2/28: BUSSW Off-Campus & Hybrid Programs Host Virtual Child Welfare Workshop Led by Prof. Azzi-Lessing

The Off-Campus & Hybrid Programs at Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) are hosting a free virtual workshop led by Prof. Lenette Azzi-Lessing about transforming our response to the needs of vulnerable children and their families.

Her presentation, titled “Building Justice-Based Systems for Child and Family Well-Being,” will explore strategies for preventing unnecessary trauma and promoting child and family well-being at the practice, program, and policy levels.

As a part of the BUSSW Off-Campus & Hybrid Programs’ Spring Specialization Series – four workshops highlighting the School’s four MSW specializations and off-campus program sites – participants will also learn about the Worcester Hybrid MSW Program and the Children, Youth, and Families Specialization.

About the Presenter:

Lenette Azzi-Lessing, PhD, is a clinical professor, chair of the Macro Social Work Department, and coordinator of the Children, Youth, and Families Specialization at BUSSW. She has more than 25 years of experience as a social worker, agency leader, and policy advocate. Her work focuses on improving the well-being of vulnerable young children and their families, particularly those living in poverty or involved with the child welfare system. She is the co-leader of the Partnership to Prevent Violence Against Young Children in South Africa, a senior fellow and national race equity scholar at the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA), and a founding member of CWLA’s National Racial Equity Committee. She is the author of Behind from the Start: How America’s War on the Poor is Harming Our Most Vulnerable Children
