Bayspace, a major new co-working and events space overlooking St Ives Harbour, has opened its doors to members and the wider community.
The ambitious project has completely transformed a previously disused Grade II listed building in the heart of the town; the local landmark on Fernlea Terrace is just moments from St Ives’ bus and train stations, and now also has bike and board storage to encourage sustainable commutes.
Awaiting members behind the carefully restored façade are four floors of resident desks, hot desks, quiet call booths, a variety of bookable meeting and event spaces, a café, catering facilities, and a terrace – all with views overlooking the harbour.
Following a visit to Bayspace this week, St Ives MP Derek Thomas commented: “Having kept in close contact with the dedicated team behind this project over several years, I’m acutely aware of the incredible journey they’ve been on.
“Securing Government funding was only the beginning and today, to see an important St Ives building given a new lease of life, is a genuine privilege. More importantly, the town now has a modern co-working space in which local people can start and grow their businesses.”
St Ives Workstation, the Community Interest Company behind the project, has a long-term strategy for Bayspace which hinges on creating a wealth of new opportunities for individuals, businesses, and local groups, and nurturing “a positive, dynamic and supportive community of forward-thinkers”.
Chairman, Larry Magor, said: “The vision is for Bayspace to become a catalyst for sustainable growth for the whole area, providing one of the most precious resources for coastal communities in tourist hot-spots – space itself. Building future resilience is also vital, and Bayspace will support the creation of year-round jobs across a diverse range of sectors.”
