
First of all it’s brilliant that both books of this duet were published together. The details and the grand finale of book 1 are still fresh in time to jump into book 2.
Told in multiple POV, I really enjoyed how the characters developed. I was easily sweated into the story of intriguing romance with a suspenseful crime mystery!
Well paced, and intense, I couldn’t put this book down trying yo discover the direction of this story and the whodunnit factor.
Then a cliffhanger that was jaw dropping!
Book 2 here I come!

Kathy Lockheart has done it again. In this first book of the duet, readers are brought into Luna's dangerous world, where it seems that everyone is after her. She has Hunter, who will do anything to protect her, and the stranger, The Vigilante, who has unalived many people but seems to be protecting Luna.
Readers are in for a treat with this one, trying to figure out who The Vigilante is (it is revealed at the end of the book), but also trying to figure out who else is after Luna. I have a couple of guesses at who some of the mysterious players are in this deadly hunt, but only book two will reveal the answers.
If you're looking for a book that has danger, spicy, and morally gray areas of knowing something is wrong but struggling to fight against it, this is the book for you. Kathy Lockheart is a master at her craft, and she never disappoints.
